Poor kid. And why we should have hate crime laws. Yes, there are assault laws in general, but the viciousness of these hate attacks (gay, racial, nationality, whatever) increases because bigotry is at the root. I actually live in the Portage area, and the place where he got beat up has a reputation for that kind of thing. It's horrible that it happened, but maybe having the spotlight on that area will help prevent other teens from being attacked. I hope he and his family are as well as they can be and that perhaps
Portage authorities will do more to prevent this kind of brutality.
