Originally, it was Julia Roberts that Disney wanted for the flick The Proposal. However, Julia refused to lower her salary, so the studio was forced to let her go in favor of another star, Sandra Bullock, according to Us Weekly.
It's a tough break for Julia, considering we can't remember the last good movie she was in and The Proposal raked in a whooping $151 million at the box office!
Perhaps it's time to lower your prices Julia, otherwise more people are gonna stop buying what you're selling! Think about it!

I've always found Sandra Bullock to be much more appealing than Roberts. Roberts needs to realize her days of 20 million dollar paychecks are coming to an end.

julia has cut her salary several times even in her heydays: for duplicity she passed from 20 to 1 million dollar. she also had her paycheck cut for ocean's 11, ocean's 12 and the small budget film fireflies in the garden.
probably, now that she does only one moviwe per year, her priority is quality: charlie wilson's war and duplicity may not be blockbusters but they earmn julia some of the best reviews of her career (and a golden globe nod for cww).
bolluck on the other way still does at 45 the kind of movies she did at 28…it's a bit sad. as much as i like sandra, you can't even compare the two. julia wins by miles under in all way: more awards, more world-wide fame, highest lifetime b.o. grossing, better directors in her resumè…

Why would Roberts think anybody was willing to pay for her? She has been out of the limelight forever, her last good movie was something like 6 years ago, and frankly Bullock comes across sweeter onscreen.

I'm not surprised. Sandra Bullock is a far better choice. For years Julia Roberts has been overpaid and over-hyped for a mediocre talent. Sandra is much more likeable.
I used to like J.R. but that happened at the 80´s, now when i saw duplicity i slept at the begining of the movie, Im glad she didnt accept to make the proposal, the perfect actress for that rol is Sandra Bullock, she is so down to earth, she is georgeossssss and has that "something" that catch everybody´s attention. This was a fantastic movie and I couldnt see anyone doing a better job then Sandra! She rocked it! Ps, Ryan is the hottest man on earth!

I don't know why everyone goes so crazy over Julia Roberts. I saw Pretty Woman, like every other human being, and besides the fact that she was very beautiful, she wasn't an incredibly good actress. Actually, the movie just wasn't that great of a movie. Kinda lame.
Sandra Bullock is cute. She's a good pick for that role. Although, I'll never see the movie because it too looks like it sucks.
I like both actresses really, but I can't see them as comparable. I used to think Julia was my fav. especially right around Erin Brockovich, her BEST movie, besides Pretty Woman or course. But Sandra has something about her that you just can't stop looking at her. She is such a great actress. "Proposal" was my favorite from the summer. Never really cared of Sandra before, now I'm going to see her next pix no matter what. That Reynolds kid was O.K. too.
Sandra Bullock was perfect for the role, anyway, especially with Ryan Reynolds…Julia's not that funny!!

well, the proposal did very well and i fully give sandra credit for it. but before that? since two weeks notice bullock has had a strings of criticalò/box office bombs.
julia on the other hand reached absurd level of success in her 20/30 with commercial movies (and also her rom coms were better than sandra's ones: pretty woman or miss congeniality? notting hill or while you were sleeping? pleaseeee) and then she decided not to play roles written for 28 years old women.
sandra and jennifer aniston appearently will play "girls" even at 55…

Julie Roberts is and will always be one of the largest female actresses in Hollywood. She doesn't need to overload on movies she can really decide whether or not she wants to work. You also have to realize she has chosen to focus her attention to her family. when it comes down to it Julia has much more power than Sandra (even though I like her) and i don't think her turning this down is that big of a deal. ps. Erin Brokovich still gives me chills with her acting

Julia will ALWAYS be the biggest movie star out there.. BUT, I think Sandra was better casting for this movie. Although they are close in age, Julia seems to "mature" for this role and I would like to see her focus on more character driven roles like Meryl Streep.
