Michael Vick Apologizes!!
We hope this isn't a ploy to garner goodwill in the NFL!
Although he has made vague statements about being remorseful for his former dog-abusing ways, Michael Vick has released an official apology denouncing his previous behavior and his intentions to turn over a new leaf.
Here are some of the HIGHlights:

What I did was horrendous. Awful. Inhumane. And I've no excuses for my actions. It makes my heart hurt now to think about what I've done. And I'm gonna be real honest, it took a while for me to get to this place.On coming to grips with his former self:
I have been trying hard to connect with people who feel this pain,because for my whole life I was disconnected from the suffering of animals. And you might say, "come on Mike, how could you do those things to those dogs?" And you're right…I ask myself those questions every day. What kind of person does this? How does a human-being treat dogs or any animal with such pain and cruelty? And the hard part for me is the answer to these questions. Because the answer is ME. And I am trying so hard right now to become a better person, because who I was, I am ashamed of.On redemption:
Now that I'm trying my best to wake up, I know I have a lot of work to do. And this isn't about trying to win a Super Bowl ring or a MVP trophy…this is about trying to save lives. I think back to when I use to play football and of course I use to see all those kids in the stands wearing #7 jerseys. And I would never want them to look up to the Michael Vick who did all of those terrible things to the dogs. I know where I need to do the most work is with all of the people around the world who continue to fight dogs. Let me be straight forward with y'all: What I did was wrong, and what you're doing is wrong. We must stop dog fighting, and I will do everything in my power to be a voice of someone who has finally woken up from the numbness, and knows just how bad it really is. My mission now is to be a source of service to save many animals. I am working very closely with The Humane Society and will be launching a new campaign shortly. If I had one hope in life, it would be that my actions will speak louder than my words. I know it will be hard to forgive me until you see my sincerity through my actions, but I promise you and I promise myself that that day will come. Lastly, I accept this challenge, not of writing this blog, but of redeeming myself.

That "community service" should have been done after his jail sentence. Then and only then should he be forgiven if he is indeed remorseful.

…Did any of you know that dogs in this 'sport' that did not perform up to expectations were killed by electrocution, hanging, drowning and other violent means by the dogfighting ring? This went on for 6 years. Instead of playing for the Eagles, give him a minimum wage job at 'Pets R Us' under constant scrutiny.

Only a sick person would hurt an animal, and this man hurt many– in an effort to win bets on dog fights. The leading symptom of a serial killer– and other violent criminals– is abusing animals. This man should never be forgiven for what he has done. Moreover, this apology does not make me believe that Vick "woke up" to the fact that animals feel. It takes a sick, twisted man to faithfully abuse animals for his own gain, and I honestly don't believe that can ever go away.
I'm no longer an Eagles fan, after being one my whole life, but I can recognize one good thing that'll come out of Vick's stay in Philadelphia: hopefully, he'll pour some of his undeserved millions into the animal shelters in the area. Beyond that, though, the man is a disgusting human being, and I'll never have anything but contempt for him.

It's not a question of 'paying for his crime'. IMHO I think you have to have a really distorted values system in general to even think of doing what he did. He called it a 'bad choice' or 'bad decision'. No, a bad decision might be to let a friend talk you into a money scheme that you thought was OK but had some misgivings. To allow, even mastermind the torture and killing of domestic animals one has to have a warped set of values and I don't think jail changes that. It just makes you less likely to do it again so you don't go to jail again. I think he should enjoy all the benefits of freedom EXCEPT being a pro athlete now that he's done his time. Why does everyone think the NFL is someplace so special that he is "unworthy" to return to? Yeah - it's special because of how much it pays… but it's home to many, MANY sleezy, uneducated, crime-committing, ignorant, selfish people (who happen to be athletically gifted).
