Laramie Project Epilogue To Play In Over 100 Cities

Millions of people have viewed the story of Matthew Shepard through the groundbreaking and moving theatrical production, The Laramie Project.
Now, one of the most performed pieces in America will premiere an epilogue to the original piece in over 100 cities across the country, including Lincoln Center in NYC, premiering on October 12th.
The new addition to the heartbreaking tale of the murder of an innocent gay man will feature updated interviews with many of the Laramie residents from the original piece as well as Matthew's mother Judy Shepard and Mathew’s murderer Aaron McKinney, who’s continuing to serve two consecutive life sentences.
Along with the new epilogue, a new online interactive community has been set up where "participants can blog, upload video and photos and share their stories about the play, experiences in preparing and presenting the Epilogue in their communities. "
We urge everyone to be apart of this phenomenal national event and CLICK HERE to see where there'll be a performance in your area.

While his death was sad and all, I still don't get why Matthew Shepard has been practically deified by the gay community. Personally, I think that the cops who solved the case are the heroes.
I'm rather sickened that you'd put this on your site after spewing such filth from your mouth and trying to buy your way out of trouble by using Matthew's foundation as a way to do so. I know you're a narcissistic asshole, but come on, Mario, even you can get too insulting.
cant wait!!!
Re: farts happen still – so agree with you. But I am looking forward to this, because it also brings up the point that it may not have been a hate crime. I am gay and people get up on the bandwagon without even knowing the extent of the full story.
I also wonder has Perez even seen the first?
Heavy.
HA HA HA ISN'T THIS THE FOUNDATION WHO REJECTS YOUR BLOODY MONEY?….BOOM BOOM POW…..I DON'T DESERVED THIS…..
HOW DO I FIND THIS? Every website I checked failed to post actual event details. Is this in movie form? Can I order it?
The real killer of the Shepard tale was drugs and nobody recognizes that fact. Drugs and money were the driving force behind the crime and his homosexuality was a twisted coincidence. Not denying his place in the gay community as a sort of martyr but it should be ackowledged that drugs are bad.
They still don't want money from you.
This is good timing, because I just recently saw "The Laramie Project" for the first time a couple months back, and I was definitely moved by the subject matter and how it was portrayed. I like this idea; interested in how this "epilogue" will play out.

1. I DOUBT YOU ARE GAY.
2. NOT A HATE CRIME? HOW COULD IT NOT BE? MATTHEW WAS BAITED WHEN THEY KNEW HE WAS GAY, THEN BROUGHT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, BEATEN, LASHED TO A FENCE, BURNT WITH CIGARETTES, AND LEFT OUT IN THE ELEMENTS TO DIE. ARE YOU REALLY DEFENDING ANY OF THAT?

YOU ARE A MORON. THAT IS LIKE SAYING THAT EMMETT TILL SHOULD NOT BE THOUGHT OF AS A MARTYR.
I love him, hope he rest in peace
Re: stellagranos – I understand why the gay community has such respect for him, but I don't think that their reasoning stands up to scrutiny, especially if it's anything like yours. There's a HUGE difference between Emmett Till and Matthew Shepard. Emmett Till is a martyr precisely because those who killed him never served time for their crime, whereas Matthew Shepard's killers are serving consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole. Emmett Till brought worldwide attention to injustice that was going unpunished because of INSTITUTIONALIZED bigotry that was rampant throughout much of the country. Till's killers were UNREPENTANT in their reasons for beating him; Shepard's killers have wavered from claiming it was a robbery gone wrong to claiming that it was because they didn't like that he hit on them.
Re: stellagranos – Martyrdom implies that there was some sort of institutionalized injustice, so not only would persecution of the group be considered normal by laymen, but also by the legal system at various levels, whether de jure or de facto. In other words, you're comparing apples and oranges. Those who died as a result of police brutality in the Stonewall riots back in 1969 would be more appropriate martyrs of the gay community.
Mario you hypocrite - stop speaking for the gay community as you are the biggest disgrace.
Re: willowgirl –
He's not an "hero", he's a martyr.
sad story what happened to him. how's his family doing, that's what i want to know?
One of the most performed pieces? Really? Who are you now, Donald Trump? Vince McMahon? Hyperbole, much? I think it deserves accolades, but the facts remain that its subject, Matthew Shepard, has become an accidental cause celebre celeb. By the way, Mario, just because you like/love something doesn't make it the "biggest thing out there." Sellout…Boom boom POW!
Even though it has been 10 years since Matthew's murder, Congress still hasn't passed the Matthew Shepard Act. Two years ago, Sean William Kennedy was murdered by Stephen Moller and spent one year in prison (recently released - 3 year parole).
The story of Matthew Shepard needs to be told so incidents, like the above, with lenient sentences for murder (no matter your sexuality) are equal and we need a push to pass the Matthew Shepard Act, which the conservatives continue to block. If anyone is interested in the murder of Sean William Kennedy, do a google/youtube search and you will find more. Also, look up the murders of Michael Sandy and 15 year old Lawrence King. Politicians like Oklahoma's Sally Kern should be held responsible for all crimes against gays.
What about those that get beat up for their skin color? Religious beliefs? It happens just as often or even more often. Yet I never see Perez go on about that.
Remember folks, you aren't important according to Perez unless you are gay.
[re=4213321]Re: stellagranos 1. I DOUBT YOU ARE GAY.

They were talking about the REASONS. It wasn't because he was gay. It was over DRUGS. People get hurt EVERY DAY because they get in over their heads taking drugs. Seems that's what happened to old Matthew. It had little to do with im being gay. It never really did. They gays just grabbed it and went with it.
How do you people know it was all over drugs? Were you there? The 2 guys that did this to Matthew were the ones on drugs - and they lured Matthew to the bar by saying that one of them wanted to meet up with him - they posed as gay men to attack a gay man - that is a hate crime. Ask the locals in Laramie, they'll tell you!
Is this a gay site? reach arounds for all? This happend 12 years ago. I had a friend that worked at the Fireside in laramie and said that Matthew was an alcoholic wise ass who fucked with people constantly.
Now he by no means deserved any of what went down…
If he was black it would have been racial
If he was fat it would have been bullying
That fact is he spoke like an idiot to a bunch of hillbillys and they beat the shit out of him…it happens all of the time. If he wasn't gay nobody would have heard shit about this.
A friend of mine got beat at a bar and his head hit the curb and he died.
So was he targeted because he was bisexual? Nope…it was because he was mouthing off to the wrong people and it ended in him bleeding to death.
If gay people want to be equals then deal with the fact that people get picked on, beat up, burned, raped, bullied everyday regardless of their sex or race. And the predators are of all creeds, breeds, races and not just white trash racist drunks. I have seen plenty of gay people pounding the shit out of dumb straight people.
Fuck off
Perez - tell them the page for the locations is difficult to read - please, please tell them to re-do it with black lettering.
PEREZ PLEASE DONT ADVERTISE THINGS LIKE THIS. SOME IMPRESSIONABLE YOUNG PERSON COULD READ THIS AND THINK THAT THAT MATHEW SHEPARD WAS A HERO OR SOMETHING. IN FACT HE WAS A HOMOSEXUAL PERVERT AND DEVIANT. YOU DONT WANT TO GIVE INNOCENT KIDS THE IMPRESSION THAT IT IS SOMEHOW OK TO BE GAY
there is a really good lifetime movie about his story, which is why i'm sure a lot of people have heard his story not whatever this is. plus, if people watch the news or know anything about politics, they'd know about his story, judging by a few months ago there was hate crimes legislation that was introduced in his name and his mom lobbies congress as well
This is something that should never be forgotten. This story needs to be brought to light as much as possible to remind everyone of the results of senseless murders due to HOMOPHOBIC ASSHOLES. Support your local PFLAG chapter…
The murder of ALL victims is sad. Not just gay victims. Or child victims. Or female victims. Or pizza delivery people. Letter carriers. Native Americans…. ALL victims.
I'm in one of the performances.
So excited.
Re: Vexation – I didn't say that he was a hero; I meant that if anyone deserved recognition out of this, it was the cops who solved the case. And no, Matthew Shepard is NOT a martyr.
Re: Clodius – Couldn't agree with you more. Why is it any worse to murder a gay person compared to anyone else?
