Mad Men Makes Parents Mad!

We wouldn't deny anyone Don Draper!

Although Mad Men's ratings for its season 3 premiere on Sunday garnered big numbers, parents are concerned that the show's buzz may not be appropriate for their kiddies!

According to a complaint from the Parents Television Council, the show received a TV-14 rating when they felt it should be rated for mature audiences only.

Can't they turn the TV off?!

The show does tend to be racy, but nothing graphic!

Could the homophobes parents be in a tizzy because of a very gay kiss that occurred last season?!

Mad Men is like a Disney movie compared to those CW shows actually geared toward teens!

We know the show has a lot of sexual overtones, but how many kids are watching AMC?!

Why does it cause a ruckus when someone/something goes gay? Who gives a crap?

one man plugging another man will never be socially acceptable, especially on TV

    5. 5

what kid watches mad men? really? also, it had a warning at the beginning of the show.

    6. 6

Homophobes? I would hardly classify parents that don't want their young impressionable children watching 'a very gay kiss' as homophobes. As parents it is our job to monitor what our children see and and learn and yes, the simple solution would be to turn off the tv but I truly resent being called a homophobe if I choose to not let my kids watch a gay couple make out. The gay community preaches tolerance to the 'homophobes' but where is your tolerance of Christians that believe that marriage is meant for a man and a woman only??? We have the right to vote the way we see fit and believe as much as you do. Practice what you preach!

Believe it or not, no one wants to see two homos kissing. It's not sexy, its disgusting!

    8. 8

Are you kidding? They are getting mad at the gay kiss, and the last 2 episodes are all about guys grabbing girls butts, and sex with the secretary? give me a break! sure its a little risque at some points, but its fine for people over 14.

    9. 9

Perhaps these parents should stop relying on TV ratings and actually monitor what their kids are watching themselves.

    10. 10

oh boohooo go cry a river uptight bitches. its not like there was much to see there anyways.. i'm nt gay or anything but some people need to stop being so damn constipated about things

    11. 11

You are so right Perez! Shows on the CW and "reality" shows on MTV have plenty of sexual overtones yet I am sure there haven't been complaints. First, it is just a television show. Secondly, the hotel scene was very hot… I enjoyed it. Parents, worry about important things… like your children!

    12. 12

this show aint for the babies.

    13. 13

Im 15 & Ive Watched WAAAYYY Worse
Homophobes Need To Shut Up Your Kids Are DOING Way Worse Than What They Show

      =O =]

    14. 14

You're a sick, twisted maggot, Perez. The rating should be TV-MA at the very least!! I'm tempted to throw my TV right out the window! HELLYWOOD at it's peak!

    15. 15

Re: chelsoshea – Homophobe, why are you here if you are against gays!? Maybe gays get upset at us straight ppl kissing! Maybe gay ppl don't want their kids seeing straight people make out but they cannot do anything about it! Nor can you! Nothing says gay ppl cannot kiss on TV! I find it interesting ur on a site run by a gay man when you are clearly a homophobe. Maybe just wanna hate.

    16. 16

Re: htownboy – Guys doing girls is NATURAL. Guys doing guys goes against the laws of nature. Don't be an idiot!

    17. 17

Re: pisa77 – EXACTLY! Parents should be watching out for perversion such as Mad Men and protec their children.

    18. 18

Re: Mattlouis – The big fkn deal is that parents don't want their children influenced by the PERVERSION of this show, you perverted maggot!

    19. 19

      Lame. The PTC is lame.

    20. 20

Re: Sgirl – I don't mind to homos kissing.

    21. 21

There was a "mature audiences" warning re sex, language etc. in advance of the screening. And who lets kids watch Mad Men anyway? Most of them would be bored (moves too slow, no cool music, nobody except Sally and Bobby anywhere near their ages.)

    22. 22

That's what channel block is for when you the parent are not around!

    23. 23

Must be a slow day for the Parents Television Council - Don't we have bigger problems to worry about?

    24. 24

      Re: Marilyn Monroe
Perhaps you should go back and re-read my comment. I did not say that I had a problem with gay people. Obviously, if I did, I would not come to Perezhilton.com. What I have a problem with is being called a homophobe for not wanting my kids to see a gay couple kissing. They are young and learn quickly and seeing something like that would leave an impression. So before you go attacking me, and calling me names, why don't you pay attention and think about what I was really saying and not put your own demented twist on it!

    25. 25

it came on at 10pm….. which typically is geared towards "adult tv time" plus.. if your a parent, control your kid and tell them no that can't watch it. take some responsibility.

    26. 26

People are complaining about this show… think of all of the shows that are on TV (reality shows in particular) that show all these things and blur them out… kids aren't stupid… remember, we were all kids once…we knew exactly what was behind that blur.

The issue isn't what is being shown or a rating system. Parents need to get a grip on their kids. If you don't want them watching it, shut the tv off. Monitor your kids… be a parent!!

    27. 27

it's called being a parent and monitoring what your child watches instead of depending on some dumb ass parent televison council….wtf is that anyway?? kids need to get of the boob tube n e way….here's a great idea, GO RIDE A FUCKEN BIKE, CLIMB A TREE, WALK SOMEWHERE BUT GET THE HELL OUTTA THE HOUSE!!!!!!

    28. 28

Re: Marilyn Monroe – You're an idiot trying to pick a fight..
She's not homophobic, she's stating that she doesn't want her kids to watch two grown men kiss/make out.. As for you saying that gay ppl might be offended watching straight ppl kiss, too bad.. Man and woman kissing is natural. Gay is not. Kids are confused and don't understand.. It is totally inappropriate for them.. When they are older, like 13, I'd explain to my kids about gays.. But until then, just let them live their lives blissfully happy not having to decipher if being gay or straight is right or wrong.. Cartoons are good, but I wouldn't let my kids (if I had any) watch that channel period.. They need cartoons and fresh air! Kids are growing up wayyy too fast now a days!

    29. 29

Why would a kid want to watch Mad Men anyway?

    30. 30

Geez…I watch Mad Men, and it is not that racy. It's on network cable, so it's not like there can be nudity or anything. It's on at 900 (central), so not a *kiddy* time. I have a child, and I don't watch shows with her in the room, but I don't think the programming in this country should be tailored to suit the needs of parents of small children. C'mon…YOU decide what your kid watches.

    31. 31

Re: chelsoshea – I totally agree with you girl! Everthing you said is soo true! I would absolutely do the same when I have kids years ahead (I'm only 18).. Kids should watch cartoons.. That's it.. Plus, they shouldn't be sittin in front of the tv all day.. They should go outside, and play.. They shouldn't have to decipher if being gay or straight is right or wrong.. They should just enjoy being kids for now.. They can worry about all that in the future then they're older..

    32. 32

Re: RobPnMeShouldB – Exactly! I just saw your comment now! I totally agree! Keep kids active so they're not obese.. Plus kids are getting dumber and dumber and sluttier for girls.. They watch too much tv and grow up wayy too fast.. I normally am not one who blames it all on tv and video games, but look at your grandparents and even parents.. Compare them to kids today.. I'm 18 and my dad would bend me over his knee and spank my ass so hard if he ever saw me wearing what some 12 and 13 year olds are wearing.. When I have kids, I will definitely limit tv time..

    33. 33

Oh Please!! Give me a break people.
Turn off your TV if you believe kids shouldn't be watching. You have hundreds of other choices people!

My 5 year old is running in and out while I watch. First of all she doesn't get it, second she's not interested, and third I have yet to see nudity or bad language.

Basically the people complaining have a huge problem with the gay story line. That's the bottom line.

    34. 34

Re: DoubleD – I agree, but don't you think that kids are growing up too fast? Don't you think they're acting too old for their age? I know I didn't act the way kids do now a days.. I'm 18 and wouldn't do 3/4 of the shit kids do now.. I honestly blame it on tv and video games.. It sounds dumb, but generations ago, they didn't have that shit, and they turned out great.. as soon as tv and games came along, there's more crime, violence, and to be honest, kids are dumber! It's crazy out there!

    35. 35

OH yeah… forgot… How frickin hot is Don Draper.

The uptight old homophob bitches complaining about this need to chill.

    36. 36

lol, my nine year old brothers already know the most disgusting things in the world, so, they should chill a little.

    37. 37

Re: BeautifulBrunnette69 – look at you writing novels….

    38. 38

Re: BeautifulBrunnette69 – problem is these days, parents expect everyone else (schools, churches, law enforcement, siblings, etc) to raise their children for them. there's more to just having children, you must raise them to be assets to society. another problem is, real parents that try to discipline their chidren are reported to child protection agencies for no reason - if I had a kid that even for one second thought they could talk to me the way these kids do nowadays, they'd get popped right in the mouth…..and any person to report or tell me I'm wrong would get popped too!!!!!

    39. 39

Never watched it. Never will. Don't care.

    40. 40

Re: BeautifulBrunnette69 – hun, I just wanted to tell you that you are the most mature and intelligent 18 year olds I have ever encountered. Good on you.

    41. 41

My favorite show of all time, but not for the kids.

    42. 42

the ptc are a bunch of right wing religious asswipes. im sure they would have had a problem with "leave it to beaver"

    43. 43

If you don't want your kids to see gay kisses, straight kisses, cartoons, comedies, drama, reality, etc…..turn off the television. It's that simple. Show some personal responsibility as a parent, investigate the show ahead of time, screen it first if it's something you might let your child watch, then make up your mind. Demanding that a TV ratings organization change a rating to your personal preferences is a way of attempting to pass the responsibility for decisions involving your children on to someone else, and to live under the misguided notion that what goes for your family should go for everyone else.

I've been a mother for ten years now, love Mad Men, and would never let my children watch the show. My husband and I were somehow able to make this decision on our own without demanding that others should adhere to our choice with our own children, or subjectively rate it as we see things.

    44. 44

Seriously I can't imagine anyone under 21 watching MM. It is a very adult show.

    45. 45

Re: BeautifulBrunnette69 – you for president

    46. 46

OMG I can't stand this. What kind of parent doesn't watch the shows their kids want to watch first. My 9yo must ask me if he can watch a show he has heard about or seen a commercial for and then I have to watch at least one episode without him before I give my approval. Yes he has a tv in his room but it is definitley not hooked up to cable. This is called ACTIVE parenting. Quit trying to get everyone else to do your parenting for you. Take some responsibility for what your kids are watching, listening to, or reading.

    47. 47

      Re: chelsoshea

No…you're a homophobe. A very dumb, naive homophobe. Are you afraid that seeing a gay couple kiss would make your kids gay?? Are you offended by straight people being affectionate, or is it just the gays that bother you?
      .
      .
      .
One more thing……….shouldn't you be sucking off Rush Limbaugh right now??!? I'm pretty sure he isn't paying you to dick around on the Internet.

    48. 48

solution: monitor what your kids are watching

    49. 49

Re: RobPnMeShouldB – lol I totally agree again! I got slapped and spanked lots.. I had the strictest parents of all my friends, and I can say I'm prolly the most successful, most mature, and most morally mature.. Not bragging, I have LOTS of flaws.. I'm human like anyone else, and there are alot of people better than me out there! I'm just saying b/c they were strict, I turned out pretty damn good! LOL I saw alot of my friends get away with just about anything.. Out of my friends, 3-4 of them were pregnant by 16, some had STD's, some in jail.. The list goes on.. I'm one of the few who are going back to school and keeping on the straight and narrow.. You are an awesome parent! I would trust you watching my kids any day..

    50. 50

Re: lau115ren – A: Who the fuck is Rush Limbaugh? B: Why would she be offended if straight ppl were kissing?! THat's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.. You're just looking to pick a fight with someone today arent' you?

    51. 51

Re: Greasy Weed – Thanks? lol if you were serious.. Vote for me and I'll make you my vice prez! :P

    52. MP says – reply to this

      52

Everything always comes back to a gay issue with Perez, doesn't it? How sad. I wouldn't consider a parent homophobic if they didn't want their young children to see a gay couple kiss. Although, Mad Men isn't really a show for children anyway.

    53. 53

Re: skeezer – Thanks hun… *blush*.. I try really hard to be a good girl.. That sounds stupid, by in my small town, it's not common to be a good girl.. And I really want to be a good parent one day.. You'll never be a good parent if you don't practice what you preach.. so hopefully, I'll be a good mommy :S..

    54. 54

Re: JigSaw – You like it? :P Lol or are you making fun of me? :( lol

    55. 55

SINCE WHEN WAS THE SHOW EVER APPROPRIATE FOR KIDS? ITS MAD MEN YOU IDIOTS, THAT SHIT IS FOR MATURE AUDIENCES. THE PARENTS ARE JUST A BUNCH OF HOMOPHOBES! WE ALL KNOW THE REAL REASON BEHIND IT

    56. 56

Re: chelsoshea – No offense dear, but you're a hypocrite. You say you are not homophobic but you say that two men kissing is offensive. Those two things contradict each other (unless kids aren't allowed to see a man and a woman kiss either, then I apologize) because that says "I can tolerate you, as long as you are not yourself". Homophobia is "an extreme and irrational aversion to homosexuality and homosexual people". Im not sure if you think you're kids will "turn gay" if they see two men kissing but since it doesn't work that way, that's makes that about as irrational as it gets. Would your kids ask about it, maybe, depending on their age but it's up to you to inform them when the time is right. That is our job as a parent. If they are young, they shouldn't be watching it. Most kids wouldn't even notice the difference between two men kissing or a man and a woman kissing. Views on "vulgarities" are passed on from people of influence in their lives, like family and friends. They would only question it if they see you uncomfortable. What you're really trying to say is YOU have a problem with it. Change the channel… and good luck to your child.

    57. CHYA says – reply to this

      57

I don't think it has anything to do with homophobia… The bellboy's hand was down Sal's pants. That, to me, is quite graphic and definitely NOT PG! It wouldn't matter if the two people were a man and a woman!

    58. 58

Re: websnap – Why is everyone picking on this poor girl? Give it up.. She's not homophobic, she has common sense.. There's no way I'm typing all that again.. Read my comments and get some common sense..

    59. 59

      Re: BeautifulBrunnette69

"Who the fuck is Rush Limbaugh?"
      .
      .
Oh good lord…. I hope you're either joking or 13-years-old. No…scratch that…my 13-year-old niece knows who Rush Limbaugh is. Ignorance about the world must be pure bliss.

    60. 60

Re: chelsoshea – So, if you're not homophobic, then why wouldn' you want your kids to see a gay kiss??? Shouldn't they be exposed to ALL aspects of society? No? Seems very intolerant and closed-minded to me!!! GO AWAY with your CHRISTIANITY!!! Can't we just leave religion out of it all for ONCE? Your poor kids, they're gonna get one harsh reality check once they can free themselves of your censorship!

    61. 61

i wouldn't let my kids watch anything with people making out (whether gay or straight) but i'm pretty sure that if you're against gays (or even just gay marriage) that you ARE a homophobe…

    62. 62

Re: skeezer – I could not agree more. She is very beautiful and smart! Strong head on her shoulders and stands up for what she believes in. No matter what! Love you Beautiful 69! I control what my kids watch. They are very young. But, still you can't be too careful.

    63. 63

Re: lau115ren – Don't jump to the wrong conclusion. She is not in this country! Rush is from my state! The young lady you are referring to is in another country. I would not know their radio personality either.

    64. 64

if you don't want your kids to watch tv then TURN THE TV OFF. just because you are too lazy to take care of your own kids doesn't mean the rest of the world is responsible for them.
why do people even have children if they do not want the responsibility of looking after them?

    65. 65

lmao, the brown bloated brunette is the least mature and ignorant 18 year old i have ever encountered on the internet. really, you're going to wait til your kids are THIRTEEN to tell them about gay people? i knew in elementary school. i'm pretty sure they could find out a lot about the world then if you're going to wait on that for so long. you should just give birth and sit around their whole childhood because you have some pretty fucked up thoughts about raising kids. also you look like a big slab of ham.

    66. 66

also that shea bitch with the glasses… why don't you eat a bag of ethnic dicks? i'm catholic and i was raised to love and accept gay people. HOMOSEXUALITY IS SEXUAL, SEXUALITY IS NATURAL (this also goes to FatBrownHam69). oh nooo, the christians beliefs are not being tolerated? you assholes don't tolerate ANYTHING and are always complaining, don't play with me like you don't always get your way in general with political shit. fuck your kids, you're probably also that parent who gives me dirty looks when i smoke in public. and you know what else? GOD FORGIVES. GOD LOVES. God probably forgives fucking serial killers. if homosexuality is unnatural and "WRONG," he will forgive them too. fuck off and keep preparing your children for a very close-minded, non-tolerant view of the world and the people that live in it.

    67. 67

If people don't like something why the hell can't they just change the damn channel instead of whining ablut it and trying to ruin it for everyone else.

    68. 68

I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.
      Mohandas Gandhi

    69. 69

interesting how american parents are worried about a gay kiss, more than some 15 y.o pop tart being a continuous whore under the flag of Disney.

    70. 70

Straight people make out on TV all the time,
Especially on shows made for teens.
If gay people make out, it's no different, the way I see it.
I really don't want to see it either way…
But kids can handle it, parents don't need to be soooo prissy.
My parents weren't, I am just fine.

    71. 71

      Sorry to double post..
      But, despite what I said,
I reeeaallly don't think it's right to jump the gun on the prissy parents and call them homophobes, because they think watching gay men kiss will ruin their children.
Thats just how some people think.
I know you think it's silly, as do I, but don't judge so harshly.

    72. 72

Re: BeautifulBrunnette69 – Being mature is one thing, living in Medieval Times is another lol How incredibly closed-minded! I'm so glad that my future kids will be just as responsible as you, yet they'll be nothing like you! You may be very responsible for your age and all, but I think that good girl image comes with a great deal of ignorance! Maybe you should get some more education!

    73. 73

Parents Television Council are religious nuts…
      *
      *
They tried to have Ally McBeal, Dawson's Creek, Ellen, Friends, Spin City, SpongeBob SquarePants, Family Guy and the WWE baned or rated for mature audiences only.
      *
      *
They are anti gay anti mix raced couples anti fun!
      *
Police there own tvs ill decided what i watch on mine!

    74. 74

Hahaha wooooooow I've never seen mad men but I've heard of it, and I'm pretty sure my friends have no idea what it is. Besides AMC is for old people cuz all their movies are from the 80's and 70's and earlier. Really nothing interesting on it for teenagers I can tell u that.

    75. 75

If you watched the show Perez you would know that the gay kiss that occurred THIS season in the first episode is probably what is setting people off.

    76. 76

Re: BeautifulBrunnette69 – it's not common sense, it's hypocrisy. She can think and act any way she likes, it's a free country, just don't hide under the delusion that you are not homophobic just because you don't run Gay people down in the street with your car, or because you continue to go to your salon even though you are pretty sure the guy who washes your hair is gay. If you claim to accept a group of people you have to accept them in they same way you accept others. If passionate kissing is allowed in EVERY medium (daytime soaps, PG movies, sitcoms) for Strait couples, being against the EXACT situation with same sex characters is Homophobic. That is cut an dry, no two ways about it. Hell, last season on Mad Men a female character was raped by her husband, where were the Morality Police on that one?

And you know what I wasn't picking on her any more than I am picking on you. She made, as you did, a strong judgment on the internet that should never have been made if it was not up for scrutiny, there is a reply button for others, not just for you. If you believe there is any difference between a same sex kiss and a hetero kiss that, by definition, is homophobia. Continue to follow you own personal view if you wish to, just label it accordingly.

    77. 77

It's because of the gay kiss. Losers.

    78. 78

Re: websnap – I am very very educated.. LOL.. It's against my religion to believe that homosexuals should act on their desires.. So I'm not being prejudiced, I'm being real and honest.. It's easy for you to judge me, but sorry, I won't do the same..

    79. 79

Re: BeautifulBrunnette69 – Who said anything about you not being educated? I didn't, besides there are lots of educated people who lack linking common sense together (for the record, I'm not saying you, I don't know you). I'm not judging you, I'm judging your choices and actions based on your post and replies… both of which are not who you are but what you choose to follow or believe right now. There's no telling what you think feel or believe in ten years time. Hopefully you will realize one day that other people's lives don't effect our own unless we let them. I see ugly people kiss when I am out and around town, gay and strait, but I don't prevent them from procreating, getting married, or being affectionate in public, and ugly people are gross and wrong to me. Why don't I care? because it has nothing to do with my life. Just because you don't like something that has nothing to do with you're day-to-day life doesn't mean you doesn't mean you should have any influence over it's regulation. People's emotions, if not harming anyone, should not be regulated or cast aside by those with no vested interest in it. They are not in a position to understand the harm they are doing.

    80. 80

ummm.. I don't know ANY kids who watch this show. Plus, it comes on at 10pm on Sundays!! What young impressionable kid is up then??
And truly, has anyone ever seen Gossip Girl– the crapfest that kids actually do watch? Why pick on a show that is different than any other and is entertaining to the market it goes for– Adults?
