Nickelodeon To Open Its Own Water Theme Park

nicklogooo.jpg

You know the Pitt-Jolie kids are gonna be all about this!

Nickelodeon has partnered up with Southern Star Amusement and the city of New Orleans to create their first ever water theme park called Nickelodeon Universe New Orleans.

Fun!

Southern Star will construct the park with brands licensed from Nickelodeon.

So what's that mean for the kiddies?

Looks like they'll have characters from some of their top shows like SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer throughout the park.

There will also be rides, characters in costumes, games, food, shops and more. The water park will actually take up 65 acres and a spot that was formerly Jazzland/Six Flags.

Construction is set to begin later this year, and they're hoping to open their doors by the end of 2010.

Awesome. I never thought they'd do anything with that area.

    5. 5

You mean ANOTHER theme park. Do your research. They already have on in Florida and one in Minnesota!

EW NO WHY IN NEW ORLEANS !!!! this is possibly like the worst idea ever!! this should be in l.a or california .

    12. 12

Good for them. New Orleans needs something to bring the people back.

Is it bad that I'm almost 18 and was just freaking out like a five year old? I'm so stoked! Something definitely needs to go there. But what says it's not going to get washed out if another hurricane comes through?

I'm so getting a season pass!

Re: sydneeeyisyummy – Wahh wahh wahh. NOLA needs something. California has enough. The city seems to turn everything to gold lately and is a huge tourist attraction. This will be great for the economy. Be happy for the people who get to enjoy this and quit whining.

      Re: sydneeeyisyummy – I agree!

I live in CA, but love the oldschool culture of New Orleans. It doesn't seem like theme park like this would fit in there. It's too commercial, go ruin another state Nickelodeon!

fyi on 2 thing: 1) there is a nick HOTEL in florida…not a water park….
      2) um..jazzland closed because it was SINKING INTO THE GROUND!!!! The soil couldn't stand the weight of the rides..but i'm SURE louisiana politics being what they are they TOLD nick that…thus another reason I left the frickin place when I did….

    22. 22

Yeah, ’cause everyone has so much extra money just laying around to blow at an amusement park. A new amusement park? Really?

    23. 23

sounds like Nickelodeon Central @ King's Dominion in VA but way more elaborate.. KD itself is super sweet though ;)

    24. 24

This is SO AMAZING for New Orleans. This is in a part of town that still looks like it was just hit by Katrina. Not only is this a PHENOMENAL way to revitalize that part of the city but it will create TONS of jobs. WTG Nick!

Re: Candace – Have you even been to New Orleans? You do realize it extends beyond the French Quarter, right? Nowhere even near any "old school culture"! It's actually on the outskirts of NO.

One problem with this is that Jazzland/Six Flags began to sink. Last time I was there some rides were closed. Of course, I guess a waterpark may be better?
