Mexico Makes Drug Possession (In Small Amounts) LEGAL!!!!!
Attention stoners & addicts: Move To Mexico!
This morning, it was announced that the use and/or possession of small amounts of drugs, such as marijuana, cocaine and heroin would be "decriminalized" in Mexico. The act is in no way an attempt to legalize drug use in the country, but an effort to protect minor offenders from the corrupt dealings of the Mexican police force.
According to sources, before this law was passed, any possession of illegal drugs resulted in a stiff sentencing of jail time. How long you were actually in prison did not depend on the amount of drugs on your person but the amount of money in your wallet. It has been suggested that a person's release was dependent on the officer in charge and many collected bribes from detainees, threatening longer jail time if they didn't pay.
So now, this new law sets out maximum "personal use" amounts for drugs and people found with these quantities will no longer face criminal prosecution.
"The maximum amount of marijuana for 'personal use' under the new law is 5 grams — the equivalent of about four joints. The limit is a half gram for cocaine, the equivalent of about 4 'lines.' For other drugs, the limits are 50 milligrams of heroin, 40 milligrams for methamphetamine and 0.015 milligrams for LSD."
Hopefully, by implementing this ruling, the more serious offenders involved with drug trafficking will become more of the primary focus rather than just casual users.
It's one small step for Mexico, one giant leap for every stoner in L.A. County this weekend!

decriminalization and legalization are two different things… decriminalization just means it no longer results in a criminal charge. possessing small amounts of marijuana were decriminalized in Massachusetts too and there is now a $100 fine instead of criminal charges. So…just go to MA!

It does depend on the officer in charge and among other things we will never know about. My roommate had 2 kilos of cocaine. We brought down 15k and they let him out with some broken ribs in a hotel room on the border. stange times.

In TX decriminalization began last year. It is up to the officers discretion if they are going to ticket or jail a person pulled over for marijuanna. Of course in the bible belt areas(small part of east TX) you are likely to go to jail, but in the more laid back areas you will get a 'pass'. This is if you are truthful w/ the officers and have it in one bag (I'm not sure if it the limit is one ounce or two).

Everybody ready to make pot legal in the U.S.? Will it be ok with you if police officers, judges, teachers, doctors, nurses, EMTs use it too in their off-hours? Yeah, I still think theyre still where they started. Living in a corrupt country myself, probably worse than mexico; the corrupt cops will probably start planting additional drugs or lie about a persons actual drug amount in their reports and still exort people and still break the law. Personally Im against drugs, but Im also against corruption and exortion, this isnt a step for mexico actually, corrupt authorities will find a way around it, thats what they usually do in third world countries.
