Some players for the Sydney convicts have come out in support of equality.

We particularly like the phrase: "It's not who you are. It's how you play the game!"

I nearly joined London's Kings Cross Steelers gay rugby team for the showers alone, then I realised I would have to actually go on the pitch and possibly get hurt. Fuck that off. ;)

      Yeah the fact that they're supposedly a GAY rugby team kind of deflates the whole idea. They're gay, so of course they friggin' accept it.

      If it was a straight team it would be another matter entirely and then you would have something to cheer about.

      Australia is a very conservative country (2nd only to America) - and gay rights and acceptance still has a long way to go there (despite many comments on here that will proclaim otherwise - they probably live in the big cities).

      This is what makes me proud to be an Aussie. I don't really see the gay factor to rugby. Sure, the shorts are little small but traditional Aussie sports are all about sporsmanship and friendship that's behind it. Sad thing is a lot of people now take any form of affection as more than friendship. It's disgusting. But nah, these guys are sending across the right message. Fight homophobia, because everyone should be able to love who they want without being judged. Plus, we're all stuck on this earth with each other. We'd better start getting used to it.

      Good to see they are doing that. It's sad to see that people still don't understand it's about love. I'm not a religious person but I believe in God or whatever you whant to call him, regardless of your religion. If that is the reason why people are't alowed to marry whomever they want (man or woman), then for me they all got it wrong. It's all about love and acceptance, not hate and rejection. We're all free aren't we?

      Re: Perez Smells His Skidmarks – Hey dude, I play in the Convicts and you are more than welcome to play against us, especially if you make homophobic comments like you have been, cause you would get smashed, you wouldn't know what hit you - in fact you wouldn't last 2 mins. The photo you all see is part of a campaign called This is OZ, its a campaign about speaking up for an inclusive Australia. People from all over Australia -members of the public, celebs and sports stars (and from round the world) write their own message, take a photo and upload it on to the site (www.thisisoz.com.au). The messages you see were written by the Australian Rugby team players, they had their photos taken holding their messages and then a few of the convicts team came in for a joint photo.
      While most of the Convicts are gay, there are quite a few straight players in the team as well. We play against straight teams in the Sydney competition, they dont care if we are gay or straight, it is only about playing the game as hard and as skillfully as you can.
