Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds is expected to bring in $35 million at the U.S. box office sales over the course of the weekend, saving Basterds' production company, The Weinstein Company, from sliding into bankruptcy!
Critics anticipated the film, starring Brad Pitt, to tank at the box office considering Tarantino's last film, Grindhouse was a total flop and Basterds was less-than-well received at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
Guess Harvey's excessive promotion of the film worked out for the better!

It was an ok movie. Pretty damn hilarious in parts and Brad Pitt's character just made it even funnier with his happy go lucky way of dispatching 'Nassies'! I probably wouldn't rush out to see it again if another friend wanted to see it. I enjoyed it, but I was sort of underwhelmed and had higher expectations. It was fun though and made for a decent summer movie. I had happy happy thoughts when they gave the 'Nassies' the special haircuts and batting practice was nice too! What's not to like about seeing nazis die horribly anyway!

OMG!! I loved this movie!! Me and my boyfriend laugh throughout the movie. Totally hiliarious. Quentin did an excellent job with this film. I see why it got rated an A for its review. Would see it again. And highly recommend it.

PEREZ - you're SO f*cking lame. The movie has gotten 4 or 5 out of 5 STARS by every major newspaper/reviewer except the New Yorker. The Nazi villian won BEST ACTOR at Cannes - ya, that's not well received. The movie is f*cking brilliant and the villian will win an Oscar. So STFU

saw it yesterday morning @ the first showing they had. LOVED it!! lots of blood, action, gun fights, and the dialogue is pure tarantino. there's even a close-up shot of a ladies foot of course for quentin's foot fetish! the guy that played "the jew hunter" was really well cast. he could really fuck with people's heads w/ a smile on his face! i felt it coulda been a TAD shorter, but that may only be because i had to use the restroom so bad towards the end. haha
it was REALLLLY good. i loved it! the ny times is so friggin stuck up and picky in all of their reviews..
Perez you never seem to know what your talking about. No one was under the impression that this was going to tank at the box office. Besides it mostly received positive reviews. And how can you compare this to what Grindhouse did. Grindhouse was a vanity project that sucked and was packaged with another really bad movie. It never had a chance to find an audience. Grindhouse was in a genre that people lost interest in about 35 years ago. IB was not a great movie but had a some really good moments. It was a bit boring sometimes. Brad was not even in it that much. Diane Kruger despite her looks proved that she is one bad actress. Eli Roth was very good in it. The French was good. The remarks that icraveattn made dont make scene. How could that movie be misunderstood as shallow! It is hard to be shallow when the holocaust and WW2 are involved.
Brad Pitt sucks.
He can't act worth shit.

Love Tarantino movies! Loved Grindhouse, love that genre. Watched IB despite Brad Pitt being in it. Not a great movie but not bad. Still like the Kill Bill movies the best. I think Pitts acting is mediocre at best, never liked him, never will.

Inglorious was pretty good not the best Tarantino but I mean he made Kill Bill and Pul Fiction its hard to get any better than that. I was expecting more but I still liked what I got.. It was beautifully done visually. The story line didnt get in the Basterds enough AT ALL. A little slow at first but overall its a fucking Tarantino so yeah its still epic.
Am I the only one who realizes this is a remake of a movie by the same name from the late sixties early 70's. That is all QT does is ripe off old movies learn movie history people the originals are better.,
It's not luck, it's called good film making, something you wouldn't know anything about. This was one of the best movies I've seen in years.
The reception at Cannes was mixed. Some said it was his best film yet. It received about a 10 minute standing ovation after the first screening. And the lead Nazi villain received the Best Leading Actor award.
So yeah, it was totally "less than well received."

Loved the movie… it was a little drawn-out, like most Tarantino movies, but most definitely his best film yet– and definitely the best film I've seen all year. I go to maybe 1 movie a year, just because of the ridiculously inflated price, and this was it– and I'm quite happy with it.

Just saw it liked it, didn't love it. I was hoping for some of the patented Tarantino brilliant dialogue like in Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, etc. and that's mostly absent. Also, most of the scenes were overly long. So, I guess I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars, maybe 3.5.
Re: katgirl476 – The story line for the basterds of today and "The Inglorious Bastards" of 1978 are completely different. The only similarity is the the era, the title, and the involvement of nazis.
Did see it and did love it, but only because it was Tarantino. Definitely not his best work, but it didn't disappoint. I think if first time Tarantino movie goers watched, it might have turned them off.

Best Tarantino film EVER! Critics may speak to 'padding' and 'racism' ….I say suspensful & entertaining….. laughs swept the theatre, for the most part due to Brad Pitts over the top Lt Aldo Raine. Not since Johnny Depp's Capt Jack Sparrow has a character so delighted!
