It's gotta be better than The Hills!
After an intense bidding war, MTV has acquired the rights to develop a U.S. version of the U.K. hit Skins.
The series follows a group of coming-of-age Brits as they search for love and happiness, but don't let that fool you.
It has been described as a British Gossip Girl, but there's far more sex and drug use on the show!
“We are delighted to be making ‘Skins’ for the U.S. and in particular, for MTV who have embraced the show and its ambitions and unusual production process," said Company Pictures CEO, Charlie Pattinson. "We are looking forward to talking to teenagers across the U.S. and making a show that reflects their lives in every aspect.”

I loved this show on BBC. It was a million times better than gossip girl. I'm sure MTV will ruin it. After all how could MTV ever produce a show about real kids with real issues. I'm sure the MTV's version will have everyone living in McManshions

the actual Skins is AMAZING. I'm a little worried MTV is just going to eff it up. I'd prefer if they just picked up the British skins on syndicate.

And Skins is not like Gossip Girl. GG is set in Manhattan's Upper East Side, Skins is set in the middle/working class area of Bristol. The characters of GG live like socialites, the characters of Skins have wild parties and do drugs because they don't have a very glamourous lifestyle!

Probably not. The UK version especially the first 2 seasons is amazing. But think like most UK shows they try to recreate over here really suck. But if any one has not watched the UK version do season 3 is playing now and to me it is not up to 1 & 2. but still good TV.

Oh my God, no..the original Skins is amazing, but an Americanized Skins?! That just wouldn't work. Well, there's the factor that the kids in the English Skins are all (almost) allowed to drink, there won't be anything like the debauchery they have in the English Skins.
And it's nothing like Gossip Girl.
The UK version is DELICIOUS but I am very, very frightened of what might happen to the show in Translation.
Skins was amazing. Haven't watched the third season (worked nights) but I really hope it doesn't loose the ace-ness over in the States. I'm in my early twenties and that it was like being 5 years younger again. Not that I've changed much.
This is so annoying, 'Skins' is emotional, crude and brilliant, it's a fantastic show. I doubt the shit American version would even live up to the original.

This is just completely depressing. Skins is a fantastic show, but the thing that makes the show so irresistible is the British charm. The creators actually captured the essence of teens facing teen problems with teen reactions. This is no Gossip Girl, this is deep grit with lots of nip slips and the ever entertaining liberal use of the word "twat". MTV needs to take a hint. America has tried this equation over and over and over again. They just can't do it. Things on Skins don't wrap up sweetly at the end of every hour long episode, much less at the end of the season. They have much more leniency in terms of television restrictions and what not, and that works to the shows advantage and makes it the gem it is. &%^$^&((*%$## this is JUST a tragedy.
I don't think the US could handle the British version of Skins, it's too "controversial" for them. No wonder they are making their own version. Also, it's fuck all like Gossip Girl.
So the US is pretty much going to take that BRILLIANT show and FUCK it up!! WE already have a US version…it's called Gossip Girl!

Ha that's not going to work. Americans are far too conservative to follow the same storylines. I read Gossip Girl before it was a book and trust me, there's a lot of stuff in those books that the producers decided to just not do….prob because the Mommys would have a fit if they thought their 15 yr olds were watching it.
There are too many things in Skins that americans wont be able to air on television. Kids here are allowed to drink at 18 and the characters are 17-18, in america its 21 and just so much more strict.
None of it will be allowed on tv, drugs, sex including the gay kind and britain is just more relaxed about putting that stuff on tv…..
FYI - I love Gossip Girl but the tv show isn't accurate at all really and tbh I think Skins is a lot more real than GG.
What is with you guys all you seem to be doing is making remakes of our best shows and destroying them either play the originals or leave them be and stick with your more glamorous stuff..next it will be the Inbetweeners.
Such a brilliant show, if they wanna keep it that way.. dont bring it to the states and remake it into something slightly edgier than gossip girl. Even when they brought the original skins to BBCA and aired it in the US, they completely censored and edited everything, ruining the raw emotion of the show.

This is an absolutely terrible idea. Skins is the best show on television because it isn't censored and they are allowed to do full on drugs, alcohol, sex, etc. MTV will ruin it. Watch the British Skins, it's brilliant. There is no way it will be good in America.

This is one of my favorite shows I watch it online so much and it's great, one of the things that makes it great is the fact that it's british and not american I do not want them to ruin it!
MTV, with their constant need for censoring something as simple as the word "shit" can never succeed in this.
Skins is quite raw and to MTV's standards, too racy to get the same situations and emotions across.
