The First Family Take Their First Vacation; Reporters Be Gone!

President Barack Obama has a stern message for the press while he and the first family are on vacation: Back off!
The first president in many years to have young children while in office, Obama has urged the media to "respect the privacy" of his daughters, Sasha and Malia, while the family enjoys Martha's Vineyard this week.
A "pool" of the press have already been selected to join the presidential family. However, should they leak the location of the family to any other news outlets, they will be promptly thrown out of the pool.
Obama is not messing around, nor should he. We just wish he put this kind of fervor and aggressiveness towards some other issues!

Either way, I'm glad to see that Obama is taking time out of his busy schedule (making TBS commercials with George Lopez) to enjoy some time with his family. Bush took more vacation time than any other sitting pres. in U.S. history, garnering the name 'the vacation president.' FYI. Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of days of vacation time in 8 years.
I heard this on the news this morning as I was getting ready for work: The cost of the rental at Martha's Vineyard is $35,000.00 per week and also that he paid for this himself.

I dont believe the press should have to respect the rights of his children and not take pictures. He brought them into the public spotlight, and he should prepare them to live there. There are many famous people who choose the spotlight themselves and have to deal with their children being targets of photographers etc. I dont think he's so special that he should get special treatment. If he didnt want them in the spotlight, he shouldnt have taken the office of president.

I don't have a problem with the president taking vacations, lord knows they have stresses have can't imagine. However, if you are a public person then you should expect to lose some measure of privacy. My problem with Obama is his love hate with the media. He loves them when it benefits him and then scolds them when it suits him. As far as Bush he went to Crawford for his down time, Crawford isn't exactly ritzy MV. Bush basically went to his home where from what I understand was like command central, so it's not like he wasn't connected to the world while in Texas. A president never really takes a vacation like a normal person, doesn't matter who he is. Obama should just let his kids be photographed, he didn't have a problem pimping them out before the elections to every magazine known to man so why stop now.

A USA Today story, written right before Bush took off, reported that the vacation—scheduled to last from Aug. 3 to Sept. 3—would tie one of Richard Nixon's as the longest that any president had ever taken. A week before he left, Bush made a videotaped message for the Boy Scouts of America. On the tape, he said, "I'll be going to my ranch in Crawford, where I'll work and take a little time off. I think it is so important for the president to spend some time away from Washington, in the heartland of America."
