McCartney Denies Feud With Lennon, Blames Drugs & Sites Regret

Filed under: Anglophilia > Paul McCartney

ap-beatles__opt1.jpg

Recently, an unheard interview with John Lennon surfaced, where the former Beatles bandmember put his comrades on blast, including Sir Paul McCartney.

Now, when questioned about the interview, Paul remains unfazed, insisting that it was probably drugs that made John speak ill of him, as well as recall that John often didn't mean half the things he said.

Says Macca:

"John said so much crap that he later said he hadn't meant. It's bullshit. We were there. We all enjoyed it. I never really criticised John. I'm not that critical. It's a question of personalities…Whatever bad things John said about me, he would also slip his glasses down to the end of his nose and say, 'I love you'.That's really what I hold on to. That's what I believe. The rest is showing off."

Do we sense some denial from Sir McCartney? Or is that some genuine truth? Guess we'll never know for sure.

What do U think?

    Long live the Beatles!!

  2. 2

*sigh* oh Perez. You make it pretty obvious you know nothing about the Beatles.
Yes, John was famously dramatic. One day the Beatles were crap and the biggest mistake of his life, the next day it was genius and legendary.
Paul is right. (Even though I can't stand Paul…lol)

  3. 3

I believe them both! John was an intellectual and sometimes they are a bit moody and they mean what they say when they say it but the mood switches and that thought doesn't define them from that point on.

  4. 4

let's see. john is dead, it happened years ago. fah-get-about-it already.

  5. 5

A little from Column A, a little from Column B.
But Lennon would have most definately been the wordsmith when it came to songwriting, no matter what McCartney says.

  6. 6

Sir Paul McCartney probably doesn't want to besmirch John Lennon's name (or the Beatles) and is doing a wee bit of "damage control"…nothing wrong with that.

The Beatles were revolutionary…why sling mud after all these years?

  7. 7

He was there, we were not. And this is not the first time I have heard such stories about the two arguing over something or other, to the point where onlookers feared they'd start punching each other, when all of a sudden Lennon would lower his eye glasses and would say something like "It's only me, Pauly" and start laughing. Then they'd go at it again! Lennon was a deeply divided man who would one day say the music he made was shit, and the next day boast it was all great. When asked in the mid-70's what Beatles song he'd redo if he could he simply answered "All of them".

  8. 8

denial? maybe. making peace with past issues and not wanting to see his dead, old friend in a bad light? definitely.

  9. 9

What do I think? I think that you are in no way, shape, or form able to pass or influence judgment on ANYONE!!! Much less the Beatles. Again…please, STFU….

    10

    cites regret?

  11. 11

There was some tension there, whether he wants to admit it or not. but nevertheless, i think they all truly loved each other as brothers, they were so close for a long time, they held forever bond. I mean, musicians fight amongst themselves all the time. Its not like its un common anyway.

  12. 12

Don't know whether Paul is trying to save face or is telling the truth. Either way, it was no secret that John was a bit of a jerk. I love John and rest of The Beatles equally, but I'm very disappointed with how John neglected Julian. Hell, even Sean said John was an asshole.

  13. 13

    dude, cites*

  14. 14

Oh Perez. You mean cites, not sites — a reference, not a location.

  15. 15

    I believe Paul.

  16. 16

    It's the truth!!!!
    Sir Paul said it.
Quit trying to make trouble when there is none.
    Jerk.

  17. 17

AT THE END OF THE DAY..THEY ALL LOVED EACH OTHER

  18. 18

Time blurs everything, stop blaming and "Let It Be"

  19. 19

You're kidding, right? Lennon & McCartney argued? Next thing you'll tell me, they had a fight and broke up the Beatles.

  20. 20

All water under the bridge. Why start throwing shit now?

  21. 21

hey paul knew him,we didn't-john did sem like that type of person.thats so paul…whatever-luv him!!!!

  22. 22

Re: SusanWinters – john was a bit of a hypocrite

  23. 23

Re: karumba – No, that was YOKO's doing…LMAO.

  24. 24

the beatles are known for peace and love in their lyrics and music! so stop with this drama. what has happened is their business not ours. and perez, go to beatlefest and learn how this is not just affecting the band but the people who believe in what they stand for!

  25. 25

Lennon could be a drama queen. I truly believe he loved McCartney.

  26. 26

Perez, please consider brushing up on your grammar skills. While you're at it, get into the habit of utilizing your spellchecker before publishing your posts. It's obvious you're a bright child, as you're probably raking it in hand over fist. Maybe you could start appearing as if you actually DESERVE it if you did these two things - MAYBE.

  27. 27

STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER!!! Quit fretting over the past…you can't change it, so let it go. The Beatles should be remembered as the group that turned the musical world around….not two (or four) drama queens.

  28. 28

Definition of friend, speak your mind and still love. John of all people stood for that.

  29. 29

denial? you think you're a big deal and paul mccartney is in denial? shut up, perez. we beg you.

  30. 30

Paul McCartney remembering the best about his friend says good things about both of them. John is not here to defend himself. Good for Paul for rising above it. Everyone says things they regret later but true friends know what is in your soul. Love is all you need!

  31. 31

I think you are a ratbastard ya sperm bank!heheheee

  32. 32

denial just listen to the song How do you sleep by John Lennon it was written for Paul !

  33. 33

If you ever have any question about how Paul feels about John, check out the song called "Here Today" It was a poem that was later recorded as a song that McCartney wrote after John died. I saw whim play this live last week, and it was very moving. It was their relationship, and regardless of what really happened, they did create some brilliant music.

  34. 34

"Whatever bad things John said about me, he would also slip his glasses down to the end of his nose and say, 'I love you' " So cute!!!… it very nice to see that he has good memories about that time

  35. 35

Paul is looking back with loving eyes. He could be controlling and Lennon could be a nutter but at the end of the day they all cared about one another. The pressure they were under would cause anyone to buckle. They were both strong personalities. But look at the music they created.

  36. 36

At this stage in his life it really does not matter. And, when all is said and done they are still the best band in the land. Love the Beatles!

  37. 37

    i believe him…Paul

  38. 38

What would you think if I sang out of tune,
Would you stand up and walk out on me.
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song,
And I'll try not to sing out of key.
Oh I get by with a little help from my friends,
Mmm,I get high with a little help from my friends,
Mmm, I'm gonna try with a little help from my friends.
    Do you need anybody?
    I need somebody to love.
    Could it be anybody?
    I want somebody to love.
What do I do when my love is away.
(Does it worry you to be alone)
How do I feel by the end of the day
(Are you sad because you're on your own)
No, I get by with a little help from my friends,
Mmm, get high with a little help from my friends,
Mmm, gonna to try with a little help from my friends
Would you believe in a love at first sight?
Yes I'm certain that it happens all the time.
What do you see when you turn out the light?
    I can't tell you, but I know it's mine.
Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends,
Mmm I get high with a little help from my friends,
Oh, I'm gonna try with a little help from my friends

  39. 39

John Lennon, my personal hero, was considered "the funny one", so it's hard to tell. But many sources have said when he was using heroin or drinking his fave drink, brandy alexanders, he was quite mean. I trust what Sir Paul says, considering he actually KNEW him…

  40. 40

I think you need to know how to spell "cites", Perez.

  41. 41

who are we to judge their relationship…ONLY them 2 know what they had…and I'm sure it was special. Besides, how many relationships have bumps on the road. It's their personal business.

  42. 42

    Paul is genuine

  43. 43

I think he loved his now-gone friend and he is a gentleman and would never say something harsh about someone he loved, something sorely lacking in today's society. He knew John far better than anyone else and I'm sure what he says is how it was.

  44. 44

    Truth!
    .

  45. 45

I believe Paul. That, what Paul said John would do, actually sounds like something John would in fact do. He was very whimsical and savvy. He said shit to say shit, simply put. Now, let's get on with our Beatle-lovin' lives.

  48. 48

Oh my God, of COURSE John loved Paul. There's no question. This interview that they're referring to was done in 1970 RIGHT after the break-up. John was bitter and said a lot of stuff that HE HIMSELF later admitted was lies. Even in 1971 John called Paul his best friend in an interview. There's this myth that they hated each other and it's just not true at all.

  49. 49

I guess we are all interested because they were (probably) the greatest, most influential band ever, but these were there actual, private relationships. It was probably a mixture of both, but is really no one else's business, and in the end I think many of us push the bad to the backs of our minds, and hold onto the good. They were really young…just in their twenties! I can't imagine four people that created and experienced so much together didn't love each other.

  50. 50

You know nothing about The Beatles you idiot, so shut the fuck up. Leave them out of your malicious gossip.

Also, that's "Sir Paul" or "Sir Paul McCartney" you fool, NEVER "Sir McCartney". You claim you're an Anglophile? You know nothing, you also constantly misuse British slang.

Re: Sensitivity – Hi there. Where is she? I miss her. Tell her hello for me. MUAH!

  53. 53

Come on, Chickenhawk. This isn't news worthy. And the fact that you question whether or not people believe this shows how shallow you really are. These guys were life long friends and if you read the John Lennon biography, you would know that. Once again, your stupidity and your propensity for causing distress and bullshit shines through.

  54. 54

Paul McCartney is not telling the truth. John Lennon spent many years enraged at Paul McCartney - especially over Yoko Ono. Read ANYTHING about John Lennon and you will find "just gimme some truth…" - or more aptly put: "How Do You Sleep," Paul?

  55. 55

Thank God John Lennon's fans still remember the truth. Here Paul, this should rattle your memory:

Dear Paul McCartney (from John Lennon),

So Sgt. Pepper took you by surprise
You better see right through that mother's eyes
Those freaks was right when they said you was dead
The one mistake you made was in your head
    Ah, how do you sleep?
Ah, how do you sleep at night?

You live with straights who tell you you was king
Jump when your momma tell you anything
The only thing you done was yesterday
And since you're gone you're just another day
    Ah, how do you sleep?
Ah, how do you sleep at night?

    Ah, how do you sleep?
Ah, how do you sleep at night?

A pretty face may last a year or two
But pretty soon they'll see what you can do
The sound you make is muzak to my ears
You must have learned something in all those years
    Ah, how do you sleep?
Ah, how do you sleep at night?…Paul?

  56. 56

Are all of you at Perezhilton.com illiterate?
It is 'cites' regret, not 'sites'.

  57. 57

it's all love! what band mates don't have issues but love each other dearly at the end of the day… team mccartney - he's right! 100%.

  58. 58

I think that he is trying to say even though John may have said some mean things about him….he chooses to remember the friendship and love they had for each other.

  59. 59

Never was a huge fan of the Beatles, but I'm rather moved by that little visual of John and his glasses… "I love you"
Of COURSE they both said shit about each other… they were friends and bandmates, and you can't spend that much time together without having a few "rows" and saying a bunch of shit.
It sounds as though Paul is in a good place about it, so like someone else said here,
    Fah-get-about it. ;)

  62. 62

I would say horrid things about McCartney, too. He'll never be the man or the legend that John was on his own.
But I agree with sayswho in that I believe them both.

  63. 63

SB "cites" regret, not "sites" regret. LUVS YA!

  64. 64

McCartney's a Gemini…nuff said. And Lennon is a Libra, so he's automatically smarter and more trustworthy than a Gemini. I'm Team Lennon.

  65. 65

I think Paul's an idiot to write off such criticism no matter how dramatic the person is it comes from. People rarely say things they don't mean. They just back pedal when they realize they should have kept their mouth shut to keep the peace.

  66. 66

I believe it, in that same 'newly found' interview that I read about 7 years ago (!), after he slags off McCartney he says the two people he has been closest to in his life were McCartney and Yoko Ono, they were like brothers, Paul would have known him better than anyone (apart from Yoko and Cynthia) so I'd believe him, no doubt about it.

  67. pj88 says – reply to this

    67

There is no doubt in my mind the John love and respected Paul… I think they were both such a creative genious, that sometime the "genious" in them collided.

  68. 68

This reminds me of a video I saw a few years ago of Paul and John discussing stuff in the studio. Paul was going on and on about something and getting really annoying and I lifted my arm up over my head and rolled my eyes to the ceiling…cause personally he was kinda getting on my nerves…
When i looked back at the TV, John Lennon had done exactly the same thing I'd just done. Arm over his head with his eyes looking at the ceiling.
You could see in his eyes that he was fed up with Paul's bullshit.

  69. 69

Some day, I would really like Paul to say: "You know what? Lennon could sometimes be an asshole."

  70. 70

    ……………………………………………….. see ……………..in hevan

  71. 71

Beatles are untouchable! They were like a family, and families have their arguments. Out of the Lennon-McCartney-Starr-Harrison family came genius.

  72. 72

TRUTH. AND A LOVELY MENTAL IMAGE (BOLD LETTERING).

  73. 73

Yeah Paul has a bitchy "look at me, I'm better" personality and John RIP had an "I'm not all that but I can do it too" personality. I believe what John said because I know people who are like Paul.

  74. 74

Re: LadyFalcon – Lennon was honest and Pauls a lier I can tell. Never trust People with a pout lip.

  75. 75

Paul may be somewhat telling the truth… but I still think he's an arrogant douche.

  76. 76

    Re: Sensitivity – Thanks!

  77. 77

I'm sure John had his issues with the rest of the guys for rejecting Yoko's presence and I'm sure there were feuds, but I am also sure there was deep love between them, or Paul wouldn't focus on the positives of their relationship and he certainly wouldn't write songs about their friendship or dedicate songs to him.

  78. 78

Oh and btw what exactly do you bunch of assholes have against McCartney? I assume all of yo knew them both personally? Fucking idiots.

  79. 79

John Lennon was an asshole who pissed off everyone he came in contact with.
