Naughty Houston Teens Get "Sexting" Banned
Houston is catching on to something that Hollywood hasn't yet: Taking nude pictures on your cell phone is bad news.
The city is implementing a new rule stating that "the distribution of nude or semi-nude photographs or videos by text message" is forbidden. They are calling the craze "sexting" and the school system is putting their foot down, for the safety of their students, emotionally and legally.
Hans Graff, assistant general counsel at the Houston Independent School district, realizes that while on one end of the spectrum, the release of nude photographs can be emotionally damaging, it can also lead to criminal punishment: "A student may be sending pictures to their boyfriend and they break up and he sends it to everybody…Any pictures of an underage child could potentially be child pornography and we are not really interested in seeing students punished criminally."
This new rule was put into effect not only because it seemed to be an "issue" within their district, but also an issue affecting the entire nation. A recent study by the National Campaign to Prevent Tee and Unplanned Pregnancy showed that "22 percent of US teenage girls and 18 percent of teenage boys have sent messages or posted images or video online showing them nude or semi-nude. "

There was a case (featured in GQ) about a teen who pretended to be female students, demanded that boys sent him/her naked pics and then blackmailed them into giving him/hisfriend blow jobs and having sex with them. He was convicted.

while i don't agree that it should be made into a law, it doesn't hurt to try to help these girls from making dumbass decisions. i mean, it's going to be as effective as weed being illegal, or it being illegal to smoke under 16. also, how are they going to put this into effect? teachers/law enforcers cannot be allowed to look through students' personal belongings. that's such a violation…

In my brothers class a few years back two girls got into a fight because they both had taken nuddie pics on their mobile and one accused the other of copying her (I believe the pictures then spread around the year group). And what makes it really creepy is that these girls were like 14 at the time…

Speaking from a true Houstonian, how in the hell you gonna make that into a law? But speaking from a high school, you can't blame anyone but the person is posting the pics up. All relationships will sometimes end on a bad note, but the male or female who are receiving the pics should have enough respect for their ex and not be so childish and immature to post any nude or semi nudes. Living here in Houston, we get a little racy and think we can expose certain things, but hey how about the parents get their kids a phone that doesn't have a camera so it can make their life harder to not send naked ones to the b/f or the g/f.

its either you're pretty slow, or the whole of america is heaps slow. australia has been onto sexting for about a year already. it is illegal in australia for people under 18 and people cought witth sext photos on their phones of people under 18 are most likely charged with possession of underage porn. mostly the people who get found out about it are viewing it in school and teachers look through their phone, which is totaly unfair, but it does happen.
america really needs to catch up if its only houston.

Houston isnt the only one doing this, Last year my school had a situation where the girl broke up with her boyfriend and he sent naked pictures of her to everyone. She told the cops, they went through this crazy long tracking of finding out who all recieved and sent the picture,. needless to say one boy who graduated last year is now a sex-offender.. along with a couple of my fellow classmates. This year, they had a police/detective come in and tell us that in the state of ohio senting, receiveing, and possesing naked-oritented footage is a felony in the 2nd degree. so this shit isnt being taken lightly. its just not worth it. people need to learn.
