An American legend, Ted Kennedy, passed away late Tuesday night.

The longtime Senator from Massachusetts and member of the most iconic family in American politics had been bravely battling brain cancer for some time.

Kennedy died at his home in Hyannis Port, Mass.

He was 77 years old.

Making the situation even more tragic, Teddy's beloved sister, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, passed away last week.

The Kennedy family issued the following statement about the politico's passing:

“Edward M. Kennedy – the husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle we loved so deeply – died late Tuesday night at home in Hyannis Port. We’ve lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever. We thank everyone who gave him care and support over this last year, and everyone who stood with him for so many years in his tireless march for progress toward justice, fairness and opportunity for all. He loved this country and devoted his life to serving it. He always believed that our best days were still ahead, but it’s hard to imagine any of them without him.”

Our deepest deepest, most heartfelt condolences to the Kennedy family. May strength find them and firm them up during what may only be described as an extremely painful time.

So sad.

  10. 10

He would have been a legend if he was an adulterer, doing that off-shore drillin with that hoe. R.I.P. still in order I guess.

Wow! What a sad year it has been :(

  17. 17

    good riddance.

  18. 18

it was a long brave fight. He was the last one left of the Kennedy siblings and perhaps the last Kennedy left (or so that's what I heard on the news). So sad especially because it happened so soon after his sister's passing. R.I.P.

  19. 19

RIP Ted Kennedy. The Last Lion of the Senate is gone.

  20. 20

Say what you will about the man..but he was truly for the working class and cared about his constituates of this great state of Massachusetts! RIP.

  21. slite says – reply to this

Not a fan of Ted, but saddened anyway. Lest we forget Mary Joe who he killed, who will not be as mourned as he. Lest we forget his personal vendetta of voting that hs put his state in more debt by size than any single state in the US. Lest we forget his family coming to power by illegal activity, buying the mob, buying his seat because he was considered too stupid to do anything else. Lest we forget his 100% voting record against anything proposed by anyone other than the most left of his party. Lest we forget his blatant changing of state rules to prohibit the then governor to pick a replacement for John Kerry should he win the Precidency and then his ongoing campaign to overturn his own law to suit the fact that he was dying so the now Democrat governor could put a Democrat in his place.

Lest we forget these things? I think not.

I am still sad, but whatever his God, he will be judged as he was no hero of the common man. He was a self serving alcoholic who used his power to allow his family to do whatever they wanted.

He got away with murder and rape more than once in his lifetime…Lest he be judged now.

All that said, sad sad sad.

remember mary joe and his other victims.

  22. 22

    RIP Ted Kennedy.
This family has had so much sorrow.
At least he's with all of those that went before him.

  23. 23

I was pleasantly surprised by the kind replies — used to this in Europe but not here in America where people talk ugly. Was nice.
FUC@ YOU, NUMBER 17, lisafayeIisanidiot — you ignorant wench

Re: itis – You said it! It started with the death of my close friend suddenly/unexpectedly in March..he started this "roll call" of death I joke to him when I talk to him..

  25. 25

Hooray! The drunken killer is dead! Pop the champagne!

Mary Jo can rest in peace!

I hope Teddy's last minutes were agony and his head exploded!

I just hope that Satan steps up the torment and agony department for Teddy "The Liberal Lion" and sticks him in the worst sulphur pit in hell!

He was a drunken scumbag killer and should have been tried for murder!

  26. 26

    The last great lion…..RIP Teddy

  27. 27

Bummer! But what an incredible life he lead!

  28. 28

it's hard to imagine modern america without the kennedy legacy . . . hopefully, we can keep the spirit of this legacies desire to create opportunity and equality for all alive. we've lost our way a bit, but i will always believe that there is hope.

  36. 36

Can the Kennedy family get a break? Theire family has been absolutely tormented by tragedy after tragedy. I suppose in the end this is what was best as Senator Kennedy was not going to survive, but still this is all very sad for the family.

  37. 37

    Where is Mary Jo?????
    Where is Mary Jo?????
    Where is Mary Jo?????
    Where is Mary Jo?????

  38. 38

RIP Ted Kennedy, you will be dearly missed.

  39. 39

    R.I.P Ted
This has been a horrible year of losses and I pray that the world doesn't have to mourn the lost of anymore wonderful people whose only mission was to help others.

  40. 40

I meant he was an adulterer. He was also a murderer. Not the best person but none of the Kennedy's were.

  41. 41

who cares? perez you are one lame ass person. get a life.

  42. 42

    R.I.P. Senator….

  43. Laury says – reply to this

Well considering the tragic history of his family, I'd say Ted was lucky to make it to 77. Still pretty sad though. RIP Mr. Kennedy.

  44. 44

  45. 45

Ted was a drunk and a murderer. He is now paying the price for crashing his car in a lake and letting Mary die. FUCK YOU Ted

  46. 46

Seriously it's funny how everyone is so, "oh, the poor Kennedys" "he was a good man"…Where the hell have you people been? The Kennedys are one of the most corrupt families in America. Murder, adulterous affairs, mob ties, etc. The tragedy that the family has seen was brought on by bad choices and bad associations.

  47. 47

MJ fan59 - Hahahaha "only mission was to help others"????? Maybe he should have helped the woman who he DROWNED when he drunkenly crashed his car off a bridge. I mean, at least tried! But the evil fucker booked it and was put in jail with barely a slap on the wrist. He disgusts me and no good deed he did after that will make up for what he did.

  48. 48

    Rest In heaven.

  49. 49

Say "hi" to Mary Jo! Is Joan still wandering the streets drunk or did she pass too? So many lives "allegedly" ruined by one family.

  50. 50

  51. 51

Re: dirty_couture – And your claim to fame will be the fact that you are talking about a man who has passed and is obviously apart of a family with a legacy that will last wayyy longer then your ignorant comments. Just remember… Let him without sin cast the first stone.

  52. 52

    RIP : (

  53. 53

Re: sabrinajoy – You took the words right out of my mouth. No family should have to do back to back unexpected funerals like that. This is really surreal and another sign that history has changed again.

This is really sad. DAMN YOU CANCER!!!!
    RIP Mr. Kennedy

  58. 58

Edward M. Kennedy – the husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle we loved so deeply – died late Tuesday night at home in Hyannis Port.. They Forgot To Add Murderer Adultery Liar Treasin (Reagan) Etc.. Good Riddance ! Lion ..? He Is The Epitome Of Bad Politics & Misuse Of Power

1 Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul. 2 O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. 3 Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause. 4 Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. 5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. 6 Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old. 7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O LORD.

Keep with reall gossip eg Katie price and paris Hilton

  69. 69

One of the funniest things I ever saw in print was in a 1972 issue of National Lampoon. A full-page replica of a Volkswagon ad showing a Beetle floating in a lake. The text of the ad read, "If Teddy Kennedy had driven a Volkswagon, he'd be President"

  70. 70

Re: stonesfan – WOW, that is classic, thank you

  71. 71

Wow….the death of a true giant in our political history.
God Bless and prayers to the Kennedy family.

Re: Alaska91 I was pleasantly surprised by the kind replies — used to this in Europe but not here in America where people talk ugly.

Uh, you need to hang out on some Euro boards sometime if you think Europeans don't give ugly replies. This pretentious exaggeration that Europe is somehow more "advanced" and "better mannered" is complete bullocks. You have just as many trashy people as the US does. Stop pretending otherwise. It does you no service.

  75. 75

awwww thats so sad! i dont know him, but as i read this i felt really upset by this..
too many good people have died this year.. :(
    R.I.P Mr. Edward M. Kennedy

  76. 76

that is too bad. Good picture of him here though, the way he should be remembered.

  77. 77

    Life is a Bitch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

During the final few days of the Bush Administration, the song was used as something of an unofficial anthem by critics of President Bush, anxious to see him leave office; it was also featured in humorous segments on both The Rachel Maddow Show and Countdown with Keith Olbermann, discussing Bush's departure of office, as well as a number of parodies on YouTube.
On November 4, 2008, after Barack Obama clinched victory in the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election, Obama supporters gathered outside the White House and chanted the song, a reference to then President George W. Bush's tenure coming to an end.
On January 20, 2009, after the 2009 Inauguration of President Barack Obama, some members of the crowd outside the Capitol (which had been estimated at two million people at its peak) began singing the song when Bush appeared on the Jumbotron screens and as the helicopter lifted off carrying the former President George W. Bush home to Texas

na na na na na na na na, hey hey goodbye

  79. 79

Re: KEVINB – The man worked hard from that day forward to save lives and make life better for so many Americans! If you REALLY knew what Teddy has done in his life you would understand he never took her death lightly!

  80. 80

Not feelin' the sadness. TOUCHE #74. Fuck this asswad - he lived a long life, while he let his young mistress drown so people wouldn't know he had an affair. God forbid we'd be without a Kennedy in the White House. No Camelot bullshit anymore. Wait - there's Arnold & Maria of "Caulifornya" In case you haven't noticed. . . there's a revolution brewin' over this health care nonsense and MUCH, MUCH MORE!

  81. 81

Perhaps this is rude, but I simply can't understand how I'm supposed to feel sorry for a man who killed his mistress.

  82. 82

he was a human parasite that did a lot of damage to toher people in his life. dont forget that he murdered mary jo kopechne and never even apologized. what a loser and a coward. he also did a lot of damage to the country as a senator. thank god this human garbage is gone. now he can rot in hell and mary jo can rest in peace

  83. 83

zure wouldn't want 2/get ztuck on
    a dezerted island w/him☻

  87. 87

Say what you will, but Ted Kennedy was a servant of the people. If you've ever studied your Kennedy Family history, the patriarch was a power hungry dick, but the matriarch raised her children to use their entitlement for the betterment of the common folk. Yeah they've stumbled … big … any number of times … but get off your leftist or rightist high horses and give the man his due. Can't America for a few minutes get over its partisanship? The guy was a public servant for the American people for all his adult life, warts and all, and he served us well. At least respect that. R.I.P. Ted

  88. 88

    Re: fly a kite
He's not the last kennedy…he has living children

  89. 89

I guess Satan wanted one of his Lieutenants back.

  91. Auj says – reply to this

Thanks Perez for your tribute. You are so classy.

  92. 92

Too bad people didn't care half as much when he murdered Mary Jo Kopechnne.
Now that is what I call tragic. Ted Kennedy was not a good man when he was living so lets not change history.

  93. 93

I met him once–great guy. RIP

  94. 94

R.I.P nothing. Ted will no be missed. He KILLED not only a woman, but a baby at that. She was PREGNANT when she drowned. AND she was Kennedy's "girlfriend", when he had a WIFE at the time. I say good riddance to the scum. He did nothing for the economy or the US in general, except give us all something to talk about.

  95. 95

A very good synopsis of Ted Kennedy's place in his family politics and in American politics was done as a picture narrative in the Washington Post. www . washingtonpost . com. It gives a very good history of what this man has done for his country. He served us all very well. Rest in peace, Senator.

  96. 96

I love the Kennedys. Im soo sorry for the family, such a loss.

  97. 97

    Re: slite
    Amen to that.

  98. 98

This dude was the biggest whoremonger that ever lived……but I guess when some politico dies, everyone pretends to forget and chooses to remember only the good they've done. 2nd to the last of the Kennedy's that were once soooo powerful….wow, no one can defy death though. Enjoy the flames!

  99. 99

Re: DogTown – Is that why he saved his own skin and left her to die like a piece of roadkill?
