Soul Train Chugging Into Theaters!

Funky!
Warner Bros. has commissioned Malcolm Spellman to write a feature based on the classic TV dance show Soul Train.
The film will be set in the 1980s and Don Cornelius, the host and producer the original show that spanned 35 years, will serve as one of the producers.
"All of the hip-hop street dances you see today were born during that time period and were first seen on that show, and I remember doing all of them when I was a kid," said Spellman.
The main character will be from the streets of El Lay and his ticket out is his gift for "popping," a street dance that became popular during that time. He will become a member of a touring company featuring singers and dancers revolutionary to the period.
"This guy is a serious popper, with street edge, and he wants to get on that tour, with the hottest of the hot," continued Spellman of his protagonist. "Writing with Don involved is quite an experience. He's still the godfather of cool."
Will U hop on board?!
If it's cheesy fun, this could be a nice and funny nostalgic hit. Think Breakin'!

Wooo Hoooo… wonder if Don is still wearing those slick, funky ties. You remember those Karen?
I love soul train. I like watching old clips on youtube and the best is during the 70s/early 80s when people had Afros and later moved on to Jerri Curl.
funky?..no perez, no.
Sounds pretty cool. I remember the "SOULTRAIN" back in the late 80's as a kid. I remember feelin like it looked soo dope.
how very PC of you to put a positive spin on what seems to be a total piece of crap! Just because it's black doesn't mean you can say it sounds like a bomb!
It will be good if they tell the truth in the movie (rare). Soul Train started in Chicago in the early 70s. It was shot in a one room studio on Channel 26 (UHF). It was in black and white and Don Cornelius was the host. He kept it on in Chicago for a while even after got a big deal in Cali and Clinton Gent became the host. You can see old clips of the early California shows on Youtube, but if you really want to giggle the black and whites have got to be funnier. There were 1 or 2 cameramen and every was trying to get in a shot. The Soul Train line was the highlight of the show and Johnson Products and AfroSheen may have been a sponsor. The musical guests were more local. Most people are not really aware of the shows history. They think it started in sunny LA but it was the city streets of the Windy City. My cousin used to wonder how my mother knew he was cutting school and she would tell him "fool I saw you coming down the Soul Train line on TV.
Soul Train reruns from the 80s used to come on Late Saturday Nights and I used to love watching it. Even if this movies will be a little cheesy and it will still be fun and the Fashion…
Haha! I still see Soul Train reruns on an obscure channel. I know they hand picked the audience/dancers, but there were no overweight kids (no computers or video games) and the skinny were skinnier, the fit were fitter, and the heavier ones looked and danced like athletes (think the Williams sisters).
This is something I could definitely get behind. Soul Train was awesome!
Will the cast have the chick with the really long hair?
