      Where have you been?

If the studios and cable companies were smart they would lower the price for OnDemand new movies to $1 from $4.99 and just blow these DVD Kiosk chains out of the water.

This is an excellent and timely concept.

i love redbox! theres one in front of my grocery store. for $1 i cant believe ppl still use the blockbuster across the street.

you rent it, & have till 9 the next night to return it. so reasonable, cuz if you rent a dvd & need it for 4 days, just buy it!

I read the article….what does this mean….. "Some including Universal, Fox and Warner Bros. have sought to stem the supply of DVDs to dollar-rental companies, while Sony, Lionsgate and Paramount recently struck deals with Redbox to secure a pledge eliminating the company's practice of reselling older titles on the used-disc market."
Does that mean they both are trying to stop Redbox from renting their films?

Re: nicegal29 – The studios want to force Redbox to wait 30 days after a DVD is released for sale before renting it

3.99 vs. .99? No shit they're going up.

The "Red Box" DVD's for $1, can't beat it

Damn! I thought you meant literally blowing up, fire and smoke, destruction all around. THAT would be fun to watch!

Rather to NETFLIX. it will cost me more to go find a redbox than to walk down to my mailbox and oh look a movie. but i guess if you lived near one ok.

I love RedBox! It is totally going to put Blockbuster and all those other $3.99 per movie places out of Business!
I rented Twilight from Redbox, and I'm glad I didn't waste a buck on it!
      Redbox for the win!

Well I know that technology will always go forward (cars replacing horses, internet putting newspapers outta business, walmart killing small business) but I own a small dvd/game rental store and suppose redbox will put me out of business. We do a lot of business in older titles and our members (3000+) enjoy talking about movies and getting reccomendations. Also- we get a lot of positive feedback on how we contantly buff our discs so they won't have problems viewing them. I guess good old customer service is being replaced by $1 convenience. It's inevitable but it still makes me sad.

Re: Movies and more – I hope your business does well. I worked for a DVD/music/game/book distributor for several years, but was recently laid of due to downsizing. People aren't buying anymore. Lot of the reasons/complaints were because of Redbox, Netflix, Gamefly, online downloads, etc. I don't have one rental store anywhere near my house. Even our local (rather large) chain grocery store just ditched all the DVD and game rentals they were doing. And guess what is now located out in front of all the grocery stores? Yup, Redbox.
I'm glad I'm not that big into renting anymore.

Re: PreyToYou – Thx Prey- it's such a nice little store too. Seems as though technology is replacing character. Well at least i didnt quit my day job. I'm either going to have a great dvd collection OR a really good going out of business sale :-P
