Lifetime Can't Withstand Its Name; A&E Buys Them Out

aenetwork.jpg

Wow.

We received news this afternoon that A&E Television is in the process of acquiring the Lifetime Network.

The deal is said to be closing by the end of this year, but no other details were released.

This means yet another network move for our beloved Project Runway. Hopefully, they don't do anything stoopid, like put in on the History Channel!

More likely than not, Lifetime will retain its own entity and just fall under the A&E family umbrella.

Inneresting move, though!

Much of this also involves reconfiguring the existing network partnerships that will eventually see NBC Universal, a minority partner in A&E Networks, ending this cable network relationship, sources said.

Currently, Walt Disney/Hearst/NBC Universal are partners for A&E Networks and Walt Disney/Hearst for Lifetime Networks.

Walt Disney and Hearst each had a 37.5% stake in A&E Networks, and NBC had 25%. For Lifetime Networks, Disney and Hearst were 50-50 partners.

As relates to Project Runway it's interesting to note Bravo's connection to NBC Univ as well as A&E's connection to NBC Univ….media clusterfuck leaves Weinstein spent.

nothing is going to change on Lifetime. No shows are going anywhere, and Lifetime is maintaining itself as it's own network. They are just now owned by A&E and NBC/Uni. There may be more reality shows on Lifetime as A&E really has it's hands in the reality pot, but otherwise, things should stay relatively the same.
