Yet Another Remake

Seriously, what's with all the recent remakes and sequels? That definitely seems to be the trend with Rob Zombie.

The musician director has done Halloween and Halloween II - and now he's just signed on for another remake.

The rocker will be writing, directing, and producing a remake of the 1958 horror flick The Blob.

Why?!?!

The original film is about an alien who lands in a small town and absorbs humans with its red blob of jelly as it grows in size and destroys the town. But Zombie wants to take it in a new direction though.

He says, "My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing — that's the first thing I want to change. That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now. I'd been looking to break out of the horror genre, and this really is a science fiction movie about a thing from outer space. I intend to make it scary, and the great thing is I have the freedom once again to take it in any crazy direction I want to."

Production is set to begin next spring and will reportedly have $30 million in funding.

What do U think? Will U watch???

He doesn't want a red blob thing? Then why was it called the BLOB, genius?

sweetie…congrats on your first starring role.

    3. 3

Rob Zombie must stop making crap. He'll run out of funds eventually. At least he saves money by casting his stripper wife in every movie.

    4. 4

      He's retrohorror. Get over it.

    5. 5

I watched the first blob when I was about 6 and scared the hell out of me…

Do not want to see what Rob Zombie does with it..at all x

    6. 6

      rob zombie, FUCK OFF!!!!

    7. 7

      hell yes!!

    8. 8

This is hilarious for two reasons:

      1. A Zombie is making a film about a Blob.

      2. The original starred Steve McQueen

    9. 9

I thought the last remake was pretty scary, especially the way the people died. It was pretty sick.

I live in one of the towns that the Blob was filmed in. We have a huge Blob fest every year (happens to also be the town that M. Night Shyamalan filmed his last film in as well). A new Blob just wouldn't work. The great thing about it is the kitschiness involved. How does one recreate that??

To sophisticated sci-fi 2009 movie audiences, watching the 50's version of The Blob would be like watching golf (sorry, buffs) or paint dry. A fictional celluloid (digital) investigation of alien on earth idea is an idea that I believe would enrapture audiences anytime, given a decent budget and dedicated movie crew. The possibilities are endless. There's a massive ufo disclosure audience courtesy of the net, and if current alien consipiracy theories and Sumerian theologies were interwoven by some savvy writers, it could take the movie where I believe audiences wanted the X-files to go. Can Zombie land such a budget? Go, Rob.

      rob zombie is amazing

    13. 13

I EFFING LOVE Rob Zombie!!!!! Seen him too many times to count in concert!

    14. 14

This will be the second remake. Hollywood has no other ideas….really?

    15. 15

btw.. sucks he wont be on tour again in awhile.. he'll be too damn busy.. UGH!!

    16. 16

I LOVE ROB ZOMBIE.. and i thought it was his daughter in the movies not his wife… he did awesome in all the films I saw house of 100 corpses - devils rejects. halloween I and now II.. cant wait for the blob.. hes sick in a twisted horror way LOVE IT

    17. 17

      GGGAAAAAYYYYY

    18. 18

      here we go again!!!!!!!!!!!!! .-.

    19. 19

hell yeah his remake on halloween was more like an extreme makeover then a remake it was freaking kick ass, wild zombies couldnt drag me away from seeing what he dose with it !

    20. 20

First off it can't be the BLOB without a Blob! That's just retarded and I actually like Rob Zombie's work! Secondly, The Blob has been remade already!! It was redone in the 80s-90s (not sure of the exact year) and it was a total snorefest!!

    21. 21

My friend and I were just laughing at this silly blob movie the other day, now a remake??? LOOOL

    22. 22

Uh, HELLO?? There was already a remake of The Blob in the 80's, and it is excellent!! Does anybody have their own imagination anymore, or have all the stories in the world been told?

    23. 23

Whoo! I'd love to see any and all remakes of The Blob.

    24. 24

The 1988 remake of the 1958 classic was actually pretty good.

I'd advise Mr. Zombie to wait another 10 years before (endlessly) rebooting this particular franchise.

    25. 25

The first movie sucked ass why make a remake of it. Hollywood needs to get some original ideas.

    26. 26

I hope he does a better job with this than he did with Halloween. That movie was just awful.

    27. 27

I remember them showing this movie in the 70's when I was a kid.
It scared the crap out of me. Of course now it would just be cheesy.
He will probably do it up a little more I'm sure.

    28. 28

First horror movie I ever watched when I was a kid! Brilliant film and the low tech special effects just made it more frightening. In fact it scared the shit out of me!! Why remake this classic AGAIN? For heaven's sake NO one can replace Steve McQueen. Remakes = barf!

    29. 29

yes i will watch it, JUST because its from the 50s:)

    30. 30

The remake from the 80s was actually really good. Hollywood has resorted to making sequels of remakes and remakes of remakes now. Good God.

    31. 31

WTF?! First of all, there was *already* a re-make of this in the 80's. Secondly, how can you make "the blob" WITHOUT a blob?!?!? What would be the point?!

    32. 32

seriously…they can stop now. Who are they gonna put in this, Slutty Cyrus?? The remaking's getting stupid

    33. 33

Good grief! The murder Kennedy hasn't begining to rot and they are making a movie about this fat slob already???????

    34. 34

Oh God Rob Zombie is awful. All his movies have the same tired trend of Sheri Moon's bad acting, Cursing and White Trashyness.

    35. 35

The remake from the 80's was effectively gross and, to my then 11 year old mind, quite scary. Super creepy ending too, with that wacked out religious nut. I'm not a fan of Rob Zombie's movies, but I'd go see this out of curiosity.

    36. 36

Oh great…Now they're making remakes of REMAKES. They already had one in the late 80's that starred a young (pre- "Saw") Shawnee Smith.

      This is ridiculous.

      37

Somebody should do the sequel to The Thing. That movie scared the crap out of me.

    38. 38

This was ALREADY remade in the 80's! I thought it was good too. It had one of the Dillon's in it

    39. 39

      wtf rob zombie rules

    40. 40

Sometimes people realize their dream and you think "Errr….hum-k….that was…your dream??". And so I guess Rob is realzing his dreams for what it's worth. Good for him.

    41. 41

this is just a joke at this point. Rob Zombie must seriously go back to music (what he was actually good at) and leave the movies making to the big boys. The Halloween remake/reboot/tragedy was just painful to watch. I loved the franchise and I feel HE ruined it. I would run from Micheal Myers back then, now I would throw him a Budwiser and some Oxycontin and laugh in his face as I watch him get wasted. Add in a hooker or 2 and Rob Zombie has Halloween 3. This is just retarded. Interesting idea with Crap NO Talent behind it. Surely this will flop.

    42. 42

Maybe but how does one have a movie called the blob without the blob….hmmm well It's rob zombie I'm sure it will turn into something crazy….I haven't been well since I saw house of a 1000 corpses that man is messed thats all I can say.

    43. 43

Mario, how did you talk R.Zombie into letting you be "The Blob"?

    44. 44

Wasn't there another remake before hand? I was little when I watched it but I think it was good (i tend to question my taste from when I was little lol)

Re: Hate Low Class People – Good God, man, Kennedy redeemed himself a thousand times over. Forgiveness exists. If you can't find it, I wish you good luck in your life. You're going to need it.

    46. 46

      HEY ROB!!

IF IT'S NOT A BIG RED BLOBBY THING…THEN IT'S NOT A REMAKE OF THE BLOB!

      IDIOT.

    47. 47

Stop ruining the classics Mr. Zombie!! People like the classics for what they are.

Make up your own shit, and leave the classics alone!!!!!!!!!

    48. 48

I just hope that this move doesn't involve strippers or some kind of horny teenagers… Oh, wait.

    49. 49

Re: @v@ stupidly writes: Kennedy redeemed himself – No matter now much 'good' this pig did he was still a murderer and a sexual predator. Have you been reading the news articles about Kennedy and Dodd assaulting a waitress? Oh wait, the pig redeemed himself, so it is ok that he killed a girl and tried to assault another one. Even the Pope has not weighed in on the great works of the murderer much to the chagrin of the family and Kennedy's worshipers.

    50. 50

odcourse he can change the story, the owner for the rights died. LOL!

    51. 51

I think i know how he is going to re do the "blob" it's self but im keeping that a secret ;) Im really looking forward to this movie. Rob is a great director and person.
and if you read it correctly it does not say he is going to not have a blob in the film he is just not going to have "big red blobby thing"

He wants to majorly change how the blob looks NOT get rid of it all together. come on people this is the USA you should all know how to read correctly.

    52. 52

all you fucking post is mind numbingly dull shit

    53. 53

Enough with the re-makes. Let's have some more original movies like Districtm 9 pls.

    54. 54

      Halloween II sucked

    55. 55

Umm… big red blobby thing. Without it, what would be the point of a remake?

    56. @v@ says – reply to this

      56

Re: Hate Low Class People – I see you still have absolutely no real comprehension with regard to the meaning of forgiveness. Who is the stupid one? I don't disagree with you on everything you write. Shrugs.

    57. 57

Hellz yeah Im gonna see it I love all his movies and I really hope he puts his wife Sherry moon in it too because she is wonderful!!!!! Keep up the good work Rob!!!!

    58. 58

NOOOOOO! Someone needs to slap this asshole in the face and tell his ass to STOP RUINING MOVIES! Is it that fucking hard to come up with an original idea?! The original Blob was great, the one with Kevin Dillion….terrible. The Rob Zombie version will surely have some lame ass black blob with loads of nudity, his shitty actress wife and a tanked story line. Dude needs to do us a favor and STOP.

    59. 59

Goodlord !! Why does Rob Zombie have to ruin ANOTHER good movie ? Blob was redone in the Late 80's and it was good. What can he do to make this one better ? Add another White trash family to it and make it about a slime growing in a mobile home park ?
He has ZERO original ideas. He stole from Texas Chain Saw massacre for his "hillbillies" gone wild in ALL of his movies. He is a one trick pony that should be put out to pasture. He has 5 minute scenes with a good idea then strings them together with 30 minutes of pointless BS. Halloween and H II SUCK ASS !! he killed all the mystery and Demonic ways of Micheal Myers. Instead he is just a fucked up White Trash kid into masks.. Please go away already and take your hack ass movies with you.. Stick to music..

    60. 60

They should get Steve Mc Queens grandson to do the lead.

    61. 61

i look forward to seeing it. zombie always produces classics

    62. 62

There was already a remake of this movie. How many remakes does a B-film need?
