Recent Breakup With Girlfriend Left DJ AM "Completely Devastated"

Sources believe DJ AM's recent breakup with his girlfriend, Hayley Wood, coupled with the post-traumatic stress from his September '08 plane crash may have triggered the former addict to use.
AM was said to be "completely devastated" when Wood ended the relationship last week.
The DJ was sober for nine years before being found in his NY apartment from an alleged overdose on Friday afternoon, which goes to show how incredibly harrowing a disease addiction is.
Our thoughts continue to go out to AM's family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

So sorry.
That's so sad after everything he's been through in the past year.
RIP AM
yeah…
wow :// after that crash he dies like that…its just wow
rip
Poor guy!
RIP
very…very sad. his gf was like 22 years old. RIP DJ AM
You should try overdosing, fat-ass!
so sad R.I.P DJ AM
…this is the saddest news that I have heard in a long time. The man was sober for 9 years and had a weak moment. He is now gone. RIP
SO SAD RIP DJ AM
Oh boo hoo! so a girl broke up with you so that excuses you to be a fucking moron and end your life? please…these people are thoughtless and weak…good riddance.
sober for 'nine years'…? is that accurate?
I read somewhere, Im not sure if it were a comment here, or some place else. Someone wrote, that its the people that are actually using their lives to do good in the world that die early, leaving the ones that are doing nothing for no one here to live full lives. With this week that past, we've lost some incredible souls. To me, its not the fact that someone died that gets me, its the fact that these people were doing something with their lives to help others. Its always sad when someone dies, but its worst when you know that we lost a key in life that couldve open some great doors in the future. Michael Jackson, Dj AM, Kennedy, etc. All these men were loved not only for their talents, but their contribution to the world. You might say that Musicians arnt nothing big. But think of this. Whenever a country is taken over by a dictator or someone that means to suppress the people. Music, art, and press are always the first freedoms to be taken away and denied. As we mourn for these people and their families we are reminded of people like Perez that somehow manage to get some sort of influence in life, and are not doing nothing productive for mankind, except take up valuable space. I hate to say and ask this, but does anyone here honestly feel that there would be any good words said about him, if Perez were to expire early in life? Take that to heart. Men and women should be remembered for their positive contributions in life. Not drawing cum on photos, and trashing others.
I think its ironic that this happened just as the new final destination movie comes out. he escapes a fiery plane wreck, cheating death then OD's on crack…
Unfortunately addicts who, when they relapse, use amounts of the drug they were tolerant of before they quit and therefore overdose. RIP DJ AM.
Being a recovering heroin addict myself, I can honestly say that there's no way that this was just out of the blue. I'm willing to bet that once toxicology reports are released, it will show that DJ AM was probably using for awhile prior to his unfortunate overdose death. And yes, addiction is a horrible, horrible, horrible disease. While some might say that addiction is about will power more than anything, the truth is, there is no way to describe the disease of addiction because it's symptoms are like no other.
I agree with you about how harrowing addiction can be. No why don't you be a little more compassionate about some of these stars that are actively using? I am sure thay are going through a lot more than you know. Are you going to be as empathetic if they overdose? It tooks me 22 years to get over my addiction(s) and I am still just one drink, hit, snort, etc. away from getting back into the same trap. I pray I hold on to the life I have lived in the last 4 years of being clean and sober. It is a gift and everyone does not accept it readily because they are not ready.
RIP DJ! Prayers to the family.
For most celebrity deaths, it's something interesting to comment on, or sometimes somewhat sad, but not much more for me. This one, I am much more upset about. He just seemed like a much more down to earth, normal kid, that had a bad year this last one, and couldn't handle this recent breakup. He made a decision while in the midst of depression, and apparently it killed him. It's just really, really sad. I feel horrible for his family. They were probably so thankful for his life and safety after that plane crash and now he's been taken from them a year later. I'm sure it's just devastating for them.
aww, that is so sad
RIP this is such sad news…my prayers are with the family and friends
that is really sad. man. breakups cause people to do crazy things. and to know he was going to have a show where he was going to help people overcome their addiction to drugs. sad.
RIP.
And perez, I'm sorry you lost your friend. Maybe now you can see that addiction is not something to joke about and back off Amy Whinehouse, Lindsay, Doherty, etc. I'm not saying these people aren't idiots. I'm not saying you shouldn't write that they are addicts, but do it without the snark. Addiction is not funny, it's a deadly disease. Stick to making fun of people's bad fashion choices/bad music and simply report on Lindsay's latest cokedout night.
This is one hot picture of him. Never knew he was so sexy. Can see in his eyes/body language needed a lot of help, not quick enough obviously. Upsetting.
I doubt this guy was clean all this time and it finally caught up to him. That Hollywood life seems so miserable and plastic. He died alone and for days no one notice…goes to show you that having all the fame in the world doesn't help in the end
Re: laidback –
You do realize Michael Jackson abused kids and Ted Kennedy drove off a bridge and left a poor woman to die. Nice role models! It is sad that DJ AM's demons came back despite getting a second chance at life after the plane crash.
First…..on the Dirty.com, They reported that yesterday.
Re: Really8Perez – You should really be ashamed of yourself. What an immature, insensitive thing to say.
Thats so sad…
how sad
you always think there will never be anyone else when you break up with someone, but that's not true. he just left his parents, siblings??, friends, family heartbroken…
truly sad. i really hope people think about this more & more & more & more.. how many more must we lose to drugs?? if you know sum1 who needs help, please slap them & tell them to get the help, we don't want to lose any more people.. it's serious folks.
Please it is sad that that anyone should die so young wether it is Michael Jackson, This dude, but they were adults and made choices. And some of them thay got snagged by
For once, I agree with you, Perez. Drug addiction is a disease. A deadly one, for some. That's why you should never make fun or dump shit on people because they are struggling with it. Get it, bully?
Re: karencarpenter – Re: Paris France – this site is so sad today, its all death
Re: laidback –
well said
she must feel awful
who cares??? Seriously, this guy did nothing for the world besides play records, take massive amts of drugs and date hollywood d-list whores. I'm sure the world is in mourning.
Still in shock…so freaking sad. His skills brought so much happiness.
ONE BLOCK FROM WHERE HEATH LEDGER DIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who in the HELL is he to get such press?! As a human being, I mourn his passing just as I'd mourn any stranger's passing. BUT THIS GUY IS A NOBODY!! He isn't Ted Kennedy (whether or not you beilve in Kennedy's politics you can salute the man for his efforts on the part of humanity).
.
BUT WHAT THE HELL HAS THIS DJ AM DONE TO BETTER SOCIETY?? Why is he getting so much press?!
My heart goes out to the ex girlfriend who is going to have to live with the guilt everyone is going to put on her if he did indeed die because of the breakup…. suicide is a very self indulgent act that doesn't allow any consideration for the broken lives it leaves behind. It's a shame he didn't seek help for his pain…. with time, all things work themselves out, you just have to hang in there through the bad times. Surviving the bad times are what make the good times taste that much sweeter.
Re: JigSaw – Hi There Sweet thing..
Ahhh, so this is Hayleys fault. Thanks for the heads up.
Re: disko2k – lol
Re: JigSaw – Hi Jig! I know but this too shall pass. I hope you're having a good day! MUAH!
#35 and #38, I completely agree with you. An important death occured this week and it wasn't DJ AM's. This guy getting acclamade for being a druggy and playing music? Come on!! Gimme a fucking break. What the fuck did he do to change the world? Hmmm? Nothing. The dude overdosed like a fucking loser and now everybody's supposed to feel sorry for him? Sorry. I used to be a druggy and it was stupid and selfish. I stopped feeling sorry for myself a long time ago and decided to grow up (something DJ AM and his pathetic, plastic life obviously didn't do). So you want sympathy and condolensce, sorry, not here, I'm giving it to Senator Kennedy; a man who impacted the world in a meaningful, positive way. You kids have a lot to learn as to who you should feel sorry for in this life. I pity the future.
You're just parroting what you read off of T-M-Z and the NY Post.
wow that is so crazy. i do send my prayers to his family, and really hope it was accidental.
Wow, now who's going to play the ipod?
It's not about what he did or didn't do to change the world. Just because he wasn't some worldly humanitarian doesn't mean he didn't do good things - he's got a new show coming out on MTV about addiction. That's a good deed in my book - the more attention that is brought to the fact that addiction is a DEADLY disease the better off we will all be. If you don't know someone close to you now who is an addict and or alcoholic - it's only a matter of time before you will! We need people out there spreading the word and educating not just addicts but the family and friends of addicts on how to deal with this disease. If that's not important to you now - its only because you've been lucky thus far to not have to deal with addiction and again it's only a matter of time before you will. We all know someone dealing with addiction and when it finally hits you - your perspective will change.
He will be missed - I just saw him spin in vegas in March, he was an amazing DJ
So sad, but thanks for listing how long he was clean for all these morons on here saying negativ things about him being an addict have no idea of his struggle, which is why this is tragic.
Well almost 40 year olds should not date almost 20 year olds and think it will lead to something.
His disease wasnt addiction. Extreme depression is what killed him. He was deeply depressed over the accident & his girl friend could not handle that. Not her fault, but she must feel awful. If you get that depressed, please seek help. Even if it means going to a hospital & telling someone you want to hurt yourself. I have been there & some great Doctors & a wonderfull wife saved my life. Let his passing be a message to those in pain. You can get better, your way better off alive.
RIP Senator Kennedy
Why don't you be the asshole you usually are Perez and blab about what drugz he OD'd on like you do w/ MJ?
I KNOW WE are all different with different reactions to things. However….if i had been lucky enough to make it ALIVE after a goddamned PLANE CRASH, I would cherish every day and keep drugs and bitches out of my life. Just daily LIFE, given a second chance would inspire me. He made a very wrong decision, bless his heart. I wish he'd got depression medication (which I am familiar with) instead and good support around him.
Re: BellaM – Bella M–that was an ugly statement. All kinds of people date people much younger. Some of them last for decades or until death. A MASSIVE number of 20-somethings together never work out. Too much immaturity and whoring.
Re: Really8Perez – You guys are fucking idiots, and are some ungrateful motherfuckers. There is a reason why musicians make money. Its not because they have six pack abs, or breasts and hips. Its because, for some. I will not mention who, but for some… They impact us through their voices, lyrics, and/or rhythm. Who cares? Obviously plenty people do, that knew him. He wasnt some ass the we would never meet. He was a person that went into a club, where a guy or girl just came off of a hard week of work, studying and forgot about all their problems for those few hours. Music is magic, and powerful. Its not only some fucking business or commodity. Its life. You fuckers know that there is a musician or band that you love, and you know you would ball your fucking eyes out if they were to die. He was a drug user? WOW. Hes human. He was depressed. Just because he was famous and rich doesnt mean he is impervious to being a man.
shit! i didn't realize he had died when i first read it. (nice wording poorez, do better next time you sloth!) poor guy…
How awful. I hope his ex-girlfriend doesn't blame herself…
I serriously doubt he was sober for that long..
People confuse desire with love. The "love" people for their flesh and stupid bodies. Then they get depressed over loosing that flesh. Stupid.
Hahahahahaha. He sucked.
addiction is not a disease, it's a choice and a matter of will power, or lack there of. i am a former meth addict and reading comments from people who are using the term "disease" as a cop-out make me sick…ESPECIALLY those of you who are or were drug addicts. cancer is a disease, aids is a disease, addiciton is in no way shape or form a disease. stop making excuses and take responsibility for your own ignorant choices/actions.
Uhh how do you know he was clean for nine years? Lots of addicts say they're clean all the time. He's really "thought to be clean for 9 years". You can live with someone and not know they're using if they're good enough at being a sneak. By the way making your crack money by exploiting addicted kids on tv which would probably help their case not at all… PURE CLASS.
Also, c'mon! He was that broken up over a relationship that barely lasted the amount of time a woman carries a baby? Cause really, if that was too much to handle, this dude didn't have a chance anyway.
Great, for the rest of her life, this chick going to feel like a bucket of shit
Re: Bushwack – he really is only getting press here if you can call that press. i kinda agree its sad that anyone dies, but some are going a bit overboard for a guy who spun records at partys.
Nice one Hayley Wood.. really flipping nice… yeah, I know you're reading this.. o well, just don't take it to seriously and kill yourself all right?! But that was pretty fluffed up mang!
OMG! Would we even know this person if there wasn't websites like this or we lived in LA? No, hell no.
I have not a lot of sympathy. I've had much more drama in my life and I didn't turn to drugs and I sure didn't travel like he did or make his kind of money. I'm tired of whiners that are living high on the hog, have much more than your average, everyday person, and yet we are supposed to feel all sympathetic because he broke up with his girlfriend and couldn't handle it? Please. He was an ADDICT plain and simple or he'd have been able to handle it.
'
Let's all quit making accuses for drug addicts; the weak who use it for an excuse.
"…which goes to show how incredibly harrowing a disease addiction is…"
Your words, Mario. If you believe them, then you will back off Mischa and Amy and others who are struggling. Will it take their deaths like DJ AM's and Jackson's to turn your tone into sympathy? I hope not. Perhaps a little support from you - from all of us - would go a long way in helping them heal. Don't let death be the time to suddenly be supportive.
I blame Carrie Prejean here is why I f she was not such a bitch to Shanna at work Then Shanna would have had better times with Travis at home and Travis would have had time for DJ AM.
BLAME CARRIE!
Re: 29 – You make more sense than any other post on here. It is a choice. What he did is weak.
I'm going thru lots of things all at once right now, 10 times the amount of stress he was under. But guess what? I just had a nice dinner and fed and hugged my dog, and said to myself, LIFE GOES ON.
He was weak. Every day WEAK people OD and we don't hear about it. Who the hell was he without press or if you lived in LA?> Most people didn't even know who he was, yet we are to feel more sympathy for him than any other street person who OD? I don't think so.
What a jackass! He survives a plane crash that killed 4 others and then flushes his life away with drugs. What a waste. Too bad he survived instead of one of the others.
Can't believe Perez did not write his fake 'sad', 'so sad', or my favorite, 'so, so sad'.
x
Also, Perez writes:
–which goes to show how incredibly harrowing a disease addiction is–
x
Perhaps he should remember this the next time he decides to make fun of others (who he does like) who are also having addiction problems.
Why do you give your sympathy to DJ AM, yet you completely treat Amy Winehouse like scum of the earth? You say you understand what a harrowing disease addiction is, yet you slam every addicted celebrity you can think of. You are a hypocrite.
Re: Nick Gerz –
I think its ironic that this happened just as the new final destination movie comes out. he escapes a fiery plane wreck, cheating death then OD's on crack…
x
How is that ironic? Was he in the movie or something? Better look up the word 'irony' in the dictionary since you don't know what it means.
I love how you give a fuck about the disease of the addiction only when someone dies from it. However, anyone who's alive and actively struggling with it is just "pAArtying" in your eyes. Your site is entertaining otherwise, so try not to be such a contradictory douchebag.
RIP, he was one of the VERY FEW celebs that was never known for the drama, but for their talent.. so sad.
your a major asshole perez and fuckin contradicting,u feel bad about his so called horribe disease but yet u put down any celeb that has a slip up..if he was alive and got caught with whatever he od from u would be talking shit like always.ur THE FAKEST PERSON OUT THERE…ALL OF A SUDDEN U HAVE A FUCKIN HEART
he said in a clip for the show he was working on about addiction, he was sober 11 years…
RIP dj Am…i never actually met you but you were an inspiration to me.
Re: stellagranos – why dont u go get raped and killed by a crack head nig then rot in hell with dj am and mj
Re: Nick Gerz – umm i really dont think the irony card could be played on this.. you sound pretty stupid
Re: cdv –
there's no proof of michael abusing kids so cut the bullshit.
don't be so quick to judge anyone includging DJ AM
It's funny, Perez. You rip to shit any of the celebrities that currently use. I'm a sober alcoholic. It's so easy to pass off being a "normal" person, when your "only" habit is drinking. When you say DJ AM's death shows what a harrowing disease this is, why don't you realize this with people like Kerry Katona, Mischa Barton, etc? I can tell you first hand that I have LOST EVERYTHING due to alcholism, and it still didn't stop me. It IS a MENTAL illness, the same as bi-polar disorder or schizophrenia. You need to realize how serious this disease is. It has nothing to do with being "weak". I could go on and on about this. I was a superbly high achiever. I was such a great contributing member of society. This disease gives you no choice, EXCEPT if you are lucky enough to becomes sober for a few days - you might be able to help yourself. If you say something halfway enlighting, you should follow it up with proper comments regarding those still sick and suffering.
Sad, Time heals…or it just gets easier with time. Everyone is different in how the greive, but I know and time helps. Such an open wound still now………..May he RIP..And God comfort those all in mourning…
WOW, some of ur comments people.. come on. I can't even read anymore of them, some of U R heartless. A man just died, it doesn't matter the way it happened, he has a family. U don't need 2 B dickheads about it. Addiction is a sad, hard, lifelong battle 4 some people, including myself. RIP, Adam. And my thoughts and prayers R with his family.
OH PLEASE, EVERYONE GETS THEIR HEART BROKEN. YOU DON'T GO AND KILL YOURSELF.
Re: Really8Perez – U r so disrespectful… it wasn't just about being dumped.. post-traumatic stress is no joke…someone so sensitive as that…any slight emotional turmoil can tip someone over the edge. Heaven forbid something traumatic happen to you!!!!
Re: disko2k – His family, friends & fans care…Show some respect….
Re: Pacific Ocean Gal – Well I'm glad you were able to get thru your troubles without a scratch…but not everyone is the same, don't judge others by your own standards…who are you to say what is right & what is wrong when it comes to dealing with trauma….
Re: 4KNG836 – i agree
Hopefully all the self-described "celebrities" that are flooding Hollywood these days will OD and die. People like Heidi Montag, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, etc. Let's do some Hollywood spring cleaning and start over!
The crash was probably due to his crackpipe!!! Mysterious fire that broke out in side the plane????? Hmmmmm Wheres David Caruso?.. I need a tag line!!!
HE WAS DOING A SHOW ABOUT ADDICTION AND SEEING CRACK AND PIPES INDUCED THE NEED TO USE, IT HAPPENS A LOT. ALL IT TAKES IS A TRIGGER TO SET YOU OFF. ADD THAT TO THE PTSD AND ALL THE REST, WELL, THERE YOU GO. SAD, REALLY SAD.
