Blink-182 Cancel Performance To Grieve

Blink-182 has pulled out of performing at SPAC in Saratoga, NY, Monday night due to the recent passing of the band's close friend, DJ AM.
Mark, Tom and Travis posted the following message regarding the cancellation on their official website:
Due to circumstances surrounding the unfortunate and untimely passing of our dear friend Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein, Blink-182 will not be playing tonight in Saratoga, NY at SPAC. Performances by Weezer, Taking Back Sunday and Chester French will take place as planned along with some special surprises. We thank all of our fans for their support in this tough time. For additional information, pleas visit http://www.blink-182.com.

Travis always looked fucked up but I can't, for the life of me, figure out what he's on. I am usually good at that since I have seen it all…what do you guys think? Maybe dope…he has that blank stare of a nodder, not hyper and shiny pinned pupils…my guess.

I read this and tweeted it before my friends who were IN LINE at the concert even knew about it. They were way angry.

They played LAST NIGHT. Maybe they canceled because their crack source died.
I was there… they held back letting people in 45 minutes before they made the announcement. Almost was a riot. And Live Nation is horrible at refunds - spent almost two hours on the phone with them, and no closer to getting our VIP ticket refund of over $440… ugh. I understand and respect their decision, but they have played shows between Friday and today. And over half the venue left after hearing they cancelled. They need to come back to SPAC to make up for it. Seriously.

one of their good friends passes away. do you blame them for cancelling their show? who would want to perform in front of thousands of people after that. just because they are famous doesnt mean they shouldnt be able to take time and mourn.

I had tickets for this show. No one let us know ahead of time. We drove over two hours to get there, waited in a monster line for over an hour, and the only reason we found out they canceled was the people from the front of the line walking back to their cars told us so. I know Blink is upset over AM, but they've played the last three nights in a row. Unless AM's funeral is literally early tomorrow morning I can't see why they couldn't play this show, hop on a plane in nearby Albany to the funeral and let Tuesday's show (if there is one?) know way ahead of time that it wasn't going to happen.
Bottom line: sad times, yes. but there's no excuse for cancelling a show literally at the last minute like that. not when people are paying hundreds a ticket in some cases.

I cant believe that comments I'm reading! Dont you have any sympathy for what happened? They are grieving their friend's death, its only appropiate for them cancel the show.
The band knew they were canceling this morning/last night. They waited until about an hour before the show to let the venue know so that they wouldn't be responsible for as large of a portion of the refunds-if people were already there, they would be more likely to go to the concert and not remand a refund. SPAC's poor employees were screwed beyond belief by these actions.
if i remember correctly…DMB lost on their band memebers last year and STILL finished their summer tour in 2008…just saying.
but i respect their decision and live nation should do some type of refund because Blink was the headliner. It was the main reason why almost all my friends who were at SPAC went tonight, and who knows when they'll be back again.
For what it's worth, LiveNation is allowing refunds for unused tickets at the point of purchase. If you bought them online, look on the LiveNation website under the FAQ's for instructions on what to e-mail them to get your refund. There's no way they could get away with not refunding a show the headliner never showed up to.

I have to be honest. I am beyond disappointed. We were in line to get in when they cancelled. I bought VIP passes for my daughter and her friend. We were told there would be a special surprise, but there wasn't. DMB went on with the show. Surely Blink is as professional as Dave Matthews Band. There must be more to the story for them to break a contract and disappoint 10,000+ fans without notice.

wait so because blink 182 hasn't played in awhile and decide to do a tour and ok i get what happend. but come on! weezer is a pretty big band and i think they are equal if not better than blink! i would pay to go see weezer any day than to go see some 30 somethings singing pop songs with lyrics that sound like a 15 year old wrote them. sure blink had a few pop songs and made it big but jeeeez there not that great. i think weezer should of headlined seeing as they have been more out there than blink has in the last 5 years and a tighter band. is it because blink has more celeb appeal and weezer is more private and kinda nerdy?

Here's why they didn't perform:
"Okay, just got back from this. The staff said that Mark and Tom were there all day, but Travis was at DJ AMs funeral in Cali. They thought that they could get Travis back up here in time, but they were forced to cancel at 6 when he hadn't made it yet. They offered everyone refunds, but there were rumors from some staff that Mark and Tom might still perform with Weezer's drummer subbing in for Travis, so I stayed. Chester French was mediocre and forgettable. TBS was alright but they played a shockingly short set(SPAC staff had said that everyone was gonna get an extended set, but they still only played 6 songs), and Weezer RULED. Amazing, amazing set from them. Here's my beef - blink cancelled AFTER doors opened, and SPAC staff were spreading these stupid rumors as-to what was going on. And there were NO "surprises" whatsoever. Atleast I didn't see any, and I sure was looking hard. I'm not angry - shit happens. I'm SURE Mark will make sure it gets made up to us. But it did suck really bad to hear they cancelled while some people were already in their seats. Faster action shouldve been taken."

they're a bunch of bitches. they didn't cancel at virgin festival which was way closer to the day AM died. but reps at the V fest said that they were threatening to cancel unless they got everything they wanted that day. Blink is just a bunch of wussy cry babies and their set SUCKED ASS. they're just a glorified boy band.

Ohh, and or the ignorant ones out there, they DID give refunds to the Saratoga show and have re-scheduled a few other shows. Honestly, we should be lucky they didn't cancel the whole tour or post pone things longer!
