Disney Buys Marvel For $4 Bil!
Major deal$ are going down in Hollywood today!
The Walt Disney Company has purchased Marvel Entertainment Inc. for $4 billion in cash and stock!!!!
Wow.
Disney now owns the catalogue of 5,000 Marvel characters, including Fantastic Four and X-Men.
The big wigs over at Mickey Mouse's house hope that by owning the comic book characters, Disney will now appeal to a larger audience than tween girls obsessed with Miley Cyrus and the JoBros.
"It helps Disney add exposure to a young male demographic it had sort of lost some balance with," says David Joyce, analyst for Miller Tabak & Co.
Disney CEO Robert Iger believes the combination of Marvel's "strong global brand and world-renowned library of characters" will go along smashlingly with Disney's "unparalleled global portfolio of entertainment properties."

Whatever you think of the transaction, big deals like this mean that capital is flowing and the economy is beginning to come back. There have been virtually no transactions of any size for the past year and a half. Jobs may take awhile to follow, but this kind of thing is an important sign.
Well, everything seems to be wonderful but hell no! It's gonna suck big time for international audiences, because if you don't know, Disney doesn't allow any movies to be seen in English overseas, that is, everytime we have a Disney movie coming out, we have to see it dubbed. And now we're gonna have Marvel superhero movies DUBBED!!!! That sucks!!!!

I grew up in Florida and there are so many people that depend on Disney to support their families and make a living in the Orlando Area. It seems so pathetic that Disney has been cutting back, raising their theme park prices (a one day pass for an adult ticket ages 10+ runs $79) and laying of hundreds of people. But they have $4B to buy Marvel?
Comic-Con 2009 delegates are in shock. I guess now we'll have comic books featuring pole dancing underaged bimbos-in-training also..??

If you go there now there's no sign of marvel anywhere. Universal FL's contract with marvel is just about up. Universal did not resign contract with marvel.

We should of seen this coming. Even with all of the revenue Marvel made from its movies, the company was still going downhill in the economy. So this might not be a total suckage, who knows, Disney might be the ticket to get Marvel back on its feet. Disney has been known to alter Wikipedia entries and make them read as boring administration entries.
