Bush's Daughter Becomes Today Show Reporter!

The Today show has hired Jenna Hager, daughter of former President George W. Bush, as a new correspondent.
Once a month, the reformed pAArty girl will discuss issues from education on television's top-rated morning news show.

"It wasn't something I'd always dreamed to do," said Hager. "But I think one of the most important things in life is to be open-minded and to be open-minded for change."

Along with her correspondent duties out of NBC's Washington bureau, she will also work part-time in her school as a reading coordinator.

"I hope to focus on what I'm passionate about because I think I'd do the best job on them - education, urban education, women and children's issues and literacy," Jenna adds.

I also think you should be more positive about the education portion she will be covering.. you may not have children now, but it is very important that people stay informed on the latest changes in education. it may not be fashion, but it is constantly changing.

I don't understand the negative comments about this story. Jenna is her own person, she works as a teacher in an urban area, you know she's not making a lot of money. She's doing something good by focusing on kids reading. Where is the harm??

I think a reading coordinator(experience from my daughters school) is when a reading teacher who does not have a regular classroom of the same kids everyday, she takes kids separately who have either low reading grade level for their class level or a higher than average reading level to a separate class to work at the kids pace. Every state or school district have a different name for that position. If that is what her job is?????

She earned a teaching degree from the U.of Texas and has been employed teaching 3 and 4th graders. She spends her summers in Mozambique and South America teaching AIDS prevention. She has a college degree, she has written a children's book and has been on that morning show as a contributor several times. She has as much right to be on there as anyone else who has an opinion. The network was quoted as saying she did a great job the few times she was asked to be a contributor, therefore the network ASKED HER to work for them based on how well she did before. Who wouldn't take the gig if it was offered to them.

Actually Perez a "reading coordinator" generally concerns him/herself with the literacy needs of the school. Depending on the district/state curriculum standards the reading coordinator will test children, select books the children are capable of reading, assist teachers in helping children learn how to read and essentially ensuring children are learning to read.
There are people who pick out books. They are called librarians. Maybe if you were more concerned with education you'd know the difference.
