DJ AM Death, Possible Suicide

The usually reputable and reliable People Magazine, is reporting, that DJ AM (aka Adam Goldstein) may have deliberately tried to kill himself. The suicide theory is based off the findings of the officers on the scene.
When DJ AM was found in his apartment, he had eight undigested OxyContin pills in his stomach and a ninth in his mouth. The one unswallowed pill suggests that he was taking the pills quickly, too quickly for his body to be able to handle. Also, directly next to his body, investigators found a crack pipe. When his body was shifted, crack was found underneath him.
Along with drugs, DJ AM had propped a mirror against the front door of the apartment along with the door to his bedroom, making it more difficult for officials to get to him. He also had several personal items scattered out in the open near his body, including photos and love notes from his girlfriend, Haley Wood. The two had recently split up and when DJ AM was found, close to his person was a Valentine's Day card that read: "Thank God you're in my life. I love you."
A law enforcement source reveals that this type of evidence could be linked to a suicide attempt, though at the moment, without any autopsy or toxicology results, it is still being treated as an accidental overdose.
No matter which way it turns out being, it is sad for it to have happened either way.

Can we have more coverage on a guy who played records and did drugs? Please? "The world is in mourning." Moby wouldn't get this much press and he is actually someone who made a difference in the music scene and has talent.

Who the fuck cares? Hundreds of people die everyday for the same shit.
It's so sad that ANOTHER talentless crackhead couldn't handle the burden of living…He won't be missed by many.

sounds like a homocide to me…with all of the fight over reality shows exposure to the public and trying to gain ratings…I wouldn't be suprised if he was murdered to gain exposure for the show coming out.

He was a recovering addict, with many recent traumas that would be a large enough trigger to push him back into using, but like many addicts they think they can return to the dosages that they used the last time which could have been years prior, the dosage enough now would kill them as they have not built up tolerance. It is sad regardless for the reason, and I pray for his family and friends. Yoda

It just shows you can have the job and money of your dreams, but still be very unhappy. Don't mean to be religious, but it's good to have some kind of faith underneath. Faith is what gets you through life.
It sure sounds like suicide. I don't know if Nicole and Mandy broke up with him as well. Maybe Haley leaving him was the last straw. Plus, he just wrapped up the first season of his show where he helps addicts, as a recovering addict himself. If he returned to using crack cocaine, that would totally be a problem for the show, and would make him feel like a failure. Eight undigested OxyContin, with a ninth in his mouth. It sounds like he was eating them. He knew enough about those drugs to know that that amount of OxyContin taken at once would be fatal. I think him saying he was going to rehab the following day may have caused him a great deal of anxiety as well. I do not believe Haley saying they were still together. Maybe it is too awful for her mind to handle at her young age…the thought of someone ending his life over her. So maybe she is lieing to herself on that. Anyways, there were numerous "issues" for DJ AM beyond his break up with her.
So his girlfriend broke up with him and he decides to ingest a shit ton of pills. He clearly had a lot of problems that got the best of him because it's obvious he wanted to die. It's only tragic because he could have done so much more to help others, but he took the cowards way out. His demons are all gone now… may he rest in peace.
Re: fantomas – Oxycontin is a legal painkiller commonly prescribed after surgeries. Unfortunately, it's effects has often been compared to the same effects as heroin, and is HIGHLY habit-forming. After his plane crash, and his injuries/skin graphs, it's not too strange that he had the pills available/prescribed, but knowing his history - I'm wondering why doctors couldn't think of another treatment for him to take.
2 close friends of mine died of oxy overdoses in the span of a year-so unfortunately I'm too familiar with its effects.
Re: Breeze – Wow, you guys are so HARSH!! He was in a terrible plane crash that killed other people he knew. He had said in an interview that he felt guilty for surviving. He was obviously depressed and suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. The guy needed psychological help. People do not just relapse from NINE+ years of sobriety over nothing. My heart goes out to his family.

I hope you realize, Parasite, that by publishing a story intimating that this popular, famous individual MAY have committed suicide, several of your more unstable readers will commit suicide themselves, feeling that if DJ AM did it, it's okay for them to do so.

god when you have all the money in the world,all the fame how can your life end up that way…..All my life ive been meeting suicidal people which was fuckin sad because all they want is attention and someone to make them feel better . I used to be suicidal , dreaming about dying , taking bunch of drugs , looking at the bottle of pill and just wanting to swallow everything but when i found my husband 3 years ago who also was suicidal we learnt that there is joy and happiness in this life and that no matter what keep living it coz hey the world is getting harder everyday and just knowing that you get threw the days is one of the biggest accomplisment you can achived . Me and my BF were only 22 and Suicide is really not an option.

I can't believe how much sympathy and love a drugged out crack addict who has contributed nothing of any significance to the world gets when there are people who don't throw thier lives away on drugs dying every day who get nothing.
It really shines a light on what is important to people like Perez and other "celebraties" with thier heads in the clouds. It is normal to feel love and sympathy for a usless drug user who was just a drag on the entire country by spreading and supporting the use and of drugs.
Using the word "tragic" is a joke.
This explains why his friends are freaking out so badly. He just couldn't take any more pain, God rest his soul. All the money and women in the world didn't matter to him, he only wanted what any person wants - love, a family and happiness. At 36, he just couldn't face another day, like Marilyn Monroe all those years ago. My heart goes out to his family and friends. I hope they don't blame themselves too much; he did not want to be saved. Now at least he's free from all of his pain. I'm sure he never meant to hurt any of his loved ones but he obviously felt he had no choice

Don't cover up suicide. Talk about it. It could save a life of someone you love. This poor guy was very good at seeming normal to the outside world, but it was all just an act.
every other death reported this year has been sad, farrah fawcett, michael jackson, especially and dominick dunne, ted kennedy but this loser only inspires ire. he was a total douchebag and isnt worthy of my sympathy.

What's 'tragic and unnecessary' is the release of these details. He took his life, it was his sad decision, now he's gone….. is it necessary to lay the guilt on the living? Relationships rarely last forever, Haley doesn't deserve to have to think about this stuff on top of losing him for the rest of her life. Death is finality… he must have been serious about leaving if he blocked the doors etc. Respect that and leave them all alone.

Especially after all the shit he has been through…losing his girlfriend who he was obviously very much in love with, A TRAUMATIZING PLANE CRASH, being put on all kinds of medication because of it, and god knows what else. He was amazing to last 10 years as a clean and sober individual. The majority of addicts do not last that long. Other than his unfortunate addiction (which is a disease lets remember) he hasn't done anything wrong. In fact he was a kind and giving person who had talent and worked for his living. He participated in all kinds of charities and used his experience to help save other addicts. Wtf have you people done?!

This is a human being…what is wrong with you people! If this was a suicide think of how sad/lonely/depressed he must have been on the last night of his life. Maybe if a stranger had smiled at him, someone held open the door for him…just maybe it would have lifted his spirits. Instead we have a world filled with uncaring people like you; who have nothing but ill will to spew out into the world. There is an old saying if you spit in the air it comes back in your face. When/if something likes this ever tragically happened to one of your friends/family you might think back to the awful things you have said here on this site. HARD to feel sad for a guy who was a rock star DJ, playing records for $thousands of dollars a night. he was a super talented DJ living a lifestyle most dream about! HOT HOT gfs, many many friends who loved him. he survives a plane crash that everyone was killed in besides him and travis. he kills himself over a broken heart??? a broken heart is NOT the end of the world people!! Its a temporary problem. hard to believe he would kill himself over this and its a veery very selfish thing to do. im sorry, its very sad, but what a spoiled brat.

If this is true, and considering the source…one doesn't take 9 Oxycontins to get high, they take 9 Oxycontins to die. If this information is true then this was no "accidental overdose" from recreational drug use but a deliberate attempt to end one's life. This guy would have been in some serious emotional pain to do something like this. Suicide can be a supremely selfish act so to saddle ANY blame on the girlfriend is terrible. People who do this are in a seriously emotional state and they aren't thinking rationally, as all they can focus on is their own pain and not the pain they could be causing loved ones with their departure. His friends and family are going through enough with this man's loss; they don't need people accusing them of being the cause.

Its still unclear whether its a suicide. There is a lot of shame & guilt associated w/ relapse. He had relapsed a few days before & was planning to go to rehab the following day. Anyone who has done coke/crack enough knows the crash is HORRIBLE. Its common to take a bunch of downers to knock you out before you face the horrifying trauma of coming down. It remains to be seen if:
1. What milligrams the Oxys were. Many people use 80 mg Oxys. If Adam took eight to nine 10 mg Oxys, it's possible he was just trying to knock himself out before the crash in a last hurrah before rehab. Eight to nine 80mg Oxys=prob suicide.
2. If he was prescribed Oxys for his pain & had a tolerance to a certain amount, it would still make sense for him to take his normal dose, then take extra pills to counteract the crack & avoid the crash not thinking he'd die.
3. No note left or (as of yet) any cryptic last minute mixes on his laptop, nor left a will for his mother to whom he was very close.
4. Barricading of doors is also common when you're paranoid on crack.
So its possible it was a suicide, but also quite feasibly, he relapsed on crack in the days prior, knew he was going to rehab the next day so he went balls to the wall, tried to make himself pass out before the crash. Not uncommon, but very tragic. RIP Adam.
