Private Memorial Planned For DJ AM Tomorrow

wenn2449178__opt2.jpg

DJ AM (born Adam Goldstein) will have a private memorial service slated for Thursday at the Hollywood Palladium nightclub, a venue he was known to rock in his day.

The event is said to pay tribute to the DJ's struggle with drug addiction by following a format in the style of "an open 12-step meeting."

The invitation asks of it's guests:

"Adam's friends both from his life in recovery, as well as those from other areas of his life are welcome. We ask only that everyone adhere to the tradition of anonymity and let what they hear there, and who they see there, stay there."

We're sure that it will be a special tribute to him.

So some dance club DJ commits suicide after being blessed with a second chance but was too self-centered and stupid to appreciate it. Fuck it, man.

    *

I'm gettin' real sick an' tired of all the boo hooin' over druggies killin' themselves an' then their worshippers praisin' 'me as if they were sainted people we couldn't live without.

Rasputin's liver is as rotten as his namesake. Nobody chooses to be an addict. Addiction is a disease that any addict wishes they didn't have. I think Adam must have been so ashamed that he relapsed, especially in light of his recent MTV show, that he just couldn't deal. I hate it because a huge talent and a really great human being has been lost. He had the esteem of his peers and he helped countless people in his lifetime. I wish he could have ridden out his relapse and gone to treatment and resumed working through the PTSD of the plane crash and fear of flying. After everything positive he has done, it breaks my heart that he thought everything was so hopeless for him. I wish he hadn't worked on that MTV show, because I think it was just too close to home for him after everything else he's been through recently. RIP dear Adam. You will never be forgotten…

Fuck shitty, formerly fat, crappy, drug addicted DJs. What a piece of shit this guy was. Bury him next to Jacko the freak and Kennedy the turd.

  12. 12

sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad when rich crackheads kill themselves.

  13. 13

Re: mishy You don't get addicted unless you choose to pick up the pipe or down the pills…

  14. 14

Just another empty seat on relapse row!!

  15. 15

    Re: mishy
Agree 100% with every word. I don't believe that AM was just some low life junkie. He was a generous, talented, and kind hearted individual…with a sickness. Obviously he did not want to be an addict, he was clean for nearly 10 years! And used his unfortunate experience to save others from themselves and was active in several charitable organizations. I think that working with drug addicts, losing his girlfriend, ptsd from the plane crash of course, and the medication he was given after it all triggered a relapse. Poor guy. I wish some people could stop being so disrespectful and heartless about this. Let's see you try to handle all that he's been though.

    Goodbye Adam! Rest in peace.

  16. 16

Rasputin - you said what the majority is thinking. Bless you.

  17. 17

come on get it over with, i'm sick a lookin at pictures of this ugly fcukin heeb, way to make a stupid dj look like a martyr.

  18. 18

What a great idea! Too bad Perez is going to f it all up. Jackass!

  19. 19

will there be pills and weed at the memorial?

  20. 20

I don't get all the attention, this guys only claim to fame was that he dated somebody who's only claim to fame was that she used to be friends with Paris Hilton.

  21. 21

I might add that the twelve steps of AA and NA must have changed….cause their only requirement to come to a meeting is that you are sober…..now I suppose that you have to be sober and/or dead. This memorial goes against everything AA preaches.

apparently there are tons of self righteous people out there who have never experimented with any type of drug, be it the college toke of the joint or the weekend 6-pack. That is how addiction starts, with a beer or a toke. Addicts get hooked; non-addicts don't. Those people who aren't addicts have no point of reference and could never begin to understand this disease unless they have close friends or family who are addicts, so it's just like any other ignorant SOB out there, when they don't understand something, they diss it, cuss it, rag on it. Obviously the guy was highly accomplished and had tons of people who thought well of him. That is why people are sad that he's gone. And I'm one of them. And I know I'm not alone.

  23. 23

Re: mishy – Oh spare me this self-righteous crap. I've had a toke of a joint back in High School and most of my friends/ex's used. Mostly pot and hallucinogens but my ex was a hard core methhead. Now a recovering meth addict.
    *
People have a CHOICE not to become an addict. I'ts not how you say…you take one toke or one snort or one puff and PRESTO you are addicted if you are predisposed to be an addict, and not if you aren't an addict. That's just NOT how it happens. There is a LONG TIME of in between. And let me tell you what this in between is.
    *
The in between time is when the future addict thinks he is SPECIAL. He thinks he is INVINCIBLE and that HE will not get addicted because he is BETTER and STRONGER than those who have succombed before. He handles his first few tokes/puffs/drinks/snorts very well and so he think he can HANDLE it and he is BETTER than other addicts out ther. It's about ARROGANCE.
    *
People have a CHOICE to become an addict. The ones who become addicts are usually those who LOOK DOWN ON ADDICTS and who think they are BETTER than others so there is NO CHANCE they will become addicted. They think they are invincible and they are not.
    *
No pity for DJ AM from me. He CHOSE to become an addict and then he got in so deep he couldn't get out.

  24. 24

Re: KDIZZLL – No need for the Jew-hating you fucking anti-semitic white supremicist scrubber.

  25. 25

The best tribute would be if all these Hollywood druggies would donate the money from their next hit to a drug rehab program.

  26. 26

he WILL BE SORELY MISSED but I fear for Travis, he has been put through some ringer lately, poor guy- I wish I could give Travis a big fuggin HUG

  27. 27

Re: mishy – been to rehab a few too many times? addiction is not a disease. it's only labeled as a "disease" by aa, na, and aa/na sponsored rehabs. dont believe everything people tell you.

  28. 28

I really hope that Perez will be an example to the other celebrity bloggers to take the disease of addiction and substance abuse seriously. Everytime you mock somebody (example: "wino" for amy wh ect…) you further the stigma that addiction is a matter of choice and self discipline. People die from addiction everyday. What's worse is that people suffer in silence out of fear. Fear their parents, their school, their job, their spouse, their friends will judge and reject them. The more we can allow a venue for people to feel safe to voice their concerns about their drinking and drugging, the less people will die. Perez has the venue to do such a thing. People die of the disease of addiction and alcoholism because of shame, fear, and feelings of failure. Most never find the help they need. Many are in denial of the problem. Let these celebrities not die for nothing. Rich, poor, fat, thin, black, white, we all know somebody who struggles. If only the world were a place where people could ask for help without being judged.

  29. 29

Your readers are rascist ignorant idiots! You proud of that Perez! Way to add to humanity! If a person was medically given an opiate to manage pain and told to take a certain amount of that opiate everyday for a month to manage say cancer pain; every human being including you Perez would become what we in the medical field call "dependent". We will keep this simple but bascially that means that your body will become used to the external drug ingested in the body and downregulate certain neurotransmitters like GABA, dopamine, and seratonin. AKA your body will make less of those "feel good" chemicals. That will happen to every tom dick and harry…it is fact. That is called chemical dependency and many patients are chemically dependent on drugs for many different reasons however that does not mean that they are "addicted". But if you remove that drug from them they will suffer probably physcial and mental withdrawl symptoms. In a large percentage of chemically dependent patients (we think larger than we used to, we used to think 10% but now we think it is closer to 40%) when you take that drug away they will not just go through the withdrawl but they will also long or yearn to take that same drug again to stop the feelings of withdrawl. In a large % of people they will develop a not just a physiologic dependence which would happen to all of us but some develop a psychological dependence. just educate yourselves.

Perez, is it not weird that Heath Ledger "mysteriously" dies of an overdose… then Michael Jackson "mysteriously" dies of an overdose, then DJ AM "mysteriously" dies of an overdose. I think it's time to ask if there's a link and a helping hand in this process.

  31. 31

He was well known in his own right! Ok, he fell into the habit again. He was on his way to rehab. May he rest in peace now. I can hear this song in my head.
    One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small,
And the ones that mother gives you
    Don't do anything at all.
    Go ask Alice
    When she's ten feet tall.
And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall,
Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
    Has given you the call.
    Call Alice
    When she was just small.
When the men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low.
    Go ask Alice
    I think she'll know.
    When logic and proportion
    Have fallen sloppy dead,
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
    Remember what the dormouse said:
"Feed your head. Feed your head. Feed your head"

  32. 32

this is why you shouldn't do drugs. drugs can kill you. yet another sad ending followed by moronic choices.

  33. 33

    Re: DK1102

STFU u disrespectful piece if ISH

  34. 34

    RE: ifyouseekkatie

You are 100% wrong. "The only requirement for membership is a DESIRE to stop using." You DO NOT need to be sober to attend an AA or clean t attend an NA meeting. In fact, somewhere along the lines many addicts hear something at a meeting to which they can relate & then decide to get clean.

I'm 100% with you Mishy. As a recovering addict, I know how much of a disease addiction really is. And no it is NOT a choice. How many of you made the best decisions at 14 years old? Use stems vastly from abusive homes to simple experimentation. Those not prone to addiction move on. Addicts don't.

Its still unclear whether its a suicide. There is a lot of shame & guilt associated w/ relapse. He had relapsed a few days before & was planning to go to rehab the following day. Anyone who has done coke/crack enough knows the crash is HORRIBLE. Its common to take a bunch of downers to knock you out before you face the horrifying trauma of coming down. It remains to be seen if:
    1. What milligrams the Oxys were. Many people use 80 mg Oxys. If Adam took 8-9 10 mg Oxys, it's possible he was just trying to knock himself out before the crash in a last hurrah before rehab. 8-9 80mg Oxys=prob suicide.
    2. If he was prescribed Oxys for his pain & had a tolerance to an amount, it would still make sense for him to take his normal dose + extra pills to avoid the crash not thinking he'd die.
    3. No note left or (as of yet) any cryptic last minute mixes on his laptop, or leave a will for his mother to whom he was very close.
    4. Barricading of doors is also common when you're paranoid on crack.
So its possible it was a suicide, but also quite feasibly, he relapsed on crack, knew he was going to rehab the next day so he went balls to the wall, tried to make himself pass out before the crash.

I believe every person is an ingredient making up one big delicious meal. Some are sour like lemons, some are spicy, some sickeningly sweet. Yet together we're all necessary to complete the dish. Occasionally I'm reminded how grateful I am to be who I turned out to be. Right now is one of those times. And if you're reading this, I believe you're special, unique & necessary too, even if we're not alike.

RIP Adam. You made a HUGE difference in my life, for which I will be grateful, one day at a time. I hope what comes out of your passing is that at least 1 person recognizes their self-destructive path & chooses to get help, and that it serves to educate those who are uneducated about addiction to open their minds to understanding this life-threatening & VERIFIABLE disease. Rest in peace.

    RE; itsadisease

Couldn't have said it better myself. Kudos.

Lastly, as a recovering addict, I know it would have looked like a suicide if anyone found me in my worst stages - using coke for days on end, then to pass out quickly I'd take - all at once - Sleep MD, Diphenhydramine in Tylenol PM & Bendryl, a MINIMUM of twelve 2mg Ativan, Vicodin, shots of vodka, Nyquil, Unisom, weed (which NEVER worked as a downer then, because it would make my mind start racing again), Ambien CR, Lunesta, and as many whippets as necessary - generally 24-36 cannisters to cut off my oxygen so I could avoid the crash. If anyone found me, they'd be SURE it was a suicide. But that was never so. It was all to avoid the crash - & the guilt associated with using altogether. I am EXTREMELY lucky - I did this for years, with my tolerance for both coke & downers increasing steadily, as progression is the nature of this disease.

I am grateful to be clean today, and Adam was a big part of my recovery. I KNOW how an addict thinks - I am one. For those of you on here who think addiction is a choice, that's OK. I have learned acceptance is vital to my recovery. You have a right to think what you wish. I'm actually happy I'm an addict; I now have tools I need to learn how to cope with stress & live life on life's terms. If you think AA/NA "brainwash" you into believing addiction's a disease (despite massive amounts of proof the medical field), well great. I sure needed my brain washed.

  39. 39

God always take back the good ones for himself. Blessed one…RIP.
