    I saw a cheesy version of it made like 10 years ago, and the whole concept was actually really good.

    I love the novel, love the actors but I'm not looking forward to this. I really wanted to be wowed by it and I'm not. I saw the trailer a few weeks ago and it did nothing for me. I'll probably watch it eventually though.

    I haven't read The Picture of Dorian Gray, but I think I should it sounds like a good book and this looks like a good gothic type movie. I love classics with a twist and gothic literature from that time was amazing.

    As for slap nancy….it probably means something like you look like a slapped girl…since nancy I know is a term to say wimp or girl at least back in those days. Oh far we have come in language. Granted I can't be positive and it's a guess, but taken in context hopefully I'm right.

    Nancy was English slang for 'buttocks' in the 1800s, but by the turn of the century it meant, on both sides of the Atlantic, 'a homosexual or an effeminate man'. Variations include nancy boy and nance. So the phrase probably means he looks like a spanked bum, all red and embarassed.

    It's funny I've read that book maybe 5 times and he never says "slap nancy" in it. Not once.

    The first Dorian Gray movie had Angla Lansbarry in it. I hope she does a cameo in this one. Just for old time sakes. Because no one is alive from the first picture but her. It's a classic! This one looks like it may be pretty good.

    If anyone has the opportunity to see "The Picture of Dorian Gray" from 1945 starring Hurd Hatfield, watch it! It is an awesome movie. The film is in black and white, except for when they show the horror that the painting has become, which is in color.

    Ben Barnes is the WORST possible choice for this. They should have picked someone who could carry the movie. It will not do well. I would even have thought about Rob Pattinson or Ed Westwick. And I cannot stand either one.

    As an English teacher, I have to say, I am SO excited for this movie. The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of my absolute favorite novels, and one of my favorite novels to teach to my students!

    Slap Nancy…while i am not totally sure i now that a Nancy is a term used by the brits to refer to gay men they also use puffs it could have been a term refering to dorian acting like a girl and being a Nancy about breaking up with a girl. they book never uses that term.

    Cant wait to see it

    I've read the book, and now seen the film and as far as i'm concerned there is not a more beautiful person on the planet than Ben Barnes, especially with the spanish accent in Caspian!!

    The film is amazing, but there wasn't nearly enough homoeroticism (seeing as that's pretty much the point of the whole novel, Oscar Wilde wasn't thrown in prison for theft!) but there's a bit. Especially look out for the scones montage, me and my friends cracked up :P

    I saw it last night and it was amazing. There's a few differences from the book as it's based on Dorian and his sordid games rather than the actual portait (jim vain's death is different, Henry is more passionate and darker in the film whilst he was more of a charming flirt in the book and then they gave Henry a daughter in the film) but it was seriously great. My boyfriend doesn't usually like fiction, especially not the older classics but he really enjoyed the film. There's some great scenes, quite a few funny moments, some dark horror and even a few gay kisses :) the blonde boy is particullarly hot
