  4. 4

    Slapped arse.

  5. 5

I saw a cheesy version of it made like 10 years ago, and the whole concept was actually really good.
I can't wait to see this one!
    It looks amazing!

  6. 6

ive met ben barnes!! and i asked him whether he thought he was good looking and he hated me for it. not to mention he avoided the question haha

  7. 7

I love the novel, love the actors but I'm not looking forward to this. I really wanted to be wowed by it and I'm not. I saw the trailer a few weeks ago and it did nothing for me. I'll probably watch it eventually though.

  8. 8

dorian gray is supouse to be beautiful and this guy is so fucking ugly.

  9. 9

Slapped Nancy= the face an effeminate (Nancy) gay man makes when slapped.

  10. 10

    It means slapped arse :D

  11. 11

My favorite story by Oscar Wilde!

  12. 12

I haven't read The Picture of Dorian Gray, but I think I should it sounds like a good book and this looks like a good gothic type movie. I love classics with a twist and gothic literature from that time was amazing.

As for slap nancy….it probably means something like you look like a slapped girl…since nancy I know is a term to say wimp or girl at least back in those days. Oh far we have come in language. Granted I can't be positive and it's a guess, but taken in context hopefully I'm right.

  13. 13

I think the whole phrase is "Bitch slap Nancy Pelosi"? :-)

  14. 14

Re: Notmybowlofrice – Yeah I think you are right there. :)

And yeah this is going to be great - its on my list of must sees.

  16. 16

Uh wasn't Dorian suppose to be drop dead gorgeous …this guy…isnt it.

  17. 17

Nancy was English slang for 'buttocks' in the 1800s, but by the turn of the century it meant, on both sides of the Atlantic, 'a homosexual or an effeminate man'. Variations include nancy boy and nance. So the phrase probably means he looks like a spanked bum, all red and embarassed.

  18. 18

    Re: TingLingChungTing

haha lmao! I think the answer to that question is pretty evident ;)

  19. 19

    Smacked arse

  20. 20

    love it!

  21. 21

  22. 22

    Re: chicky82

    Yep - a smacked ass!

  23. 23

It's funny I've read that book maybe 5 times and he never says "slap nancy" in it. Not once.

  24. 24

The first Dorian Gray movie had Angla Lansbarry in it. I hope she does a cameo in this one. Just for old time sakes. Because no one is alive from the first picture but her. It's a classic! This one looks like it may be pretty good.

  25. 25

If anyone has the opportunity to see "The Picture of Dorian Gray" from 1945 starring Hurd Hatfield, watch it! It is an awesome movie. The film is in black and white, except for when they show the horror that the painting has become, which is in color.

  26. 26

the book was wicked so here's hoping this is……love colin firth!!!

  27. 27

Re: Notmybowlofrice – I love that you Googled it. :-)

  31. 31

Dorian Is supposed to be angelic, perfect, unaffected. sorry this kid is attractive, but he is no dorian.

  32. 32

id let him do what ever he wanted to me

  33. 33

it's nice to see people on perezhilton have actually read a great classic, and it's also great to see perez featuring it on the site :)

i read this book in college, and it's def. one of my favorites.

  34. 34

I don't know, but I'd like to play "slap nancy" with Colin Firth any day.

  35. 35

Ben Barnes is the WORST possible choice for this. They should have picked someone who could carry the movie. It will not do well. I would even have thought about Rob Pattinson or Ed Westwick. And I cannot stand either one.

  36. 36

    Yummy………..

  37. 37

i love the book so much, this movie is going to be amazing

  38. 38

Yea.. I don't think Oscar coined that term. I've read that book more times than I'd like to admit.

  39. 39

forget Ben Barnes….I want Colin Firth to rub that wooly beard all over me!!

  40. 40

Ben looks like a young Keanu….

  41. 41

a "Slapped Nancy" is a Slapped Arse. Oh, 'Ass' for you americans. :)

  42. 42

this looks like something made by pbs
and this dorian is kinda fug..hes supposed to be super hot

  43. 43

a slapped nancy is like a slapped arse. so basically he looks miserable.

  44. 44

    they're both hot :P

  45. 45

hmmm he's not really what i imagined when i read the book… but we'll see.. Colin Firth is great though

  46. 46

btw, i would have rather seen Hayden Christensen for the part… he would have been perfect!

  47. 47

    Slap Nancy = Perez Hilton

  48. 48

    Sooooo gorgeus…

  49. 49

    Found this online…

  51. 51

gawd, i'm so crazy about ben. he's perfect- cute, smart and an awsome actor.

  52. 52

As an English teacher, I have to say, I am SO excited for this movie. The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of my absolute favorite novels, and one of my favorite novels to teach to my students!

  53. 53

    HOLY SHIT! HE IS FINE!

  54. 54

im so excited, i love this book! i think ben will be good (even though he doesnt have the blonde hair)

  55. 55

Re: FayeRiffic – He was also supposed to be blonde. All in all I think this guy is pretty handsome.

  56. 56

    x3 Ben Barnes
I am really looking forward to this movie. Ben is a bright young actor, a beautiful human being and MY future hubby!!!
PEREZ BACK OFF…. otherwise I will just slap you, nancy.lol
you are a bitch, is not enough Rpatzz, JoBros and Zaquicha????

  57. DM138 says – reply to this

    57

Hahaha!! "Slapped Nancy"… too funny! I gotta remember that.

  58. 58

    Ben Barnes is ridiculously good-looking :) )

  59. 59

"Slapped Nancy" - he means a woman who's been slapped, as in referring to female using a first name to illustrate the sex

  60. 60

    I second that ;)

  61. 61

    Can't wait to see this.

  62. 62

    correction,
    MY future husband

  63. 63

I think he is attractive enough for Dorian he has got a very Victorian English look about him which better suits the character

  64. 64

SLAP NANCY = When Perez got hit by the BEP's manager!! BOOYA!!

  65. 65

He's so gorgeous it actually hurts.

    Re: jacksparrowlover – @25 - Here, here.

  67. 67

Slap Nancy…while i am not totally sure i now that a Nancy is a term used by the brits to refer to gay men they also use puffs it could have been a term refering to dorian acting like a girl and being a Nancy about breaking up with a girl. they book never uses that term.

    Cant wait to see it

  68. 68

Re: PixieCullen – I agree with you on that! I love the book! so i have ideas in my head and this isnt it but i will still see it

  69. 69

I've read the book, and now seen the film and as far as i'm concerned there is not a more beautiful person on the planet than Ben Barnes, especially with the spanish accent in Caspian!!

The film is amazing, but there wasn't nearly enough homoeroticism (seeing as that's pretty much the point of the whole novel, Oscar Wilde wasn't thrown in prison for theft!) but there's a bit. Especially look out for the scones montage, me and my friends cracked up :P

  70. 70

I saw it last night and it was amazing. There's a few differences from the book as it's based on Dorian and his sordid games rather than the actual portait (jim vain's death is different, Henry is more passionate and darker in the film whilst he was more of a charming flirt in the book and then they gave Henry a daughter in the film) but it was seriously great. My boyfriend doesn't usually like fiction, especially not the older classics but he really enjoyed the film. There's some great scenes, quite a few funny moments, some dark horror and even a few gay kisses :) the blonde boy is particullarly hot
