Jay Leno Is A Timely Man
Jay Leno is proudly featured on the latest cover of Time magazine.
Pretty good looking for a guy about to head over the hill (He's pushing the beginning of his 60s.)!
During the interview, Jay gives some insight on his love of television, saying:
“We don’t gather anymore. It’s the difference between standing outside a comedy club and looking through the window and standing on the other side of the wall in the room. The experience is a hundred times better when you’re in the room because you’re part of a communal thing with other people. And that’s what TV is to me, a gathering place.”
Well said.
He was also asked about the likelihood that his new show, The Jay Leno Show (which premieres next Monday) will be the last TV show he does.
Leno admits:
"I have no idea. I'd like it to be… Probably. I mean, I'm 59. I'm glad I'm in a young man's game and competing, and that's all good. I don't like trying to act younger than I am. You just do what you do, and hopefully people will like it."
We hope people will like it too. We think the show could be a huge success, if people are open to it.

Ugh, I hate people like him and Robin Williams that do that (Closed mouth smile with no teeth) thing. It's almost as irritating as Rosie O'Donnels "Open your mouth as wide as possible to pretend you're having an exciting time" smile.
I cannot wait for Jay's show to premiere. What a great idea to have a nighttime talk show at an hour when us working folk can stay up to watch it. Jay will achieve off-the-charts high ratings…and the other networks will be scrambling to throw on a personality at 10 p.m. to try to compete.
Good luck Jay–you're the best and funniest. (I hope you're bringing back Stutterin' John, too.) Can't wait!!

Let's face it. America is ADD. At 10pm - we want original shows and not Leno's brand of safe-bran-lame-rip-off "comedy." He'll be getting a 1 share at best - and however NBC spins it, they should be tried for letting Medium go to CBS and essentially giving up on a key primetime slot.
Then again, maybe America really wants to see Jay & Guests ride around in vintage cars and electric cars. I can watch that too - if NBC mails me a month's supply of heroin to stare blankly at his bland version of variety comedy.
And what a douche to steal ANY chance Conan could have for reclaiming late night ratings. The only thing bigger than Leno's chin is his ego.

If Leno is the future then Im glad I watch about 30 minutes of TV a week. Letterman shits on Jays face and at least has the balls to challenge guests on their own shit. Jay is a cornball now.
He'll always have his audience. I went back to Leno and Letterman after spending a couple of flat faced nights watching some of (still developing) Conan's frat-boy hi-jinks. Leno knows the boundaries of good taste; he still has some.

Anyone can book Jay-Z on their show. But there's nothing new or modern that Jay is going to do with the medium of television. He is going to continue to steal ideas from Howard Stern and comics, it sounds like from recent press releases.

Good lord No. Five nights of prime-time Jay? The only thing that was ever funny about his show was "Headlines" and if you think about it, all he did was read other people's blunders. He is BORING.

He seems like a nice guy and all, but this is no new show, IT'S THE TONIGHT SHOW only 90 minutes earlier. I could only take so much of his shows when he did Tonight because he did what Johnny Carson knew better than to do- he made himself the focus of the whole show; by the time Leno's monologue and 'bit' were over there were only maybe 15-20 minutes left for the guests. I may or may not watch this..depends on the guests and how bad the alternate choices are that night.
The old Tonight Show format needed a shake-up anyway. This might work.
