Obama Is A Primetime Diva!
President Obama's approval rating may have decreased in the public eye, but no one is as hostile toward him as the broadcast networks.
Because he is costing them $$$$$!
As news broke of the president's plan to address a joint session of Congress regarding health care issues on primetime Wednesday, none of the Big Four networks have agreed to televise the speech live.
Definitely a change from the honeymoon period after his January inauguration!
The networks have become increasingly frustrated by the administration's insistence for primetime coverage as it forces them to rework their schedules and costs millions of dollars in lost ad revenue.
Fox became the first network to refuse airing Obama's April address after losing $6 million to reschedule American Idol for his second news conference in February. And it will sit it out again as it has too much at stake with the premieres of So You Think You Can Dance and Glee airing on Wednesday.
It has become such a hassle for the networks that the White House has negotiated a time change to better accommodate their viewing schedules, changing from 8pm to 9pm!
This never would have happened with George W!
Because the White House does not compromise with terrorists television networks!

this would never have happened with George W because he never would have told the public what he planned on doing, he would just do it and let us find out 8 years later what a mess he left behind. if people would take the time to educate themselves, perhaps he wouldn't have to interrupt the programs of competitions of dancing and singing which our culture finds more important than a functional health care system.

Can you believe how much this guy has aged in 6 months?? I don't blame the networks, Obama is on TV way too much. I say put him on PBS and whoever doesn't have cable can watch him there if they'd like to. I know what the president has to say is important, but I'm kind of tired of him interrupting my shows.
Health Insurance Reform is such an important issue. I know the networks would rather run their tabloid style news, but this is very important. The majority of Americans are underinformed or misinformed about this issue.

My dad had kidney stones and needed surgery, so the Dr. did the surgery on one kidney. The Dr. suggested my dad might to think about getting the other kidney stones crushed in his other kidney because the Dr. said if this healthcare bill passes, the government will be deciding if my dad needs surgery or not, and get this, his Dr. IS BLACK!!!!

Maybe the reason this would never happen with Bush is because Bush didn't abuse the prime time speeches, the way Obama does. Obama calls a primetime speech/press conference whenever his poll ratings start to drop. He's had more in 8 months than Bush had in 8 years! Use to be presidents would save them for important announcements, but not Obama. Obama just likes to hear himself talk. After his last prime time appearance, one of the networks said it was a waste because there was no "news" - he just said the same old things he's been saying the past few months about health care. I guess Obama thinks if he says something long enough, that that will make it true. He's such a child.
Plus, fewer and fewer Amerecans are watching Obama's appearances on TV. I stopped watching him in the spring.

Secondly, TARP was created under Bush. There have been numerous town hall meetings and speeches from the president and coverage on every news channel. We don't need to hear him repeat himself again. The democrats have praised Obama so much and lifted him up as some kind of god and his ego is about to explode. This man hasn't done anything to bring the country together. He has insulted republicans and any news show that doesn't hail him forgetting that almost half of this country did not vote for him. Affordable, universal Health Care for all Americans is only the single most important legislative work to come down the pipe in decades. Unfortunately, the networks must see no profit for themselves in this. Maybe it's not sensational enough. Being the collaborator that this President is, I'm again not surprised that his people agreed to shift the time to accomodate corporate media heads.

But I can blame Obama for spending an insane amount of money on bailouts that didn't put us in any better shape. That money could have been put to Medicaid and programs such as the one-time surgery coverage for people in need of a particular surgery who don't have coverage. That program was not funded in most states this year. In 3 years who will you be blaming? When does Obama take responsibility? I think democrats will blame President Bush the entire time Obama is in office because they feel like their own party will call them racist for questioning the holy one. It's disgusting. It is so odd that Republicans were ok with Bush giving away Trillions in tax cuts for the top 1%, and with him giving $1.2 TRILLION in subsidies to Private Insurance companies…but heaven forbid if we spend half of that money on actual health care for people that need it. So get a job!!! My sister and I pay for my mother's insurance and it is not that expensive. Have you even checked with different insurance companies to see how much it would be. Considering you are young and presumably healthy, it shouldn't be that much. We cannot expect nor should we expect the government to provide everything for us. There are people in need such as my handicapped sister who cannot work and who is on Medicaid and that is where the government should help out.

Is the system fucked up? Yes. But is giving free health insurance going to do anything?!!?!? NO. It's going to ruin our system COMPLETELY. You need to go talk to a Doctor or Nurse and see what is going to happen if his little plan passes. People will be waiting weeks for stupid things that take 10 minutes (such as x-rays, cat scans, basic check-ups). OR rooms across America will be booked! Say goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa is god forbid something happens to them, our system won't have the time nor the money to care for someone who is over the age of 60. Hell maybe that's better for the government than they wouldn't have to hand out so much social security.
This is a pandora's box that SHOULD NOT be opened. It will be regretted if it happens. Everything is FINE when you're healthy and happy but unless you've actually lived with some kind of chronic disease or illness you have no fucking clue what the health care system is really like.

Alright, I've never before felt the need to comment on something on the blog before, until now.
To everybody saying "shame on people for preferring Glee and SYTYCD over Obama!", at least half a dozen networks air the same address, why should Fox lose money because Obama has to tell some dumb fucks that death panels are not real, etc, etc. And lets be real here, you're going to hear the dissection of the speech for the next week anyway.
Fox has invested so much into promoting Glee's premiere on 9/9/09, and they can't afford to lose all of that because Obama has to deal with the morons in America.
