Mariah Carey Gets Some Praise (Finally)!
Mariah Carey's new album may be lackluster, but at least she's really good in this new movie!
Mimi's new flick, Precious, is garnering her some rave reveiws. One of the best came from EW's Oscar Watchers Dave Karger and Missy Schwartz.
They had some wonderful things to say about MiMi:
Dave Karger: You and I are also both very impressed with Mariah Carey's performance in this movie.
Missy Schwartz: I couldn't believe that I was looking at Mariah Carey. We're all aware of this superstar-larger-than-life-far-from-down-to-earth persona that she has and it couldn't be further from what we see in this movie. She has straggly hair. She wears ill-fitting frumpy clothes - Rayon, I guess.DK: Native Rayon which she hated.
MS: I'm not surprised, I would hate them too. And I even detect a little, possibly, maybe it was bad angle, facial hair. It is so unflattering but she's so good and she works it. She plays a social worker who's working with this young, troubled teenager and she's amazing. I wanted to see more of her on screen.
Bravo, MiMi! Maybe it's time to start thinking about a career shift.
On second thought, we'll wait till we see it before we give you that advice!

Seriously, I saw this movie last January at Sundance. It was off the map good, and Mariah Carey was truly magnificent. Work it she did. Heartbreaking movie, but so much talent in it. It is a must see!!!

This isn't a "Mariah movie." She just has a supporting role in the film. The primary stars in this movie are Mo'Nique and newcomer Gabourey Sidibe. The film won the Grand Jury award at the Sundance Film Festival, and has been getting great reviews. Anyone who's skipping out on seeing this film just because they think it's going to be some "Glitter Part 2" is only cheating themselves.

This is an amazing movie and Mariah is great in it. She really makes your forget she's a pop star when she's on screen. No fancy nails or retouching here. Ambitious role for her to tackle and she pulls it off. Kudos!

I don't think Mariah can give live concerts anymore. Her songs show that she has very limited singing prowess like she used to…and its sad that her middle registers are weak but the high is really high. She's back to being the studio artist (like many artistes these days)…these producers will use samples of her voice to put together into a song. If you listen carefully to her two singles, there's very very much of that piecing together. Where was that Mariah that we once knew? Her ego has probably overtaken her talent !
