Financially Troubled Photog Annie Leibovitz Catches A Break???

There maybe a light at the end of the debt tunnel for photographer Annie Leibovitz. The famed artist has just started settlement negotiations on the $24 million loan she is in the hole for. If successful, Annie could return to work without such a heavy burden to cloud her days.
If these talks are unsuccessful, Annie risks losing not only her four homes, but also the rights to any past and future photograph she has ever taken.
Hopefully, something can be worked out as we would hate to see the work of such an extraordinary artist (and a celesbian!) be thrown into the hands of a greedy company. Her work should remain hers.
The houses she should sell to give them back their money. Fair is fair.

If Fair is Fair, as you say, Perez, then it is fair that the company recoup their $24 million dollars. It is not fair if they lose. They are not greedy. Annie signed the contract and took their money. Fair is paying it back as you said you would.

SHE asked them for the loan. They didnt seek her out. She offered up her life's work as collateral, she didnt have to. They gave her $24 Million because she is bad with her finances. I used to work in her industry and she NEVER paid her bills…ever. One company that I used to give business to had to go out of business because she owed the almost $1M.
She is a greedy entitled person who mortgaged her life for a buck…why? because she didnt want to sell one of her homes because she thought it was worth more $. Thats right…she needed cash and didnt want to sell one of her 4 homes, so she chose this option.
But of course, because she is a lesbian, she is right? You are a fool…you are a fool's fool…
Come on Annie has been an awful person to those who live near her. She pushed her neighbors out of their brownstone after doing damage to their home. She's really a pig. When you think you're bigger then everyone and you don't treat people kindly…karma sucks. Who does she think she is….she borrowed money and then cries when she has to pay it back. Those days are over for her kind in this economic melt down. Pay the money back Miss Annie Warbucks.

Listen, this sucks. She should have never pledged her copyrights as collateral. The company is hardly "greedy", having given her 24 million. She should sell her homes, pay back the loan and maintain her intellectual property. They should give her a bit of time to do that, say a year or so, but they have a right to be charging her interest. Whoever gave her the advice that they did should probably be shot.

wasn't there some deal where a large quantity of her "debts" had to do with inheritance issues when her long-time partner died? Inheritance issues that would hot have been a problem or a cost if she had been allowed to marry that partner and have traditional spousal inheritance rights? Or am I thinking of somebody else…….

Re: TheMrsBradPitt – You are correct. That was part of the issue. She could have sold the house she inherited and paid the taxes. What you do not understand is that her inherited amount was higher than the tax ceiling that is allowed by tax law. Most of us do not understand that above a certain amount (many millions), the goverment taxes 50%…married or not.
Therefore, this isnt a gay marriage issue. It is an estate planning issue. Her partner KNOWING that this could be an issue could have done a tremendous amount of things (that straight people do as well) to insulate her partner from this matter.
She is bad with finances…and apparantly so was her partner.
Using the word "artist" to describe Annie Leibovitz, is a great exaggeration. It was only because she photographed celebrities, that she became famous. A monkey can use a camera the way she did. She has no brains, she has no talent. This is why you see her having these monney troubles.
I agree with Lady_Saccharine_Sweetness. NO ONE needs 4 houses. If she sold 3 of her houses she could probably pay them back. She shouldn't have to lose her life's work.

A person can have as many houses as they can afford. I really can not understand how an artist of her caliber and artistic reputation ends up broke. I do not feel sorry for her, she may lose her catalogue, but she can always take new pictures (hopefully no more pedaphilic photos please, ie. Miley)
