Legal Victory For The Seinfelds

Filed under: Legal Matters > Jerry Seinfeld

The lawsuit brought against Jerry Seinfeld's wife, Jessica Seinfeld, was thrown out by a federal judge yesterday.

The judge rejected claims that Seinfeld copied her best-selling cookbook idea, Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food from Missy Chase Lapine, author of The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for Hiding Healthy Foods in Kids' Favorite Meals.

The judge ruled that both best-selling books "were not similar except for their goal of hiding healthy food inside the favorite meals of children."

Right, those don't sound similar AT ALL.

However, the judge decided NOT to rule on Lapine's slander claims against Jerry Seinfeld for his comments on David Letterman's show comparing her to an assassin, saying those claims belong in the state rather than the federal court.

Lapine's lawyer stated that they do intend to file the claims with the state.

Best of luck, Missy, but it doesn't look like you're gonna get the ca$$$h you're after!

It matters who could afford the most high priced lawyer. Sorry to be so cynical but it's a David vs. Goliath thing here, and Goliath wins this one.

its sad money talks so loud. when you look into the details of the case she is right for suing this bitch of seinfeld. she tried to sell this concept to the same publishers that did seinfelds book and they denied her. they should be sued as well. but like i said…more money, more power. fuck female seinfeld. i hope she wins something. she had a best seller too.

I loathe this seinfeld jessica skank, I read both books and its clearly plagiarism, but jerrys money goes a long way, she is a cheat, she cheated on her hubby of 4.5 months to be with jerry that had a heavier pocketbook.

Okay, folks, we mothers have been hiding healthy food in our kids' food for years. It's not incredibly shocking to me that two women decided to write down their recipes. (Although I am sure Mrs. Seinfeld outsourced her writing.) The Judge's ruling was likely correct as there is no proof that Mrs. Seinfeld stole this un-original idea. The Seinfelds definitely lack credibility because of various life choices they have both made, but it doesn't mean they stole the idea for this book. They bore me. Let's move on.

Lapine is a long-time chef and nutritionist who took a lot of time to create this book. The odds of anyone else just coming up with so many similar recipes (and even the similar title) is highly unlikely. Even the covers are similar when you look up close. This is really unfortunate for Levine because she really should've won this case. Every website out there felt she had a great case when this first came up in the news. She must be devastated.

These books are almost exactly the same so it really shows how much leverage a person has with the right money and attorneys. Even when you go on Amazon, they are always liked to one another as suggestions because they are so similar. This poor lady never stood a chance against them and the really unfortunate thing is that she'll most likely lose the other suit against Seinfeld over what he said about her, too. Good for her for at least trying though.

Oops!. I wrote "Levine" in error but I meant Lapine.

Another example of how money talks. Mrs. Seinfeld directly stole the recipes and the concept from the book already in print and then Jerry was a complete jerk on Letterman about Lapine.
