If Twilight or True Blood ain't satisfying your blood-sucking desires, perhaps The Vampire Diaries will.
Judging from the ratings, it doesn't suck!
The show delivered as one of the CW's new fall shows, bringing in 4.8 million viewers.
It may seem like a small feat, but those numbers placed the show as CW's most-watched series premiere ever!
Let's see if they can keep it up. Perhaps an influx of Twilighters were watching to see how it went down!

watched it and liked it! Just hope it can keep it up for a whole season let alone continuing for more than one… It seems to have potential to do well at the beginning and fizzle out later on… guess we will see!

the show probably lost like 75% of its male audience..to girly but ian somerhalder's character is pretty cool and by the way smallville was the highest rated premier back on the wb b4 the cw

Okay well, I absolutely loved it! Ian did an awesome job transitioning from his Boone days to sexy Damon (= Elena is kind of boring though. Why isn't she blonde in the show?
I watched it and is was pretty good. I'm going to have to watch a few episodes to decide if I'll be fully into the show or not. I'm hoping it's going to keep getting better and better because I do like where the storyline is headed. I've heard the books are amazing. Going to pick them up

Twilight completely ripped off The Vampire Diaries. It may not be the EXACT same plot but The Vampire Diaries series of books were out LONG before Twilight. Brooding vampire, falls in love with a human, but he can't have her for blah blah blah.
The show itself was not the best interpretation of the books at all. The physicality of the characters vs the book was way off… as well as some of the early story line.
Bummer.

Hey, that's the girl from Degrassi. COOL!!! I taped it yesterday and I'm gonna watch it tonight. Hey, what's with all these Degrassi kids becoming famous on other shows or like Drake, in music. It's a good thing, GO DEGRASSI KIDS!!! Canadians are taking over. Perez, why aren't you at celeb central, The Toronto International Film Festival? I bet you'd find some dirt there and have fun while doing it.

Completely agree. The books were really good. The show managed to skip over the unique parts and made it totally mainstream and predictable.
I liked it a lot. Stefan is something to look at until Edward gets back:)

was like a cross between twilight and dawson's creek. i may or may not watch it, depends on if i remember. true blood is way better though. and how can you judge how much of a hit a show is until it's been on for a few weeks. all the hype about it is what drew in the ratings, not the story.

so im kinda on the fence about this whole vampire diaries thing…. oh and by the way, who ever said twilight ripped the V.D. books off is wrong. the author of twilight created her books from a dream and ran with it. i would have to say that i enjoyed watching the first episode and i will probs tune back to catch the next.

I said that. I had read that she said she penned it from a "dream" but I'm sure she must of come across the VD prior to her book and doing research. Too many similarities in my opinion to not think she ripped off LJ SMith just a wee bit.

So true…it was a total disappointment to me. I mean I'm 27 so I'm kind of over all these mainstream type CW shows but I was hopeful that maybe just maybe that keep it more true to the book so it wouldn't just become some sort of teeny bopper show with the vague plot of the books.

Meh, Vampire Diaries was okay, it didn't get really interesting until Damon showed up. And why did they choose Nina Dobrev? I didn't like her on Degrassi, and I really don't like her on Vampire Diaries.
Pfff. A boring copy of Twilight. There's only ONE Edward Cullen.

it was great! im a huge fan of the books and was a bit sad when i found so much of the book was changed to make the series! like characters and places and the actual story itself, with Stefan being a former resident of the town when in the book he had never been to this place before (from Italy hundreds of years ago)
and the fact that elena only has one best friend bonnie( when in the book she has 2 best firends who are key players in the story) also the drastic change of bonnie being a young african american teen who is a decendent of the salem witches when in the book bonnie is a tiny irish red head decendent from the druids! also the name of the town changed from fells church to mystic falls and that elena now has a brother who was a little sister in the books! i could go on and on about the drastic differences including the change in elenas character same name wrong description and the fact that matt and vivky arnt supposed to be related!!!! but im going to keep watching because a fresh look at the series is good and i cant wait to see how things pan out

I agree, the guys were very good looking… but did anyone else think the fog was a little comical and far fetched?
The guy who plays the main vampire has GOT to do something with his facial expressions instead of trying so hard to look like Edward from "Twilight." Robert Pattinson's face is so adorable that he got away with that. All you have to do is look at that part when he gets back into the car right after scaring those jerks away from Bella. I'm sure you all know what part I'm talking about!
Regardless of which book came first, the fact is that the "Twilight" film came out first and that's what's in everyone's mind. Plus, the "Twilight" screenplay had things that were not in the book so "Vampire Diaries" definitely ripped off the extra little scene moments that weren't in either book.
I will have to see about this one. I spent so much time being surprised at the similarities to "Twilight" but the mean brother at the end made it better.

IT IS A FLIPPING VAMPIRE SHOW!!! What is the most popular thing in hollywood right now? VAMPIRES!!! of course people watch it! I watched it and seriously? Did the writers steal everyline from " like omg I like said that and he said that" the book!!! like seriously i watched the first ten minutes and got bored.. then went to go read my twilight book… ima stick to true blood and twilight for my vamp fix ( to Ames82) Um there have been vampire books since the flipping beginning of time dorkus!!! Dracula have to be on of the most original!
I have read the Vampire Diaries novels and love anything written by L.J. Smith. She writes about strong, beautiful young women with great courage. I watched the show last night and although I do not like the differences of the books and the show, I still find the show watchable and look forward to watching the show develop.
I'm a Twilighter. I watched it. I loved it. It was great, but I still thing Twilight's better.
I bet at LEAST half the people who watched it were Twilighters.
It was lame. I didn't like it. It was cheap and just a knock-off of Twilight. That guy's not even cute. He's ugly. Really bad acting. Bad effects. "The fog!" which was like 10 fog machines. The crow. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. I didn't even watch it all.

It was okay. Yes the guys are cute. But in the first episode, 2 people die, 1 almost dies, the main people meet and fall in love practically, it was allll way to fast. Slow the crap down build on the drama…jeeeeeeeeesh. I will give it two more episodes , I still love True Blood!
Also who cares about ideas and who rips off who. That's how ideas start. How many times you do something , saw something then you think of something better. Vampires are in just like everything else in hollyweird it will pass. In the mean time enjoy it.

This show totally sucked. I have seen better dialogue between three year olds. I think the only way you could enjoy this show is if your blind, deaf, and stupid.
The acting was so bad it makes Maria Careys Glitter perfomance seem oscar worthy.
To the writers, producers, and directors of this show, wtf were you thinking airing this rubbish.
I heard about it from a friend who liked the books way back when. I kinda liked it. It took the classic "vampire falls for human" story and gave it a twist that I hadn't quite seen yet. I'll keep watching it a couple more weeks to see if the story stays interesting.

The show sucked ass. Seriously…. They couldn't cast a younger looking guy for the good guy vamp?? He looks like he should be a teacher, not a student. Just makes it kinda pedo-creepy

I haven't watched it yet but I TIVOed but I already know that it is COMPLETLY different from the book like the girl how plays Elena is supposed to be blonde with blue eyes! It seems like its going to be a dissapointment to me.
