Gossip Girl Premiere Tanks In The Ratings

Doesn't anybody care about the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite anymore?
Not according the to the ratings for the season premiere of Gossip Girl last night.
Compared to 2008's premiere, GG was down 36 percent. That's huge!
One Tree Hill didn't fare much better being down 33 percent from their first episode of 2008.
Things aren't looking so hot for The CW. We'll have to see how Mushy Fartone and The Beautiful Life do tomorrow.

Well, I'm sure that the dip in ratings has a lot to do with the fact that with the digital age, no one has cable anymore, or simply TiVo's everything. You can simply download a t.v. show or watch it online. Why pay $80 a month for a box when you can pay $40 for internet and just download the show?
It most probably had to do with the time slot change. I was hoping to watch it at 8 but saw One Tree Hill… which I hate. Soooo instead I had to wait until 9… only to miss out on like half of it because I forgot. It was an okay episode. The whole "neurotic poor little rich girl" act is getting really irritating with Serena.
Cancel this shit please! In fact, just let the CW die.
Looks like parents are getting smarter and not allowing their children to tune in. Last year, the show was about high school students drinking, having sex, and dealing in very adult situations. I would NEVER allow my teenage daughter was this garbage.
That's what they get for having their season premier the same night as the 40th anniversary of MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL!

I saw both! One tree hill sucks ass now it's basically about a bunch of married people now which is never entertaining unless there are some skanky secrets which oth does not :/ Plus the main source of hotness (chad michael murray) is gone. GOSSIP GIRL IS AMAZING! It was soo awesome and the wardrobe, as hard to believe as it might seem is even better than the last two seasons! I cna't wait till Hilary Duff comes in

I didn't watch the entire show because I was watching wwe monday night raw (wrestling), but I tuned in during raw's commercials it looked like it was good, but it was too bad that it was at the same time that many shows were being shown it was better off at 8pm.
I didn't even know when the premiere was. They should have promoted it better.

It's because most people didn't actually know when exactly GG was premiering. Their fault really, cuz I didn't know and neither did a few of my friends that also watch it.
i LOVE LOVE LOVE oth. but…if nathan cheats on haley after everything they've been through, i'll stop watching it. it's so stupid. we KNOW that most relationships dont work, but these days it would be nice to see our favorite couple make it happen!

I Love one tree hill but the season premire was so boring i was looking at the time waiting for it to get over, first off one tree was supposed to be a movie about peyton and lucas so if you take them out of the equation its going to go to shit from here and i dont think it will last a whole season, and gossip girl i auctally like this one but serena i cant stand she has become so annoying with her whining and i just want het to shut up.
Both season one and two in their entirety have never disappointed me like this first episode. I love gossip girl, I own every season but … This premier was a bust. And if this is what the 3rd season is like, than I don't have the time to watch it anymore.
I feel the need to confess for just defending this show but i feel the need to come to their aid. One, advertisements, the lack of them, there wasn't enough of them. Two, the people who watch these shows are high school seniors to people in their mid-twenties, during which we are all either doing homework or at work making money to afford the bills that come with cable tv. So there!
But, and this is to ease my soul since i did have a good day and dont want this weighing down on me for defending the stupid show, people are also getting a little sick and tired of the same old crap from tv shows which only inculdes the boring lives of teenagers who have to deal with the same crap day after day, if i want that, i'll tape soap operas. Time to come up with something new.

Judging by the ratings it probably will. This is the WORST rating for a season premiere. and not to mention that it had no competition yesterday. I wonder what the ratings are going to be when all the fall shows come back
One Tree Hill was great, not a disappointment, although Hayley's sister *yawn*. But Gossip Girl was just major yawn.

I didn't really believe Chad and Hilary were leaving the show…it was weird and usually the end leaves me with a gasp…not this week.
GG is one of those shows the millions of fans watch on-line or when the DVD comes out and the CW knows that. They make huge money off this series and they know it. GG has at least another two seasons after this one.. and then…as far as OTH goes, please please please cancel it!!

And once we stop watching trash tv we can get to airing some good quality programming that families and friends can enjoy together. With their children present, or not. And we especially do not want to even KNOW about this shit when we are trying to show our children what good role models we want for them…..and us….

Ed Westwick and Leighton Meester are the only reason worth watching GG in my opinion. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't even know that this show exists!

I haven't watch either of them ’cause we don't have CW in Canada and it sucks. But i can't wait for GG premiere on Friday at Much!! As for OTH I stopped watching it at season 6. Seriously they are all pregnant or already mom and dad so I really don't connect with it anymore. Just end the show there isn't a story anymore.
I am a HUGE FAN of OTH!!! I think the show just needs some more DRAMA!!!!
Rachel needs to come back to the show!!!! Plus I think it would be great is Tyler Hilton reprised his role as Chris Keller for an occasional show. Keller=Hysterical!!
As of GG, well I think it will get better. I cant wait for them to start college!!! Blair and nate are my favorite characters and C and B are the best couple of the show!

One Tree Hill, on't be any good this season, because it isn't one tree hill without P.Sawyer and Lucas, like WTF ?, whoever is making One Tree Hill is a TOOL for cutting out tow of the best people, Half of the time all the drama on the show is about Leyton, so why cut them out, STUPID and a bunch of TOOLS they have working for the show

it didnt hold my attention as well as it did before.

and one tree hill can be one tree hill without lucas and peyton. i was never a big fan of lucas, and with them gone it is a little wierd- but just amazing. if you really think about it, peyton and lucas have been boring for awhile. im glad they got there happy ending. but im really glad lucas is gone.
the show since the first episode has been about lucas/nathan/dan… but now it is so much more. since season 5, i think it has been mainly about nathan/haley/jamie and those are my favorite characters, so i think season 7 will be one of the best ones yet!

Ok well I love Gossip Girl but I do have to be honest here that when I was all excited to see the new season. I watch the new episode. Nothing EXCITING really happened like I thought it would be. I mean like not much Gossip Girl action or any real exciting gossip or drama really happened. So I don't really know what to say about it.

I was totally in class but still ran home to see the end of GG ! I also waited like 3 days for them to put the full episode up on their website. I love GG.
Its only the first episode of GG remember, I think a lot more will happen.
