Beyowulf must be very proud!
Jay-Z's new album, The Blueprint 3, hit number one on the Billboard 200 charts this week selling over 476,000 copies.
And that's not unusual for the rapper, considering this is his 11th album to hit the top spot, which makes him the most successful solo artist since Elvis Presley!!!
Good thing he didn't follow through with retirement!
Just eight more number ones to tie with The Beatles!

He is hardly the most successful artist since Elvis. Just because he has had 11 number 1 albums doesn't mean they stayed there and that he has sold as many as Elvis, The Beatles, Michael Jackson or Madonna. Hardly. And he certainly hasn't had as many Top 40 singles as any of them.
And anyway, eeeeck. No offense to his fans, but God, every song sounds like the one before it - crappy rap with beats he samples from other artists.
I agree with angedemusique.. our generation is pathetic. Just listen to popular radio hits these days or check out the Billboard 100 and compare it to elsewhere in the world. Europeans embrace all kinds of music, but here it's Hip-Hop or nothing. Pathetic, indeed.

He's talking about artists having the most number of albums to reach #1 on the Billboard top albums charts. The Beatles have the most with 18. Elvis was the 2nd with 10 until Jay-Z released his latest one. Leave it to the folks at PH to not make it clearer.

you really can't say that he "beat" elvis because they weren't accurately tracking record sales when elvis first came out. Modern sales recording began in the US in 1991, when retailers began transmitting sales reports electronically to Nielsen SoundScan. Before then, Billboard's charts relied on rankings rather than absolute sales figures from record stores. SoundScan now covers about 95% of music sales in the US.

If the album just came free with a regular ticket then yeah that would be a problem. But it was part of a multi game deal, where the album was probably included in the cost. It costs hardly anything to burn an album so i'm guessing he either took a massive reduction or made a loss on them. Either i way i bet that the cost of the album was included in the price anyway, so it's still a legitimate sale. Besides the actual amount of albums that would have been sold as part of that deal would have been so small it wouldn't have had any effect on the placing of the album in the chart as a whole.
He still deserved that #1 spot

Learn your history before you talk because Elvis reached all audiences, not just white and was one of the first to do so. He was one of the first singers to have hit songs on the pop, rhythm and blues (which were charts that were considered "black music" in those days) AND the country charts. Yes, a lot of his songs were songs before he recorded them and that's why he's considered a song stylist.

And sorry to say, but many other people reached multiple audiences and cross boundaries before Michael. Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry, and Jerry Lee Lewis just to name a few. Do you know anything about music before Michael Jackson was around?
