YouTube May Offer Movie Rentals

Filed under: Film Flickers > YouTube > Business Blitz

youtube-logo.jpg

YouTube is looking to strike a deal with the movie studios to make new-release movies available online.

Inneresting.

According to those familiar with the plan, talks are already underway with Lionsgate, Sony, Warner Bros. and MGM, who already have ad deals with the company.

The idea would be similar to iTunes, where you can view a rental for 24 hours for around $1.99-$3.99.

It sounds like a good idea, but how many people would actually make the transition from iTunes to the video streaming giant?

There's gotta be a competitive element somewhere, right?

Would U watch movie rentals on YouTube???

  5. 5

WHAT'S MORE CONVENIENT IS DVD HQ COPIES CAN BE HAD ON THE STREET FOR $2!! WHO WATCHES MOVIES AT THEATRES THESE DAYS. JUST SAYIN.

  17. 17

There are enough places already to rent movies, dont need another. Amazon, Itunes, Netflix, PS3, XBOX….

  18. 18

iTunes streams the movie while it is downloading too. I rarely have to wait on the full movie to download. ayebeclear.com

  19. 19

i can wait for redbox rentals. i think we all can.

Doesn't matter if you'd pay or not. The competition is what counts. If you're already paying for itunes, prepare to start paying less.

  21. 21

that's a precious plan, but i'm sure they'll quickly switch to a monthly fee either for unlimited or a limited number of rentals (i.e. $20 = 10 rentals/month)… it just makes more sense.

  22. 22

    no one wants to pay

  23. 23

Psh, with iTunes you actually have to download the movie. I'd totally just watch it streaming on Youtube. I'm there enough already.

  24. 24

Hulu.com and Netflix.com have been getting films for ages. Utube is a Johnny come lately, much like Perez.

  25. 25

Hell yes I would! I already watch streaming Netflix right now. I can't afford a Roku player but I still watch on my monitor. I'm hooked. I think YouTube should do it.

  26. 26

    idk.

  27. 27

youtube is already boring - then there will be less reasons to go there - oh i forgot - as a german i'm not allowed to watch most oft the videos as our collecting society and google are in war. so (it's been 6 months - yes, welcome to china), i can't really say if the videos i can't see anymore are still there. but it's boring ever since google took youtube over.
i want to watch music videos - no films.

  28. 28

ppssh youtube freezes enough so.. no

  29. 29

Um, not everyone is on iTunes. Or on Netflix. I would watch from You Tube. And I'm willing to bet that future generations will be more than willing to do so.

Do you even know what you are talking about? It's not like switching cable companies or switching from Verizon to Sprint. You can order from one, or the other, or both. What's the big deal? If anything, it's nice to have another option.

  31. 31

    I would do it… I'm so YouTuber

  32. 32

no i wudn't want to wach it on my cumputa..:( sry bad i d er

  33. 33

WHy????Netflix has all the latest & best movies for like $10 a month???

  34. 34

lol…most people get movies for free online

  35. 35

    HELL YEH I WOULD!

  36. 36

    Hellz yah! Renting movies suck…

  37. 37

Perhaps, if it's possible to download the stream.

  38. 38

No, not when I can download bit torrents for free! Isohunt rocks!

  39. 39

Would be a very smart next step in this technology generation! As long as they keep most videos for free I would buy a few new movies…

  40. 40

i would much rather watch it HQ on my whole screen with Itunes rather than watch on YouTube with all those adds and worse quality anyway.

  41. 41

If you want to watch a movie on the computer, there's loads of free sites. Why pay?
