It's official!
Despite much speculation that it would be cancelled or postponed, Kanye West and Lady GaGa have finally and OFFICIALLY announced all the details about their upcoming joint headlining tour.
The outing kicks off November 10th in Phoenix and wraps up January 24th in Dallas.

Los Angeles, CA (September 18, 2009) - Kanye West and Lady Gaga today officially announced dates for one of the most anticipated tours of the year ─ “Fame Kills: Starring Kanye West & Lady Gaga.” After months of planning, the multiplatinum artists will unite for 34 shows in 34 cities that will stretch musical boundaries with their distinctive performance styles and production. “Fame Kills: Starring Kanye West & Lady Gaga” will be produced by Live Nation. “Fame Kills: Starring Kanye West & Lady Gaga” kicks-off at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, AZ on November 10 and runs through January 24 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Kanye West fan club members will have the first opportunity to buy tickets in select markets, beginning Tuesday, September 22nd. I think the tour will sell out (scalpers assure that these days as do record companies and artists holding back a significant amount of the best seats for friends, industry, and yes self scalping for the profit…see April Rolling Stone article about this). Having GaGa on the ticket is a major, major plus and this was even before the Taylor Swift thing. I think Boston, NYC, Seattle, New Orleans, and MN are all missing because the venues that would accomidate (?SP) these two major stars, plus their sets, (and their egos) may already be booked for basketball and hockey or other major events. In the case of NYC and Boston they have scheduled dates within driving distance (NJ and Worcester MA).
Being from Boston I am more familiar with the case here. Worcester is an older secondary concerts facility but the place right in the City, where the major stars (Madonna, REM come quickest to mind) play also is where the Celtics and Bruins play. The problem is that both NYC and Boston are major Public transit and walking cities. Significant portions of the population do not have cars. In Boston 3 significant fan bases the gays, inner city hip hop fans (and yes African Americans a little more so than "white" fans), and college students will not be able to/bother to attend. I will end by saying that power of the sum of these two artists is greater than the power of each individually in the music industry right now.

After the MTV:VMA's incident, I thought this tour was going to be cancelled. It would have been in Lady GaGa's best interest to do so. She is a creative person. Accordingly, GaGa needs a collaborator and not an antagonist as a touring partner. Kanye West has proven to be a control freak. He has to be center stage always! To keep him happy, Lady GaGa would have to stay in the background at all times. Does she really want to assign that role to herself?
