Too Much Of A Good Thing?
Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has announced plans for the band's next album, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, and it's…different to say the least.
Featuring 44 songs, each track will be released one at a time beginning around Halloween and will be available at ZERO cost.
Corgan states:
"Each song will be made available absolutely free, to anyone anywhere. There will be no strings attached. Free will mean free, which means you won't have to signup for anything, give an email address, or jump through a hoop. You will be able to go and take the song or songs as you wish, as many times as you wish.
11 limited edition EPs will be sold featuring 4 songs apiece and a deluxe box set will also be sold after all the songs are released.
Corgan continues:
"I am very committed to seeing this album through to its completion and very, very excited about the prospect of delivering new Smashing Pumpkins music to you in a unique and exciting way."
The free aspect is nice, but 44 songs? Could be overkill.

hell yeah! i watched pumpkins back in da days in chi-town. billy might be a major perfectionist to the point of being obsessed BUT he is a musical genius and an awesome poet. if u don't want them don't get them. he's giving back.

While the smashing pumpkins has been AMAZING in terms of lyrical prose and backing music, someone needs to strangle Mr. Corgan and find a new vocalist, because his hideous caterwauling makes every song of theirs sound like shiz. Its unfortunate because they have a lot of beautiful feelings to convey, and he kills it.

Hell yes! It might be an overkill for some artists to have this many songs, but Smashing Pumpkins are pure genius. You can't have too much of the Pumpkins; and for free at that…can't wait!

I like the idea because most of the songs will be studio songs that didn't make it to an album. The artist have to choose what to put on album and forced to make tough choices. There will be some excellent gems just watch.

How is that overkill? I'll tell you what's overkill. When an artist releases an album with 12 tracks and then releases 5 singles. Think all albums should have 20 songs and release max 3.
I think it's a really good idea. Like he said you can go and pick and choose what songs you want. So what he's REALLY giving fans is their own personal PERFECT Smashing Pumpkins album. Keep the songs you like, leave the ones you don't. I hate getting a new cd and only really liking a few songs on it. This is kick ass!
