Former American Idol finalist Chris Sligh wants the contestants from this past season to know they are worthless and they better get used to it!
He took to his blog to rant about his fellow Idol alum and warn them that their minor success is about to burn out.
Says Sligh:
“You’re not going to be successful. You’re not going to be millionaires (with the exception of MAYBE Kris and Adam). No one will care about you. Those fans who’ve been asking for your autograph all tour long — 98 percent of them don’t give a flying poo about you once next season of ‘Idol’ starts. In other words, your days of being a star are over. But that’s all right — so are mine.”
We give him points for the harsh honesty, but he's coming across as a bit of a Bitter Betty.
Neither Chris Daughtry nor Jennifer Hudson won Idol and they went on to do very VERY well!!

Well honestly the main reason some of the previous American Idol's end up doing well is because from day one day they are surrounded by good PR people. That's just part of it but they also have to have charisma to win the public too. Of course going to American Idol there will be more losers than winners. That's just the way the game is I guess.

he's coming across as a downer to me. plenty of AI alumni have gone on to do things after the show. even if they aren't on the radio or selling out stadiums (which many are)…. they still make albums, do shows, so on. he needs to shut it… just cause he isnt doing anything… annoying.

Yeah but then again, JHud and Daughtry are exceptions. Seriously, Idol is not a star maker, it's a has-been maker. Or, to be more precise, a never-was maker. For every Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson, there are a dozen Justin Guarinis and Ruben Studdards. Chris is speaking the truth here.

No one cared about him in idol anyways. He was horrible.
The best thing to do is to remember it as a great adventure and even if you never reach big time stardom, you will always be a celebrity. When you appear in any club or at any event it will always be, hey, that's the guy from American Idol- le'ts go see him. You will have the fun of local celebrity and be spared of all the pain and pressure of national celebrity. and you know, you never know where your career will lead you so don't think it has to be over- just don't ruin your life by chasing after it.
Yes, former American Idol contestants like Jennifer Hudson and Chris Daughtry succeeded in making big money and fame.
However, with those few exceptions, Chris Sligh is exactly right.
Most former contestants are not (and will not) be making money in the entertainment industry once the AI summer tour ends.
I think he's right on the money. Just think back to all the seasons of American Idol. How many of the contestants can you name? Do you know what they are doing now? Do you care?

Clay Aiken did way better than Reuben… and maybe he is stuck on the "justin and kelly" where Justin did horrible and Kelly did very well and is doing better than most others other than Carrie Underwood. Katherine Mcphee may have a better movie career than singing, but is still doing well. I recently bought David Archuleta's album and Jason Castro's album too. …this guy needs to get facts together and make a different statement.
Oh c'mon, Perez. He's right and you know it. Reality TV is so overwhelming right now. There's only 15 minutes for eveyone, then your time is up. Simple and true. Not everyone in the world can be a celebrity… that would be like communism in a sense. I don't think he sounds bitter at all.

Yeah, I love idol and I barely remember him. He shouldn't try and bash other contestent's dreams just because he didn't succeed. Oh, and about his prediction…I bet Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, Kellie Pickler, etc would disagree with you. It doesn't always have to be the winners either, as America has gotten it wrong a few times.

He's right. Idol winners are not headliners. Anyone who has a career after Idol plays in smaller venues, state fairs, etc. They sells albums because they are the flavor of the month. And read the whole blog instead of what Mario's elves have cut and pasted from another site.

Kellie Pickler and Bucky Covington have also done well for themselves in country music. They both have maybe not HUGE but very solid careers in the genre. If you have IT you have it.
Who is this guy? There are a lot of successful people that have come from Idol. What about Josh Gracin ( big in the country world ) same with Kelly Pickler ( country world ) and as Perez said Chris Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson. He sounds a bit crazy cuz he isnt making it big.

It's about taking advantage of an opportunity. It's not a guarantee but it is exposure. It is what you make of it.

Look, sorry if this comes off mean-but, if this guy lost 50 pounds and got a stylist he would be doing better as an ex idol contestant. He may be a good singer, but looks do matter and he would look so much better if he could lose the weight and fix the hair.
I guess this was a smart move on Chris' part since he has gotten lots of coverage on different web sites. So some "press" is better than no "press". The thing is I think American Idol has kinda snubbed Chris in the past as old news and he is getting back in this "reality" rant.
