Xtina Opens Up About Domestic Abuse

Christina Aguilera may be divalicious, but she has overcome many obstacles to get where she is today!
The singer is opening up in a new TV about the childhood trauma she suffered at the hands of her abusive army sergeant father.
"I witnessed a lot of unpleasant things - a lot of pushing and shoving and fighting and quarrelling. Growing up I did not feel safe. Feeling powerless is the worst feeling in the world. I turned to singing as an outlet. The pain at home is where my love for music came from," said Xtina.
Aguilera's mother, Shelly, left her husband and took the children away from their father when she found 4-year old Christina with blood dripping from her chin.
"I scooped her up and said, 'Oh my God. What's wrong?' She told me, 'Daddy wanted to take a nap and I made too much noise,'" divulged Shelly.
And although her father has since begged to be forgiven, the songstress has no intention to have a relationship with him.
"I let him back into my life briefly but I soon realized that he is not necessary in my life," said Christina.
Thankfully Aguilera has been able to channel her pain into her art and she's sharing her story.

I think Christina needs to forgive her dad, we are not to judge our parents. Its really a shame what her father did, but forgiving him would let her feel free and in control. From my own experience (my father was also abusive) I found that having a grudge against a parent is the worst feeling possible. I never wanted to speak to him in my life. I saw a therapist and gained the strength to forgive him now we have a great relationship. Tina, your father made many awful mistakes, just like any human. Now its your turn to teach him how to love.

I am sorry..but living in abuse until the AGE of 4 does NOT count as "growing up" in an abusive environment. TRY 18 YEARS!!!. Yes..4 years..is bad enough, I do NOT discount that..but do NOT tell me she GREW UP in THAT abusive household she speaks of. I am truly sorry for what she endured in those four years..Thank GOD she had a mother who got them out. I only WISH mine had not stuck around for the long long years she did..with us in tow.

This is serious business. Girls, if your guy is hitting you or your children, LEAVE NOW!. There are shelters and all sorts of places that will take you in while you make an adjustment. GET OUT before you waste years of your life as I did, trying to keep a family together. It is not a family when one person is raging and controlling and beating up others. It is a house of horrors. Get out while you can and get back your self respect and carry on, without that. It is really really worth it, I can tell you.

The thing I've never understood about Christina is that she boasts and goes on about her Latin heritage/ethnicity but yet that blood comes from the parent who she swears to hate and never speak to again. Kinda weird.
i love that she speaks about this - and speaks often about it, and i hope it pushes more people to seek help.

Yeah i do find it odd that she boasts about her hispanic heritage, yet her father is the hispanic parent of the two. maybe just because she hates her father, doesn't mean she has to hate her nationality as a whole? i'm sorry she had to endure 4 years of that, my father was emotionally AND physically abusive for most of my life. when i hit my teen years, the physical abuse stopped, but the emotional abuse continued. and to all you who say "forgive" …it's hard. i honestly feel no love whatsoever for my father. to me he is scum…he is self-centered, cold hearted, and just plain rude.
and something else too, my father is ECUADORIAN, just like christina's dad is. weird huh? but i am not ashamed of my hispanic heritage, although i don't really feel hispanic. my father makes me feel like such an outcast on his side of the family. my skin is lighter (i have a german/ukrainian mother) and what's worse, he didn't even teach me the spanish language! but i do have hispanic blood, and i do have the hispanic personality (stubborn, bad temper, etc).

As soon as she experienced the slightest bit of local fame she let everyone know she was going to be famous and they were all beneath her. She's a bitch and her mom's a whack job!

I did. It was ignored. That's why I started writing too. Always an abuser always an abuser don't let them back in your life. They will say they changed. Rarely is that true. Worse when it's your parents. You have to cut ties or you start back in the cycle of abuse again. It's a hard road. Wouldn't wish it upon no one.

Is her face a little puffy or is it just me? She has been so irrelevant since Max was born. I think she is just trying to get some attention. Noone wanted to see her ugly tot. She is having weight problems and when was the last time she had a song? The only reason she has remained in the news the last few years was bc of her rediculous outfits(ahhmm Gaga) which she has decided to clean up her act since Max was born so she is failing to do that now.

She left her dad when she was only 4 yrs old. She probably doesnt even remember the alledged abuse. She didnt live a lifetime of abuse like other people do that have to endure abuse for years during their childhood, teen years and even as adults from their parents.
She's so strong and I admire her for what she's been able to accomplish in her life.

And for him to want back into her life, you have to wonder, and yes, this might sound harsh, if he wants in for the money, or to make up for the horrible man he was, and might still be???? Someone that hits you DOES NOT love you!!!!! Remember that!!! Also, verbal abuse can ruin a person's inner being, and cause so much hardship as a young adult becomes an older adult…. it's hard to lose the words you hear from that person, and it's hard to keep them out of your daily exsistance!!

That is such a sad story! I love her song "The Right Man" on Back To Basics. She puts so much of herself in her music. I am so happy for her that she has worked through her trauma and found a man that treats her well. She is a great example that victims of domestic violence can overcome!
