Judged & Be Judged Says Ellen

Her new gig on American Idol still has some people in a tizzy, concerned Ellen DeGeneres isn't the right fit for the show.
We tell them to shut their effing mouths! She is going to be BRILLIANT!
Ellen is obviously a lot nicer than we are, so she attempts to explain on her show today that her position as judge on this upcoming season of American Idol is an ideal fit for her, saying:
"Apparently, there's a lot of debate going on right now, whether I'm qualified or not to be the new judge on 'American Idol'… I'll tell you right now, how I know I'm going to be a great judge — because I've spent my whole life being judged. So, I know what it's like. So, I will be kind. I will be compassionate. I will be empathetic, and I will be truthful. I will be an honest judge without being mean."
She goes on further to report that she isn't listening to what the haters have to say and avoids any kind of media in which she could hear what the critics have to say. One person she isn't ignoring, however, is Paula Abdul, who spoofed the talk show host on her hosting gig at VH1 Divas. Ellen had a message to send back to Paula: "I have nothing but love for you too Paula — but I want my wig back. I really do. Give it back."

I wouldn't necessarily call Paula an "expert." I know she was in the industry, but it's not like she was a titan of singing. I think Ellen will bring fun, entertainment, and ratings to the show, which is exactly what they want. They have people to comment on the technical side of things, so she will be a refreshing change. Ellen is a wonderful person and I think it was a good move for AI and her!

I agree with many of the comments here - Paula, in my opinion, was no singer either! I never thought she was there because she had the ability to judge vocal ability. She is/was a great dancer and a minor celebrity, but that's about it. Ellen is a great judge of character and what the American public will like. I will actually watch the show this year now that she's on it.

I think Ellen will be a good judge, but lets be clear, ou're not nly judged because you're gay, you've been on TV for 30 years. . .that brings a lot of judgement.

I am confused as to why having one person on a 4 person panel who is the voice of a normal person is bad? She is the voice of a normal person just listening and who buys records. There are already 4 qualified music people on the board so why not Ellen? And that woman knows her music. To her, it will either sound good or it wont.

It's not my kind of show, but I do kind of keep up with what's going on from time to time. Actually having Ellen on Idol, will make me more inclined to what this season. I think she will be great. She is a very generous, classy lady from everything I've ever seen or read about her. Good luck to Ellen, and the whole show. I think it was time to shake things up a bit.
I can say i will watch my first full season on AI because of Ellen. She is probably the funniest person alive. She will do amazing. i love Ellen

I think Paula was a huge asset to the show, it will definitely be different without her, but I think Ellen will do a great job, she's funny as hell and I'm sure there will definitely be quarrels with Simon. So lets wait, watch and then we can be the judges!!!
Yes, Ellen….you will be a FABULOUS judge and I for one cannot wait for it to happen! She will bring a wonderful new breath of air to this stale show. I was over tuning into it this year until they made the 2 greatest moves….getting rid of that gasbag Paula and hiring Ellen. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Never listen to the haters Ellen. I love Ellen in this role- its gonna set Simon on his knees- because she will kill him with kindness! And Why not have a regular person as a judge? It makes total sense.
Ellen is going to give the show a new spin. Mix it up. It won't be the same, and that is a GOOD thing. It'll bring a second life to the show, in a way, because people will be watching things differently and might start to, well, actually watch again.

I adore Ellen! She's going to be great! And we'll be laughing WITH her instead of AT her as the majority of viewers did with Paula! (who is amazing in her own right, just a little off at times!)

I love Ellen. She is a very funny woman, and I'm sure she feels vindicated to have this much popularity and respect after having been exiled from the entertainment world last decade for coming out of the closet. Regardless, she simply has no place as a judge on American Idol. That would be like letting Zac Efron play for the LA Lakers because he's a fan and has enormous popularity (although he probably knows more about playing basketball than Ellen knows about being a performing vocalist).
I know it must be hard to find a qualified person to do it because most of those qualified people are too busy with their music careers to dedicate that kind of time. Maybe they could have tapped someone like Toni Braxton for that, instead.

ELLEN WILL BE A FANTASTIC JUDGE. I haven't watched the show since Daughtry was a contestant. I just lost interest. I might turn it on just to see how Ellen responds to contestants but I probably won't watch a complete season.
