Sydney Sky Turns RED!!!!

kate2-600x400.jpg

Your eyes are not deceiving you! If you don't believe us, head to Twitter and see the hundreds of people talking about it!

People in Sydeny, Austraila woke this morning to see a deep reddish haze unlike anything they have ever seen before. And weather experts are amazed as well!

But how can this be?!

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Jane Golding says that the color comes from an exorbitant amount of dust that has collected in the area, saying:

"The reason for the dust is we had some really strong winds in the inland areas of NSW and in South Australia for a sustained period yesterday. That's lifted a whole lot of dust off the ground because it's quite dry out there, many of those areas are still drought affected…I've not seen anything like this before."

She also pointed out that the reddish haze is expected to fade as the sun gets higher in the sky, changing from "a crimson red to orange by about 7am."

A severe weather warning has gone out across the city, as the dust has made visibility terrible and the winds carrying this reddish dust are as high as 60km/h and expected to get worse!!!

This is just crazy! It looks like the "end of days" over there!!!

I live in Sydney, the wind woke me up at around 6:00 AM, I looked out of the window and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. My city was RED!!! and ORANGE. I went out to the balcony and I had never EVER seen anything like that. EVERYONE in the other apartment were in their balconies looking on. Then I turned on the news to see what was happening. It was a dust storm, it scared the hell out of me.

it's 5:10pm here in sydney and everything's back to normal now yay!

woke up at 6:30am and suddenly hated my family coz i thought they'd left me sleeping during a bushfire which we know is very common in the land down under…and then i thought, nah…i've just finally died and gone straight to my penthouse in hell on an escalator.

      haha. we're all good now!!!

people dont panic, here in europe it happens often. We do not have a desert. But sometimes we get the sand from the Sahara, ans the sky turns always red-orange depending on how high the sand is. At the next morning you can see on the lawn or the tops and windows of the cars the sand.

So i dont now if the sand in the desert in australia is redish, thats why it turned out to be really red like in the picture.

The only thing you have to do is clean a bit more the next time some of those storms happens.

And next time try to take cool pics of it ;)

I'm from the Gold Coast.. It looked so prettty, orange glow.. like a vintage photo :D ,, except it ruined my car which i washed and polished the day before lol.

    14. 114

Crazy.. looks like something from Flash Gordon.

    15. 115

its happening all day in brisbane too! dust was everywhere… the sun was even looking blue! definitally end of days feelings…

    16. 116

Yeah… As many have pointed out, you spelt Sydney wrong… and Australia as well for that matter. You might want to check your spelling next time. I mean, two words in a row? And not difficult ones either.

Second of all. OMG! I woke up at 7 am this morning and saw everthing orange and I thought I was dreaming.
I pinched myself and realised I was awake…. And then I thought it was the end of the world. It was FREAKY.
So then I went back to sleep until 2 PM :P

it's just the dusts, don't worry“..

    24. 124

      whoa!!!

    25. 125

The sky turns red over a continent, and all you people care about is a typo? Seriously? How many of you know the difference between their, they're, and there? Or accepted and excepted? If you hate Perez so terribly much, there are many other gossip websites on the internet. Otherwise, each time you visit this site you just help him charge more for advertisements. Hilarious.

    26. 126

AUSTRALIA IS SO LUCKY i wish England would have a massive red sand storm

    27. 127

You should see the aftermath now. All the red is gone in the sky but everything is still covered in red dust! It's hilarious! My dad's had to wash his electric blue car like 5 times cos the dust is still blowing onto it.

    28. 128

holy fuck, how did i not know about this? well, i guess i do love in melbourne, not sydney lol…

    29. 129

      *LIVE, not love :P

    30. 130

my mum just told me that there was a massive one in melbourne in 1983… its just when the win is coming from the north and starts pushing all the dust towards the outer cities…

    31. 131

Crazy weather all over the planet. What have we done, oh mother earth :)

    32. 132

Re: ahlrichs09 – you're talking about Perez not spelling Australia right and u spell misspelled like "misspelt"….. i think you need to check yourself before you try to critisize others.

    33. 133

      WHOA!!!!
