Golden Girl's Emmy For Sale On Ebay!
Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & True
This is just wrong.
A seller that specializes in fine art is trying to auction off Estelle Getty's Emmy for $15,000 on eBay.
Some people will do anything to make a buck these days!
The deceased actress won the Emmy in question in 1988 for her role as Sophia on The Golden Girls.
Luckily, The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is working to have the auction of the trophy removed.
Academy VP Laurel Whitcomb, says "When the Emmy winner wins, they sign a form acknowledging the statue is a loan and can keep it as long as they desire. But if they part with it, they must give it back to the Academy. We've taken steps to have it taken off the market and retrieved."
We're sure the Academy will get their request.

how did the seller get the trophy in the first place?
"Some people will do anything to make a buck these days!"
Yeah, true. Well not everyone works as hard for their money as you do, mario. You fuck
#1. If you win something doesn't it becomes yours? #2. How in the world did this person get the Emmy? and finally #3. Did she not have family that it could have been given to after her death? Why should an Emmy winner have to give back something they won, I don't get that at all, it is theirs, they won it, if I had won the lottery do you think I would give back the money…….ummm NO! LOL, Hollywood and their crazy ass rules.
how much for her vibrator?
Well, I do not agree with the Academy. If a person wins it, they win it and should be able to do with it as they please. If the seller has it, it must have come their way from Getty and he/she should be able to sell it if they so chose.
I have to say Perez I don't agree with either you or the Academy, in my opinion if you win it it is yours and if you leave it to someone after you die it is theirs to do with it as they will, even if, shock horror, that involves selling it on e-Bay. Following the post-Live 8 Bob Geldof ticket scandal (which for the record I thought was a complete disgrace, on Geldof's side) there is this opinion out there that e-Bay and people who sell on it are the big nasty. Perez you owe your entire career to the internet, but yet here you are running down people who are using it for theirs.
Estelle Getty's Emmy is a piece of television history and I see absolutely nothing wrong with it being sold on e-bay for $15,000 and I have to wonder if you would have the same views if it were being sold at Christies. After all in their 1999 Marilyn Monroe auction they even sold the woman's used tights, make-up, cookware, cheque books, pretty much her entire life and no one complained.
Disgracful all around!
Who cares, she's dead, she doesn't need it. Sell that shit.
Re: JigSaw – hahahahaha-GROSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If i were family i would never sell it. This is one of the most important moment of her live. So sad.
D: makes me so sad someone would steal an emmy from sex in the city
Disgusting… It should rightfully go back to the Academy. Selling an award is like selling your dignity. I understand Estelle is gone, but shouldn't the award be put somewhere in her honour where the public can see it???
Re: Aquarius71 – Well you have to understand they do that to prevent exactly this situation, to someone trying to sell the award…. the Oscars have the same procedures of receiving back the awards after the person died!!
