NFLer And Equal Rights Advocate!

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayZportzLGBT

Happy to have someone like him supporting the cause!

NFL Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo has come out in support of same-sex marriage, providing some strong and powerful opinions on the topic.

He recently wrote an editorial, stating:

“We will look back in 10, 20, 30 years and be amazed that gays and lesbians did not have the same rights as everyone else…If Britney Spears can party it up in Vegas with one of her boys and go get married on a whim and annul her marriage the next day, why can’t a loving same-sex couple tie the knot? How could our society grant more rights to a heterosexual one-night-stand wedding in Vegas than a gay couple that has been together for three, five, 10 years of true love? The divorce rate in America is currently 50 percent. I am willing to bet that same-sex marriages have a higher success rate than heterosexual marriages.”

Bravo! Well said!

We don't really follow football, but we sure are rooting for the Ravens this season!!!

To commemorate his work, Brendon also attended an event last week sponsored by Equality Maryland, where David Tothm Equality Maryland's interim executive director, praised Ayanbadejo’s public stance on the issue: “While not all of us are pro-footballers, one can never underestimate the power of just one voice to change hearts and minds, whether it’s your own family or millions of adoring fans.”

So true!

dont know who he is but he talks sense!

  2. 2

This is awesome… Good for him!!

  3. 3

Perez ur such a fkn brown noser. Did u have to go to espn.com in order to know what position he played or better yet, what team he plays for? Wow. i'd be amazed if u can name five more of his team mates without searching it online.

  4. 4

    Good for him!!!

  5. 5

I'd let that linebacker take me down any day. Good Lord.

  6. 6

    He's Gay!

  7. 7

    Ravens suck. STEELERS BABY!!!!!

  8. 8

He makes a very valid point here. Miss Spears more or less thinks marriage is some kind of joke while others who can't get married might take it a little more seriously and respect their vows more…

  9. 9

Way to represent us in Baltimore Ayanbadejo, we couldn't be happier to have you as a part of our team. Such class for a young man. GO RAVENS!

  10. 10

That is a rather gay looking "tribal" tatoo on his arm…..but there still has not been a active NFL player to come out.

  11. 11

It makes sense and I love that he is defending same-sex marriage, but there's no reason to diss Britney.

  12. 12

You know I don't that was really brave of him I don't know if I could have said it any better myself. One of these days our children will learn about how backwards our present society is on this issue and they will think how could they have treated gays that way just like when I learned about Rosa Parks being told she had to ride in the back of the bus. Perez I do not agree with everything you say but keep up the work on advocating gay rights!!!

  13. terp says – reply to this

    GO RAVENS!!! My hometown team

  14. 14

Hummm, maybe it's called christianity and the bible. dunno, but that might be the issue. i mean truly. why can't a guy or gal marry their dog? heck, why not let my dog marry a foreinger so they can have USA rights. that is even better. what's to stop anything the bible didn't preach. i missed when Moses wnated to do a dude.

  15. 15

AND he's hot too! Good for him! We need more real men in sports. :-)

  16. 16

Re: jackson2 – maybe its called seperation of church and state…..idiot

  17. 17

why does he have to bring britney into this

  18. 18

its nice that he said this but really??? like you shouldnt really bring other people into it. britney can do whatever the hell she wants k?

  19. 19

    Well said!!! GO RAVENS!!!!

and I would love to be his tight end! OKAYYYY!

  20. 20

Re: jackson2 – "what's to stop anything the bible didn't preach."….are you suggesting that eating shelfish should be made illegal too?

  21. 21

    he's absolutely right.

  22. 22

That takes balls, good for him!

  23. 23

um that sounds totally facetious to me

  24. 24

isn't that the guy who said he hated gays on a radio interview? way to suck the "i'm an advocate now" dick

  25. 25

Re: jackson2 – please just go away, far far away

  26. 26

Re: jackson2 – If marriage is a religious institution, then our government shouldn't even recognize it. Is that what you want? No homosexual marriages because marriages would strictly be in churches and wouldn't be legally recognized at all? I can't help but be immature and call you a fucking idiot, because that's what you are. This is about equal rights under the law. Are dogs citizens? ARE DOGS FUCKING CITIZENS? Fucking idiot.

  27. 27

  28. 28

Re: jackson2 – dont compare homosexuality to bestiality….ignorant fool!

  29. 29

Re: jackson2 – You moron it is called seperation of church and state if you want to live in a theocracy go to Iran and see how they run their country. There is actually a book based on a guy who lived the Bible to the word for a year you should read it. The title is The Year of Living Biblically. As for me I enjoy having the freedom of making up my own mind when it comes to religion. We are getting closer to the day when gays have equal rights just like the rest of us.

  30. 30

I have always supported his baseball team. Go team! Rah!

  31. LSD says – reply to this

WOW!!! That was beautifully spoken! Well said my good man. Well said….

  32. 32

omg people, supporting gay rights doesnt make someone gay. stop being fucking hicks

  33. 33

ps stop using the bible as the reason gay people cant get married. its called separation of church and state. citizen's rights are not to be based on what the bible or any other religion says.

  34. 34

Ayanbadedjo is not gay…but he is very involved in our community here in Baltimore. Great athletic, and overall great stand up guy.

  35. 35

Lmao, "we don't know football". What a surprise. You're such a fucking stereotype.

  36. chlyn says – reply to this

He makes a great point. Yay, well said!

  37. 37

    Well said!

    Re: jackson2

    Deuteronomy 22:20-24:

"20 "But if this charge is true, that the girl was not found a virgin,

21 then they shall bring out the girl to the doorway of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death because she has committed an act of folly in Israel by playing the harlot in her father's house; thus you shall purge the evil from among you.

22 "If a man is found lying with a married woman, then both of them shall die, the man who lay with the woman, and the woman; thus you shall purge the evil from Israel.

23 "If there is a girl who is a virgin engaged to a man, and another man finds her in the city and lies with her,

24 then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city and you shall stone them to death; the girl, because she did not cry out in the city, and the man, because he has violated his neighbor's wife. Thus you shall purge the evil from among you."

Yes, we should all listen to what the bible has to say about marriage. I can think of no greater example of wisdom and logic. Lol.

Re: jackson2 – Which part of consent dont you understand you nutjob christian moron?!?!? YOUR DOG CANNOT CONSENT TO MARRIAGE, 2 ADULTS CAN, is that so hard to understand? CHILDREN CANT CONSENT, THEREFORE CANNOT MARRY, NEITHER CAN ANIMALS, use what tiny amount of intelligence you have to get that through your head ok?

    You're an idiot!

    # 40
Thank you.. Thank you.. Thank you
Most of the archaic and unrealistic "stories" in the Bible are not
applicable, or sane, for life in the 21st century.

  44. 44

Re: jackson2 – you are a tool!!! Your logic is just plain idiotic and I pity any children you might have, passing on your stupid retarded genes. You're also a shining example of why the USA still has such a loooong way to go when it comes to equal rights.

But back to the topic at hand, bravo to this guy. A very thoughtful, articulate and INTELLIGENT statement. And bravo for proving that not all footballers are meatheads.

  45. 45

I'm impressed by Brendon Ayanbadejo's nicely stated opinions.
    Yay, Brendon

  46. 46

    Right on!

  47. 47

    Thank you Mr. Ayanbadejo!

  48. 48

I agree with what he said, but I always find something I HATE about what you say in every one of your posts. You are so that person who follows a team just cause whoever is hot at the moment plays on it. LOser.

  49. 49

Re: jackson2 – When you die, I'm going to have gay sex on your grave.

  50. 50

Re: jackson2 – Uhm. Please just stop talking.
Ok - I consider myself fairly religious. I also have many gay friends. I ALSO support their decisions to run THEIR lives according to THEIR own belief system. Yes, it's called separation of church/state, but it's ALSO called being a loving and accepting human being.
One of my best friends in the world is a gay man. I can't wait to go to his wedding one day soon! We WILL attain equal rights for all, and people like you bigoted closed minded fools will be just as embarrassed of your ignorant statements as I am right now that you are broadcasting your stupidity as "Christianity and the Bible." It's not. Jesus taught to LOVE all our brothers and sisters. ALL of them.

  51. 51

Re: SoulEse – "rather gay looking "tribal" tatoo [sic]" is a bigoted thing to say. If the tattoo says "I am gay"… then that's a gay looking tattoo! By the way, the man also sports nipple ring(s?) popular with many of the heterosexual, tribal tat loving crowd.

  52. 52

Get an updated picture. He's wearing a Chicago Bears helmet (the team he used to play for).

  59. 59

    Re: jackson2

Look it's jackson2, Everybody laugh at the dumbass! I don't remember anything about moses learning about gravity, pennicillian, or cars either. OMG THE BIBLE HASN'T TAUGHT US EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW!!! HOLY SHIT SOMEONE CALL A THEOLOGIST. If you even know what that is you dumb fuck.

  60. 60

Too bad the divorce rate isn't really 50% dumbass.

The total number of divorces every year equals half the number of new marriages every year….that's isn't 50% of all marriage.

Unfortunately not everybody has attended a sociology class.

  61. 61

    Re: candycaynegirl
well perhaps ur gay too and i doubt that ur at all religious if u really do support gay marriage, i believe that homosexuality is all sorts of wrong and i am a christian and love everybody as Jesus wants me to and i believe it is the responsibility of every christian to love homosexuals enough to not allow them to carry on living a lie!!! the only reason why the people who oppose gay marriage do so is because deep down inside they oppose homosexuality itself but have learnt to tolerate it!! marriage on the other hand is taking it too far!! when will people wake up and take responsibilty and remove the delusions of homosexuality, it is a fucking lie just like smoking!! it is learned behaviour that becomes such an ingrained habit that you think its normal and can't see through the lie!

  62. 62

WOW. That is really unusual for any man in pro sports to speak up like that! GREAT JOB. Equal rights, Civil rights, they all fly under the same banner…it all is encompassed by the phrase "All men are created equal…" Why does it take some so long to get it? REALLY PROUD of this guy…forwarding to my 12 yr old football playing son…

  63. 63

    Sexy and smart. Yummy.

  64. 64

Ahhhhh… Perez Stay away from my team douche!

Re: sjasper – It's not up to you to decide whether it's right or wrong. This isn't ab out whether it's right or wrong at all. This is about EQUAL PROTECTION UNDER THE LAW. You can consider their marriages unholy, immoral and invalid all YOU want, as long as they're allowed to get their legal benefits.

  70. 70

    Re: sjasper

When are religious people going to realize that they can't govern the lives of other people based on their own superstitions?

  71. 71

WAY TO GO! Finally a pro football player does some good. Well spoken too!

  72. 72

    Re: Myzaree
of course its about right or wrong, the question of rights for homosexuals would not exist if homosexuality did not exist and the facct of the matter is that a lot of people still do not belive it to be natural!! and thats not about discrimination at all, homosexuality has never been proven to be natural. by no means am i saying that the feelings that gay people have to their own gender are not real or are invalid, there is a reason for those feelings and if they dealt with the cause rather than indulging in the feelings and trying to change society and going againts the wisdom of societies that have come before us then that would be progress…you only need to assess the realities of gay culture and not the one you see in "will and grace" to realise that a gay life is not in the best ineterests of anybody, any gay person would tell you that they would switch to straight if they could. well they can if they understood the cause rather than believing in the lie that they were born that way and can't do anything about it, thats the lie of the "gay agenda".

  73. 73

    Re: Cattac
its got nothing to do with religion or superstition, its got to do with natural law, logic and statistics! don't be fooled by the happy gay life style portrayed in "will and grace", look at the unhealthy, promiscous and shallow reality that is the gay lifestyle where people are dying every day from sexually transmitted diseases and depression all because the people behind the "gay agenda" refuse to admit that homosexuals are not born that way and want to sink with as many people as they can by convincing them that they were born that way. u think that religious people believe in superstition well how do u justify the "born that way" lie that gay people live by!!

  74. 74

    Re: sjasper

I am a Catholic. I went to catholic elementary and high school. I was an alter server for 10 years. I find that most people who identify themselves as christians take it upon themselves to speak for God, which is not wise if you consider history, both general history and biblical history. It is not up to you to decide who is living a lie. Only God can judge people so I suggest you stay out of it. If two people of the same sex want to get married that is their right as equal citizens of the United States of the America, and members of the HUMAN race (so don't even bring in that tired dog and car argument, because it makes people like you look even dumber than you already do.). If God thinks homosexuality is wrong then let him deal with it as he pleases when their judgement day comes. Until then mind your own business and protect people from harm and stop pushing your beliefs on everyone else. Just because I'm a Catholic and you are a Christian and some one else is Jewish doesn't mean we all have to believe the same things. I believe that my God, and my Lord want me to be loving and accepting while I am on this Earth. (By the way accepting people doesn't mean picking and choosing what you like about people, it is about accepting them for who they are.) I suggest you re-read the Good Samaritan, or perhaps the entire Bible considering you seem to have misunderstood the message so badly, and learn some COMPASSION.

  75. 75

Also, on another note, what some people believe and what all people believe are two very different things you uneducated FOOL. Just because some people believe something doesn't mean ALL people have to, or will. The world is changing with or without you. Deal.

  76. 76

    Re: sjasper

by the way I am straight and you should also know that less and less gay men contract AIDS every year and that the other part of gay & lesbian, the lesbians contract less sexually transmitted diseases a year than straight people. Also lesbians have never had any fatal diseases swimming around in their community. So there goes your next argument. Oh and natural selection? What about genetic disorders? Or Cancer? Or accidental death? It happens to straight people more than gays, just in diferent forms. Another stupid point that holds ZERO water, makes you look even more moronic. Come to the plate an argue once you get a valid argument, sophmore.

  77. 77

I think I have a little bit of a crush on him.

  78. 78

    Re: UMWolverine
i guess ur way of proving a point is by calling another person a moron rather than actually saying something of substance..i happen to be catholic too and i also happen to have been both straight and gay so i know what i'm talking about more than you think but u seem more interested in trying to show me that you have a brain by insulting me rather than understanding what i'm actually trying to say and i f you really think that not suporting homosexuality as a catholic means that you're being judgmental then ur whole understanding of what it means to be a catholic or christian means is delusional, i guess mea and all the priests and the pope in the catholic church have misinterprated what catholism is in denouncing this lifestyle and wanting to save people and you are right!! o please save us idiot!!

  79. 79

    Re: UMWolverine
oh and also since u seem to know soooo much about being a catholic, its interesting that u forget that one of the most vital parts of being a christian is to share the good news and preach the message of God, i can understand anyone who would be against that if they were not christian as they don't believe in it anyway but to call yourself a catholic and judge me for doing what is asked of me is plain wrong and thats not me judging you, it is part of your faith so if your not happy about that don't judge me, you have the choice to not be a catholic! the church is crystal clear on their stand regarding homosexuality. i didn't write the bible, i'm only trying to leave by it and not in the selective way in which you obviously choose to!!

  80. 80

Everything I said was of substance whether you agree with it or not. I did not once swear at you, but yes I do believe in your case that you indeed are a moron. So technically it's not name calling if it's in-fact what you are. I do believe in sharing the good news but I don't believe in shoving it down others throats. As for doing what you are told to do: I'm sorry where exactly in the bible does it say that your job in particular is to tell gays and lesbians that they can't marry each other? Do voices talk to you? As for cardinals, priests, and the pope, I do remember a man named Jesus who spoke of a kind, gentle, accepting God unlike the one in the Torah aka Old Testament. All the high priests of his time disagreed with a lot of his beliefs too.

  81. 81

    Re: sjasper

Let's ostracize, bully, and condemn gays, and then when they develop emotional problems that lead to self-destructive behavior we'll just blame it on homosexuality! Self-fulfilling prophecies are great for business.

What's illogical about homosexuality? The fact that they can't procreate? Then is it illogical for a man and woman who won't/can't have children to be married? Human relationships are based on attraction, not the opportunity to spread their genes.

As far as natural law goes, there are several documented instances of homosexual and bisexual behavior in animals with far less mental capacity than humans (i.e. instinctual, not emotional). How does it get any more natural than that?

The "born that way" argument is justified by the personal experience of hundreds of thousands of people. If that's not enough proof, then I say that all straight people are born bisexual, but they choose to act only on their attraction for the opposite gender in order to fit in more easily. You can't give me any proof to the contrary.

  82. 82

AWESOME! It is sooo refreshing to see a pro athlete speaking out in defense of equality; which normally, let's be honest, they seem to be pretty big homophobes normally. ("Oh no, a gay guy in the locker room! He might attack!" Give me an f'ing break!)
Good for this guy! Rock on!

  83. 83

Re: sjasper – "… any gay person would tell you that they would switch to straight if they could."
Hear this loud and clear: I have no interest in changing the way God made me. Nor do you. God made me gay and gay I will stay!
You make it very clear your brand of God has little holy function. When did you convert to a homophobic zealot?

  84. 84

I think that it is great that a young man who is involved with the NFL can take such an openminded position on gay marriage. And as for as his statement that he bets that more same sex marriages last than heterosexual marriages, he may be on to something. Massachusetts recently celebrated the 5 year anniversary of allowing homosexual the right to marry. And Mass is currently the state with the lowest divorce rate in the country. As a matter of fact, their divorce rates are the same as the were before WWII.

  85. 85

Re: sjasper – living a lie? your posts are full of all kinds of lies and judgment (on MY own personal faith and orientation no less?) i have my own beliefs but am not SELF IMPORTANT enough to think that i have the right to JUDGE and CONDEMN others, let alone TELL THEM that their sexual orientation is a "learned behavior" and a habit? LIKE SMOKING????? You clearly have NO IDEA what you're talking about and are hiding your ignorance and your own self hatred behind a false veil of righteousness and judgment.
Frankly it's none of your business or mine OR the government's who someone falls in love with and starts a family with. Period.
I didn't realize that God appointed you to judge on his behalf! Personally, I thought he could handle it himself. But no, sounds like you know better. Carry on, pharisee.

  86. 86

    GO RAVENS!!!!!

  87. 87

Bravo. I couldn't have said it better myself. The concept of marriage has been made into such a joke. People can just get married on a whim and not understand what kind of commitment they've made. Or they can just get divorced on a whim when the road becomes bumpy and either one is completely fine in today's society. BUT if a homosexual couple which is truly in love wants to get married, all hell breaks lose. Its like people are losing sleep over such a non-issue. A gay couple getting married doesn't hurt anyone. Hell, It might even lower the overall divorce rate in this country. Over half of all heterosexual marriages end in divorce. I'm also willing to bet that only 15-25 percent of heterosexual people who get married stay faithful to their spouses over the course of their marriages. These backwards bigots are trying to cling on to something that's been made in to a complete joke by the very same people who's morals they're trying to defend. Hypocrites.
