Whoopi Is Not Impressed With Suzanne Somers

In the wake of Patrick Swayze's death, Suzanne Somers was quoted saying some very controversial remarks regarding the late actor's cancer treatments. Close friend to Patrick, Whoopi Goldberg, had some words for Suzanne on Tuesday's episode of The View:

"In case she doesn't know, Patrick did everything and went everywhere to try and stay healthy as long as he could. That he's been gone a week and this statement came out is bad timing and bad taste and Suzanne, you should know better. And I'm not sure that's what you meant to do, but you should have thought about it."

We agree!

However Suzanne has addressed the unfortunate misunderstanding on her website and she does sound very apologetic:

"In a casual conversation at a private party (with someone who never identified himself as a reporter) at the Toronto Film Festival last week, I was asked about this beloved actor. It was never my intention to make an official statement about his passing. I was not informed or aware I was being interviewed. I would never have been so insensitive as to offer a public statement so close to his untimely passing. I sincerely apologize if my comment has caused any additional pain to his family during this difficult time. I send my deepest condolences for their loss."

You have to be more careful who you're blabbing to, especially about such a sensitive issue!

You just never know who could be listening!

RIP Patrick, May you dance on the clouds and have the time of your life!

pig face, enough! let the fucking guy rest already! you even have a fucking ad on the side seelling some book about him or something. christ sake. what is it with you and dead people, and jon and kate?!?!?! let go!!!!!

  3. 3

Yes, Perez, you should have been more careful blabbing about Michael Jackson "faking it"…especially about "such a sensitive issue." Fuck you if you think you think you can give ANY moral advice on this disgusting website. You are the BIGGEST (no pun intended) pot calling the kettle black ALWAYS. So happy you can preach these rules but don't live up them yourself.

i dont agree with either of them. 1.whoopi is wrong- because patrick got cancer from smoking, which he countined to do until his death. so obviously he didnt do everything he could to stay healthy. 2. suzanne is a hipocrite, for denouncing cancer treatments in which saved her own life

  5. 5

Insensitive, Yes. Incorrect, Not necessarily. And Whoopie, God love ya, you should not have started a a dialog against what she said, which is controversial, but all the same, possibly right. I have seen some very controversial comments coming from your show over the years Whoopie, many times against the current thinking of the masses. Simply: Suzanne was insensitive, but has a right to her own opinion, as do you and I.

SHE IS VERY SINCERE. I TOTALLY BELIEVE HER. THIS SHOULD NOT BE DRAGGED OUT ANY LONGER.

  7. 7

wgas. the poor man has passed. let it go and may he rest in peace.

As a cancer survivor, I can tell you that when you fight a cancer, you ask yourself every day if your method of fighting is "the right one". Until we find official cures, please respect's peoples decisions in fighting and the doubts that come with them.

  9. 9

Leave her alone. I believe her. She is a good soul

and who doesn't love the thigh master :)

  10. 10

Took her this long to apologize? Maybe she needs to think about she says or better yet who she talks to before putting her foot in her mouth. Its her opinion I get it but you can't trust anybody you talk to. There are many unanswered questions about Cancer treatments but we do know smoking is a huge friend of it. I'm not a smoker myself but I have loved ones who do for years and its a huge concern. Patrick is gone and she's apologize now lets move on.

I hate to disagree. Susanne Somers is entitled to say whatever she wants. Her opinion is valid. Whether it got published for the whole world to read, that's a different issue.

    Clearly she had no malice.

  12. 12

sure he did things to improve/help is fight.
sadly quiting smoking was not one of them.
    rip ps.

  13. 13

No biggy. At least she said sorry. She meant it too. You could tell. RIP Patrick..

I really didn't agree with Suzanne's statement about Patrick. But if what she's saying is true, it's not her fault because the person "interviewing" her didn't identify himself as a reporter. It sounds like if she'd have known the person she was talking to was a reporter, she would have kept her controversial comments to herself.

  15. 15

The reporter is the ASS. I will never have chemo if I get cancer. I have seen it kill too many of my friend. It is painful and they still die.

  16. 16

She did say "- I hate to be controversial, but I have to speak out." If the quote is incorrect that's one thing, but it sounds like a public statement. Just saying. Who cares really.

  17. 17

Suzanne was not insensitive. This is:
Patrick Swayze was a dork for using TOBACCO during the last MANY months that he could have tried to fight back for his health. Tobacco is a pathetic product.

  18. 18

Also, that fat cow oprah is just trying to rake in more money by being an attention whore.
Somers can say whatever she damn well wants.

Lay off on Suzanne… she is entitled to her opinions and shouldn't be attacked for saying so.
    RIP Patrick

  20. 20

why? cause big brother's watching? soon the liberals will make it against the law to think your own opinion.

  21. 21

    horse crap!
    everyone is allowed their opinion.
i'm sure plenty of people (u included, pretzels) have said even MORE off-color, opinionated comments at the passing of m.j. (amongst friends, of course).
suzanne seems like a very sensitive and loving person (of what i saw of her on 'the d-list' and i don't think she meant any harm.
she's on that whole holistic-health trip and wants to save everyone. my mom's the same way.
it's just crappy that a snake reporter took her comments to press without her consent.

  22. 22

LOL! Patrick did everything to stay healthy! LOL! He was a chain smoker, and he had a serious alcohol problem until 10 years ago. Pancreas no like dat shit.

Whoopi Goldberg, yep, role model for holistic living!
