MTV Still Wants To Air DJ AM Intervention Series

Before his sudden and tragic death, DJ AM worked on a drug-intervention show with MTV called Gone Too Far. The production team was able to capture enough footage for the making of eight episodes and the network intends to show them.

At the moment, the production heads are in talks with DJ AM's family about how and when to show the episodes. It is suggested that because the show follows DJ AM, born Adam Goldstein, in the role of a "sober and experienced tough-love guide for troubled addicts" and the strong implications that his own death resulted from drug abuse, that the show would come off as " hypocritical or exploitative."

On the other hand, the show could send a strong anti-drug message by showcasing the strong, focused man DJ AM was without the drugs.

In a way, we think it would be nice tribute to him as he obviously had a stance to help others overcome their addictions.

Will U watch his reality show?

      Next fatboy!!!!!!!! going to Starbucks!!!!!!!!

    2. 2

i love how you call lily allen a hopicrite and then assault her…. yet you praise dj am, who preached against drugs yet died from an o.d.

    3. 3

fuck you mtv! i used to love you! but now, even thought you said you're quitting all the reality-show-shit, you're still at it. milking stories like this for money, you're going too far. i don't even know you any more!!! i'm leaving you *sob*

    4. 4

Hell no, that's creepy. Let him rest in peace.

    5. 5

Yes, I think it's an awesome idea!!

    6. 6

Wow, a relatively unknown DJ. Famous only for banging Nichole Ritchie, who herself is only famous for being Paris Hilton's friend. Yeah, that show will sell.

    7. 7

No, I doubt I will watch. I do not need instruction on how to be an unsuccessful addict.
      =
IF they were to make it a show about how to be a DJ, I might watch…but an addict DJ would not have been my choice of instructor.

    8. 8

I don't think its appropriate or the right time. On the other hand, I think MTV is trying to get money/ratings so of course they're going to do whatever it takes to convince his family.

    9. 9

I think they should air it. I think that he would have wanted that. He wanted to help people battle addiction, what better way than to personalize what can happen if you abuse drugs.

    10. 10

Why? So I can view his "do as I say but not as I do"? No thanks……….

    11. 11

I will most absolutely watch it!
For one, this program seems like it will be head and shoulders above all of the other crap that MTV now airs.
Secondly DJ AM was a great talent with a lot to give both to his fans, as well as to the general public. If showing this documentary saves one person from their addiction then it will have done it's job.

    12. 12

Yes I will be watching. Once an addict - always an addict. I have met people in the 12 step program who have been clean and sober for 20+ years and relapse. I think airing these episodes will let people know that it is one day at a time forever! I am almost 3 yrs clean and I still take one day at a time.

    13. 13

      I will watch the show.

no one said anyone over at mtv was intelligent.

    15. 15

I work at a treatment facility where two of the shows teens were sent. Both got a lot out of our program and are going strong in their sobriety. One is even becoming a staff member. I think they deserve to have the show run because it is about them and their strength! DJ AM's death and influence was a small part of the show. He got them into treatment but the show should be about their struggle with addiction and their sobriety! MTV should run it!

    16. 16

Considering the publicity he unfortunately got by his death, anything to help people understand addiction would be good.

    17. 17

I think in his honor, they should air his show. Yes AM died from an overdose but lets not over look the fact that he remained DRUG FREE & SOBER for 11 years. Most people can't even remain on a DIET for longer than 3 months and being fat can kill you too! Most of AM's life outside the club scene was dedicated to his sobriety and to helping others. I think they should air it and at the end interview those who knew AM and talk about the reality of ONE DAY AT A TIME, how one bad day could be an addicts last day.

    18. 18

Absolutely, he was sober when he filmed the show. I think it will show addicts that even when you intellectually understand your addiction and can teach sober behavior to others, you're still not out of the water. Staying sober will remain a day to day fight for the rest of your life, especially if you ever need to take certain types of prescription drugs. RIP DJ AM. We love you!!

    19. 19

I would watch. I think it would be a strong testament to how powerful addiction can be. One minute you can be on the road to recovery, sober and helping others…and then some event in your life brings drugs back into your life and you're back at square one. I think it was something DJ AM was passionate about and his story is such a common one (someone gets sober, relapses and ends up overdosing) I think it would be worth while.

    20. 20

if dj am was doing this to help people.. wouldn't you want his legacy to live on? this is something he was willing to do. mtv just didn't get random clips of him on the streets to document this. i will watch it.

      Re: izzard

That's one of the most down to earth and real things I've heard in a looong time. Congratulations and I wish you the best. :)

    22. 22

They should play it. I work where a lot of it was filmed and I work directly with some of the kids he helped. Showing that not everyone is invincible and how hard addiction is to overcome is not hypocritical. He made this show because he wanted to help and I think even in his death he would want the kids he became such a mentor to to know that it is a lifelong battle and not everyone makes it through.

    23. 23

I think it's a fantastic thing to show how strong opiate and or drug addiction in general is. When I was going through my own opiate addiction, it was shocking to me how little people that have never had experience with it knew or understood about this devasting sickness. Airing this program will allow people to see how strong this addiction is.

    24. 24

I would love to see it!!!

    25. 25

Not surprised. MTV is a bunch of money-grubbing desperate scumbags who brought he scourge of reality TV upon the world. Assholes! This is why nobody over age 25 watches that damn channel anymore.

    26. 26

Yes…I feel so sorry for him. You could tell he wanted to help others. He just lost a fight that was much stronger than he was. Rest in Peace Adam Goldstein. I just don't know why some people are so heartless.

    27. 27

MTV is desperate. I quit watching them back in the late 1980s.

    28. 28

I think they should go for it!!! boo to the idiots that think stuff like this gets old. Its real life people.

    29. 29

it would not be hypocritical, it would show that, even with years and years clean, someone with as much going for him as dj am did can still fall prey to relapse. Even with years and years clean, the best odds of someone staying clean without relapsing are only 50/50. it could also highlight the recovery process, of which relapse is almost always a part. maybe people would understand that relapse is not a failure of willpower, but is part of the recovery process… unfortunately, am did not get to go to the next phase, which is getting clean again. 8-(

Honestly - anyone who has anything bad to say can go screw themselves. Unless you were personally involved with Adam, or his show, then keep your opinions to yourself. He meant well and he actually saved the life of someone very close to me. If it were not for Adam, his producers, writers, and the entire crew of the show, my loved one would not be alive and sober today. I think that the world needs to see what Adam did and stop judging him!

    31. 31

They kill him and now want to profit from it? He said the show made him buy a crack pipe and he realised as he held it that it wasn't a good idea for an addict to be buying and holding a pipe.

    32. 32

Re: izzard – Congrats on your 3 yrs and going strong!
I agree. As someone who has been around addiction, and have lost friends and family members due to drugs- I think it is important to show that people (young and old) have to live and struggle with addiction daily, it doesn't just stop with once you enter rehab.
I would watch. And hope that it helps people doing drugs realize and confront their addictions and get help for themselves, and also help people that aren't addicts, get a better understanding of what people are going through - and lend any kind of support they can.

    33. 33

ITS BITTER SWEET.. I WOULD DEFINITELY WATCH IT.. THATS REALITY.. THAT WAS HIS DEMISE UNFORTUNATELY BUT HE WAS SO PASSIONATE ABOUT HELPING OTHERS OVERCOME THEIR ADDICTIONS.. AS LONG AS THE FAMILY IS OK WITH IT.. SHOW IT MTV!!!

    34. 34

Re: Spindoc – First off, he's not "relatively unknown". He's been around a lot longer than the thing with Ritchie and he kept it up without her after they broke up. You are a complete idiot and moron if you think it wouldn't garner any ratings. And an ass for being so disrepectful.

    35. 35

I think most of you people are missing the point with this series. It was very important to DJ to try and help as many as he could because he knew the dangers of being an addict. That he wasn't able to continue fighting his demons only shows how powerful addiction is. He didn't want to be one. No one does. I'm not sure how I feel about airing the show so soon, but if they do it will be to honor him and remind people that he wasn't able to stay strong. If he hadn't had that plane accident, he may still be with us. But what happened happened. At least he really tried to help others and do some good rather than most celebs out there. I respect DJ AM's mission and am devastated at what happened to him. He was a shining light for others, it's only a shame he didn't have one looking out for him. I don;t think MTV is going only for ratins and drama. I think they know how much he was invested in this project and it's their way of memorializing him as well as geting the message louder than anyone else can. Drug addiction is horrible and a constant fight and battle. Once you give up once, it's only to easy to give up again. And again. RIP DJAM. You are mush loved all over and will be greatly missed.

Sobriety is 24/7/365/eternal job. The struggle is never over as DJ AM's death so sadly demonstrates. I think the airing could save lives.

Put this up front, Perez. (Lookin' slim)

    37. 37

Re: December24 – Thank you. Well said and I agree 1000%.

    38. 38

Yes, of course I will watch it!

    39. 39

      testicle

    40. 40

If MTV airs this, then VH1 should air "I love money 3"

    41. 41

This series should be canned and this trumped up junkie should not be put up on a pedestal any more.

    42. 42

      Re: MyOpinionOnly

I think the whole premise of this show was totally sick.

Interventions as entertainment??? Cornering people with television cameras to confront them about their drug addicitions??????? What has this world come to when something like this can be considered 'entertainment'…

To think that DJ AM as a former addict (well, I guess that part was a lie hey?) was prepared to make money of other addicts this way is disgusting. Don't act like he was doing some sort of community service here - he was getting paid to host a TV show.

    43. 43

Re: italianvenus – Thank you - its something I struggle with everyday but if putting my story out there - even if it was on the Montel show - then I am fine with it. Adam would have absolutely wanted this aired.

    44. 44

I think that it is extremely important that this show airs. I think it is an excellent example that no matter how long you've been a recovering addict each day has it's struggles and why one should never start in the first place. By airing it after AM's death it shows the naked truth and harsh reality of drugs. AM's death has had a huge personal impact on me and I'm betting by airing his show, I won't be the only one.

    45. 45

That just goes to show how MTV is hypocritical. At least when that dude, that was on that VH1 show, killed his wife and committed suicide, VH1 pulled that show off of the air and the internet after 3 or 4 episodes. I wouldn't watch it just because of that reason. Too many hypocrites in the industry! I don't see where it would be a tribute at all!

    46. 46

Adam was not only a talented DJ but an amazing person. He changed so many lives when he was here and with this tv show can continue to help addicts in need of direction when he is gone. I will deffinitly watch the show, although it is in mtv's best interests and they may not be putting the show on for all the right reasons, a lot of good can come of it.

I will watch every single one. So sad that his 'seven pounds' of flesh for feeling inadequate and unworthy of life after the crash, coupled with the footage he gathered for the show, damaged him and flared the addiction as a last way of making things right. I do believe it was suicide and am deeply hurting for him and his family. I think this show will be powerful in all the right ways.

    48. 48

I'd watch it. The disease of addiction is cunning, baffling, and powerful.
