Director/Pedophile Roman Polanski Arrested!
Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Director Roman Polanski was arrested and detained in Switzerland this weekend due to his 1978 conviction for having sex with a 13-year-old girl in California.
For over 30 years, Polanski has managed to dodge police enforcement, but on Saturday, Roman's luck finally ran out.
Polanski was due to receive an honorary award at the Zurich Film Festival, but U.S. authorities made an arrest request to the Swiss Justice Ministry and he was immediately taken into custody upon his arrival in Switzerland.
The French-born director pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with then 13-year-old Samantha Geimer in 1978, but after an initial 42-day evaluation, Polanski fled from the U.S. and a warrant for his arrest was immediately issued.
Roman will remain in Switzerland until the extradition process is complete, which could keep Polanski in Switzerland for up to 60 days.

1.) Polanski pleaded guilty to engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. How can you claim you never had sex with the girl, but then plead guilty of having sex with her? He has never denied having sex with her, but he claims it was consentual.
2.) Go to the Smoking Gun website and read Ms. Geimer's deposition. She most certainly claimed that he drugged and sodomized her.
3.) Most rape victims do not want to bring charges against their rapists. That is why so few rapes get reported or procecuted. This means nothing.
4.) Yes, the judge was shady, but that doesn't mean Polanski isn't guilty and doesn't deserve to do time. His lawyer can file an appeal for his guilty plea to be set aside and have a new trial. There is enough evidence including testamony from the prosecutor to get Polanski a new trial.
The bottom line is Polanski is guilty of having sex with a minor. That is not in dispute. Polanski went on to have sex with another minor within months of this incident. The question is whether it was actual rape or statutory rape. Either way, Polanski deserves to do time and I think his villa in France with his former model wife (who was in her late teens when they stated to date) and children is really doing time.

The DA didn't want a harsher crime because Ms. Geimer and her attorney wanted to broker a deal because she couldn't handle the pressures of a trial and the judge wanted to go back on the brokered deal. The prosecutor probably would have gone for the max if Ms. Geimer so wished.

It seems like the mother's eyes must have started spinning around like a slot machine and landed on two big, flashing dollar signs. She knew that either her daughter would be on her way to a modelling/acting career in the tradition of Brooke Shields, OR Polanski would do something inappropriate (or even just something that could be construed as inappropriate), and she would have the basis for a civil suit against Polanski, Nicholson, and any other rich celebrity who was involved in even the most peripheral way.

Polanski is proof that pedophilia can be a one-off affair or at least stopped in practice. The importance of this is that people think pedophiles are people who can't control their crimes, when ultimately the only cure for pedophiles is that they have to stop, whatever is their desires. Polanski doesn't need that lesson, because prison is not going to teach him to stop doing what he already stopped doing. But, if he's rich, a good sum of money to the victim would be fair. She could spare some for her own children. I think he should give up all his copyrights of one of his film to the victim and that'd be a fine settlement. You can't repair a crime, or undo things. DUH!!! The Swiss just signed a treaty with the US to turn over Secret Bank accounts. In the past they would NEVER do this. Part of that agreement with the Dept of Justice was to give amnesty (30 days i think) to US citizens who are hiding money there. Polanski is such a dumb-mutt that he never did the research on the agreement with the DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE! DUH!!! Part of that was to enforce certain covenants of extradition treaties. After all how do you think the US government was able to get anything out of the SWISS? Their banking system was based on anonymity–that was its strength! There are better interest rates around. In the documentary Roman Polanski Wanted and Desired there is a ton of info on this case. It doesn't make it any better that a man his age slept with a girl so young, but it did appear to be consentual. Plus the girl was drinking and taking drugs, and not for the first time. And her mother allowed her to go to a "photo shoot" with him. It also states that he didn't know how old she was. I know it doesn't make what happend right, but its not as cut and dry as it seems.

People writing on here seem to forget that this, essentially, is a case of child abuse and people are all too ready to dismiss it because the abuser is famous or maybe because the issue has never affected them or any of their friends or family.
