Bush Denies J.K. Rowling Due To Witchcraft!

Former speechwriter for President George W. Bush, Matt Latimer, is airing some dirty evangelical Christian laundry regarding the previous administration.
In his new book, Speechless: Tales of a White House Survivor, Latimer discusses withholding the politicized Presidential Medal of Freedom to a very deserving candidate - author of Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling.
"This was the same sort of narrow thinking that led people in the White House to actually object to giving the author J.K. Rowling a presidential medal because the Harry Potter books encouraged witchcraft," he writes.
WTF?!
Although George W. and the first lady, Laura were vocal about their love of the boy wizard, especially since it encouraged reading.
Could that mean the Bush administration was making decisions based on their more conservative, fundamentalist supporters?!

Wow, for what seems like the millionth time, the books are ABOUT witchcraft, they don't ENCOURAGE witchcraft. There is no such THING as witchcraft, that's why they call it fiction. The wizardy thingy is probably the truth. When my kid taught school in TN, HP books were *banned* due to the witchcraft element. But then, Hallowe'en is a pagan holiday which originally had to do with murder…no fuss about that, right? I found the HP books spectacular, especially the early ones.
I do believe Harry Potter gives children an interest in learning witchcract.
Bullshit - the Presidential Medal recognizes those individuals whom have made an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors. A British Author who got rich off a tween book and several movies does not qualify. The last time a medal was awarded for literature was 1985 and it was given to a scientist who wrote about the proliferation of nuclear arms. The novelists who are on the list are John Steinbeck, Tennessee Williams and Harper Lee, whose works are classics. A.K. Rowling is not in their class with her books.
It's one thing to hate someone for who they are - It's quite another to make up shit to embaress people you hate.
Why should JK receive such an award anyway? I mean seriously. Bush and his wife BOTH had stated they liked the books and saw nothing wrong with any of it…so what's your point? Just wanting to bash Bush today because you have nothing else to talk about I guess.

He wasn't a nobody, but his access to the President was episodic; he was only present for speechwriting meetings. In fact, much of the then White House senior staff doesn't even remember who Latimer is. Should Rowling have gotten the medal? Probably. But Bush was pretty well known to follow when led by his advisors. Do I think the Bush Administration is the only administration to politicize things? No. That would make me an idiot.

2° the book DOES encourage witchcraft in some way or another. And if you're a christian (a REAL one, not like you, PERVez) and your 10,11 or 12 yo. child is reading or wants to read Harry Potter, then you should tell your child that witchcraft is a sin, that that book encourages this sin, etc. Tell him/her to read christian novels like e.g. "Lord of the Rings". However, I think that Perez’s question was out of hand for the Miss USA pageant. Carrie Prejean had, and still has, the right to state how she felt about the issue, whether or not Perez or you or anyone else agrees with her. She very clearly said that she thinks it’s great that Americans can choose one or the other. In other words, America should vote on the issure, which is how it should be: Democracy at it’s finest. Could she have answered the question in a safe, neutral manner? Most definitely. Would she have had a better chance at winning, if not had won, Miss USA had she done that? Probably. Again, I don’t agree with her views on same-sex marriage, but I most definitely don’t condemn her for speaking her opinion.
