Both Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey have arrived in Copenhagen on Wednesday to support the Chicago bid team for the 2016 Olympics!
The First Lady says:
"So happy to be here and I'm so excited. We have a lot of work to do. We're not taking anything for granted. I'm going to talk to some voters. Chicago is a wonderful host city, great people, great facilities. It knows about the sports and the hospitality is like no other and a city that works really well."
The International Olympic Committee will be making their decision in about two days.

There are a lot of rightwing wacko losers who are complaining that the Obamas are trying to bring the Olympics to Chicago. I say they are unpatriotic and basically trogs.

I recently visited Chicago and the city was beautiful, amazing…however, the hospitality was not. Did not find the ppl there friendly…rude really. For ex. a taxi driver screamed for me to get out of the car, a waitress got mad when I asked for another drink without the bug in it, another waitress gave me my check when I was not ready to leave and had planned to order more drinks. A hotel worker complained in front of me when he was asked to help bring baggage to my car…he wanted to go to lunch. The nightlife was not good at all either.
It would help to creat jobs and lord knows you need jobs.

I guess it would be a great opportunity for the U.S…. if they still exist by 2016, that is. Well, bring 'em to Chicago, I think it's a good idea. Except that I still really, really, really wouldn't give two shits about the Olympic Games. Just the thought of being flooded with that shit on TV for months on end is annoying, even more so than football. But then again, it would probably be the same if they were anywhere else in the world.
RE sharre: First of all the taxi driver is probably not from Chicago and has been in the city for a few months. Taxi drivers barely make enough to stay above the poverty level so no surprise he was rude. And as far as the nightlife most tourists stay right downtown and don't know where to go, all the hot spots are in Wicker Park, Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Bucktown etc. Chicago is probably the greatest and most beautiful big city in the US.

i live in chicago and i could go either way on this issue. i see it as a negative because mayor daley took yet another opportunity to lie to the taxpayers about the costs vs. the revenue, but he's an ass, so i don't believe anything he ever says, on principle. it would be good because it would create jobs and give the city more publicity. as for the person complaining about our city, i have to wonder from your negative commentary just how nice you are to deal with in the first place. having never met you, but having met many fabulous waiters, cab drivers, bell hops, concierge's, etc who are super sweet and helpful, i'm guessing that maybe the problem is you? chicago has fantastic night life, you just clearly didn't get to experience it and didn't know where to go. we are a world class city, period. diverse culture, high end shopping, fabulous restaurants - you name it, you can find it in chicago. the cta and metra will get you anywhere you want to go. why shouldn't we get the games? why shouldn't america be in the spotlight? we deserve it as much as anyone else.
Uhm, a huge majority of people in Chicago don't want the Olympics! It will cause taxes to raise and the city will be in mayjah debt for a long time.

I live in Chicago and the majority of the people I know are backing the bid. What I don't get is hosting the Olympics would bring Tourism Revenue, Constuction Money, Jobs and not to mention we would finally get a world class public transportation system. The whole country could benefit from this. Besides does anyone remember what the Olympics represent? World unity is a positive thing.
I can think of no better city to hold an Olympics than the great city of Chicago. It's easy to pick out flaws, but no city has World class venues, accessible transportation, parks, museums along the lakefront-all right next to where the Olympics will be held. And what are you smoking Sharre? The people of Chicago are real, down to earth and FRIENDLY. It's amusing that the right wing FAKE news channel folks are criticizing the President for trying to bring jobs to the Midwest. It's about time! Re: my comments. I am a teacher and don't make much money either, but I am not rude to ppl. The taxi driver had just stopped and I was making sure I had everything before I got out and he screamed at me. As for the waitress, I kindly asked for another drink after I noticed a BUG was in mine and she was so mean about it…slamming the cup down and telling me that the bugs were normal. As far as the nightlife…we made sure we explored Lincoln Park (which was run-down) and a few bars in an area downtown. I was very disappointed. I thought I would meet nice, beautiful ppl, but it was far from it. The city was no doubt gorgeous, but I am just saying the hospitality was not and that is something they need to work on before hosting the Olympics. That was my first visit to Chicago and I do want to return.

Oh My gosh….Yes Chicago is a big city and has it's fair share of crime but I would not go as far as calling it evil. I live in Chicago and it is a great city. We have everything here. The only concern for myself about the Olympics being here is that I am a tax payer and pay alot of taxes. Mayor Daley is a big stinky ass and this will sink us. Everyone is struggling to make it in this economy, I am in fear that this will really sink me and my family even more. For those who never expereinced the night life in Chicago and let alone just the wonderful resturants. Don't judge us. There are alot of good and bad people everywhere. There is alot of crime EVERYWHERE.

I am actually danish and here in Denmark at the moment and I think it's so awesome that my country was chosen to host this event. It's really an honor to have The First Lady and Oprah Winfrey here. We rarely get such high profile visits unless it's for political reasons.

Olympics end up costing a city money in the long run, plus the aftermath is astounding, but not in a good way. Empty buildings are left for bums to take over for starters. I too am from Chicago and I agree with Ju Ju. Daley lied about the cost and what we are paying… So I am torn too. I do not want the Olympics here but I do because of the focus on America and Chicago. A great city! The jobs created would not be long term, which would be sad.

Obama is pushing for the olympics in Chicago because he owes Valerie Jarrett a political favor. Jarrett is a slumlord who let her properties like Grove Parc Plaza get so bad that it now may be condemned. WHY? Because she has been pushing for the Olympics in Chicago for a while and is going to demolish her properties that she purposely let get so unlivable so she can get more $$ and have the Olympic village (which as already been promised to her) on her property. What did she do with the $$$ she was suppose to use to improve these unlivable properties and will she pocket this money too? One hand washes the other. Corruption and greed reigns in our government!
