Leno Could Have Trouble Booking Guests From Rival Networks
Filed under: TV News > Tom Cruise > Cameron Diaz > Drew Barrymore > Jay Leno
Uh, oh!
CBS and ABC are discouraging their talent from appearing on Jay Leno's prime time talk and comedy show that airs on NBC, which is now competition for their dramas airing at the same time.
That didn't stop Julia Louis-Dreyfus, star of The New Adventures of Old Christine on CBS, from going on the show, although she admitted to facing some pressure from CBS. But because she and Leno are longtime friends, she went through with the booking.
Other celebs may not be so bold as much of Hollywood isn't digging on Jay's new show because it essentially eliminated many jobs for cast and crew on would-be prime time dramas during the week.
John Wells, once the executive producer of former NBC shows ER and The West Wing, and now the president of the Writers Guild of America West says:
"We lost five hours' worth of time periods that have been known throughout the history of the network for putting some really terrific shows on. I wish NBC and Jay Leno well; personally, he's a very nice guy, but I hope he falls flat on his face and we get five dramas back."
We kinda see his point.
Leno's ratings are pretty steady, though, with A-Listers frequently appearing on the show already, including Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Robin Williams to name a few.
NBC is said to be satisfied with the numbers since they're comparable to the ratings the dramas in that slot once held. NBC also added:
"The Jay Leno Showhas an open-door policy. We are always interested in having talent appear on the show regardless of studio affiliation."
Are U watching Jay's show or would you prefer tuning in to some NBC prime time dramz?

To be honest I'd prefer the drama shows. Make his show a daytime show or something!
How the hell have you NOT discussed the Letterman scandal yet? Jesus, get with it. CNN.com has it as their top story.
JAYS SHOW SUCKS END OF STORY. HE SHOULD HAVE NEVER LEFT THE TONIGHT SHOW.
I don't watch the Jay Leno show at 10pm. I pay $$$ for many channels on cable and I want scripted shows with actors.
*
NBC may be happy with the numbers, but ultimately the entire industry loses. This is taking away jobs not only from writers and actors, but also a whole gamut of hard-working people behind the scenes.
*
I'm just one viewer, and from Canada, but maybe more viewers are also doing this, hopefully. TV is already too full with BS reality shows, talk shows, and all types of shows that require minimal scripting and editing.

I never really liked him on the Tonight show but his new 1 is a disaster. ITS UNWATCHABLE
this is ridiculous. in the last few years, NBC was having more trouble than other networks with numbers. moving leno to 10pm was a great idea, since he appeals to a wide demographic, but some of that demographic would not/could not stay awake until 11:35 in the past to watch him. ER and Law and Order are the only NBC shows that i can even recall being worth watching that were on at 10 pm, and ER isn't even on anymore!
i really like the show, i would watch it a lot more if i didn't have so many attention deficit guy friends coming over flipping through the channels constantly.
I love jay and I often learn about stars upcoming projects on his show. fuck you abc.
It is a breath of fresh air to see this show. I am so SICK of drama, it is depressing, sad and I am glad it is gone……..
its no surprise dave has been cheating on his current wife and gf of 23 years, he cheated on his previous wife to be with this new twit. oh well never liked david letterman, hes kinda boring go jay, die letterman.
here comes the crimson chin…. great
Jay is lame and boring and his schtick on stupid people is not watchable.
I'll watch the food network over him.
None of the above!
Either CW or HBO, with a little Discovery thrown in! Love Bear and Mike! Hot!
I LOVE having a fun night of television again with The Office, Parks and Rec, 30 Rock, Community and Jay Leno to finish. My family watches television that one evening. We watch one other show—New Adventure of Old Christine.
I like comedies–especially with so much bad news these days. We all need a little.
I'm very tired of reality. Cable is over-rated. It's worthless without the premium channels but is it really worth $1200 a year to watch 'Weeds"? I wait for the DVD's.
One GOOD thing about not having cable is that I've never seen "Jon and Kate Plus 8" and "Glenn Beck". Aside from the savings, there are some big advantages.
I love Jay personally, but I think it's FUCKED that NBC put hundreds of people out of work to save millions of dollars and not lose one cent of advertising dollars. We should all band together and stop watching the show. Oh wait, it's a good show? Nevermind…
I only watch when there is a guest I'm interested in seeing. I usually prefer the film actors anyway because I don't watch many shows. Unless it's a big name TV actor (like Julia Louise Dreyfus) I'm generally not interested. I do see the point about losing all that primetime space, though. Kinda sucks.
Actors don't give a shit about crew jobs in Hollywood. If they did, they wouldn't work in Toronto, Detroit, New Mexico, Louisiana, or any other area stealing jobs from us.
Blah. Go away Leno
I watch it whenever something better isn't on. I get sick of murder, hospitals and violence–with nothing different to choose from! I just wish Conan or Dave were on at the same time now. Networks have nothing to fear if they give folks a decent variety of what viewers actually want
oh Boo Hoo. The writers need to get real jobs. We lost 5 hours, what a bunch of babies. Maybe they should sign up to serve their country and stop crying like bitches. Or better yet, i'll say it again, get a real fucking job!
Ewww! What's that stuff in his nostrils?
this show is nothing new- jay behind desk or sittin at a chair - big deal
its tedious - lackluster and boring…….can't wait til its over
for now i am opting for a root canal
I don't know why they're taking it out on Leno. Ultimately it was NBC's decision to ax the time slot. And didn't NBC used to put Dateline on at 10pm?? Not a scripted drama. NBC has dug themselves a deep hole financially, they simply can't afford to do scripted shows. They're barely staying afloat now.
Never watched the depressing scripted shows. I do watch Leno at 9 and Dave at 10:30. Noticed Dave giving Jay an awful lot of publicity, seriously! Mentions him being on at 10 (est), practically every night, and I'm sure he's smart enough to know it's more than likely helping Jays ratings. I like both of them, can't understand why anyone wouldn't. Jays show is more of a variety show, than reality. Can't stand reality shows but, I could sure take more variety entertainment! Prime time varieties use to be great, and they're less expensive, which means less commercial time, I hope.
This is so stupid an petty on the television studios. Seriously are they telling all their actors that they will fire them if they appear or something? Sounds like they can't handle dealing with competition at all. Childish in the long run.
Jay is the man but his show is killing NBC.New shows like Trauma and Mercy would do much better @10pm.Law and Order:SVU is getting killed by Criminal Minds on Wednesdays. And Leno isn't even a good lead-in for Conan. He's doing more harm than good.
Im froom sweden but we get his new show here too and i looove it Leno´s the best!
Re: brofoski – Actors are just another link in the chain though they are the highest paid link. It is the Exec. producers who are make location decisions. It should be noted that many actors are producers so they are partaking in these decisions. What I want to know is who the fuck said TV filming must be done in Hollywood/California. NYC has a thriving TV/Film production environment and frankly any other city/state that makes itself economically and artistically viable should be considered, as long as decent labor laws are adhered to. Boo Hoo poor Hollywood.
I liked him on the Tonight Show, but his new format is pretty lame, not sure why, but the ratings agree with me
maybe he needs a desk
Re: Nostradamus – i totally wish he had his desk back too!!! thought i was the only one who was thinking that lol
anyways, i think this situation is stupid…i respect julia louis-dreyfus for going on the show! hopefully this doesn't turn out to be a huge problem for jay in the future..or if it does, hopefully actors from the big screen are enough
HIS SHOW IS HORRIBLE. IT IS TIRED, OLD, NOT FUNNY, SELF SERVING, RIDICULOUS HIGH SCHOOL HUMOR.
AND I WOULD NOT CALL HIS GUESTS A-LIST SO FAR. UNLESS BY A YOU MEAN ASS.
THE FACT THAT HE COMPROMISED ALL DIGNITY BY HAVING KANYE ON WITH HIS FAKE CRYING EPISODE WAS ENOUGH FOR ME.
IF ANYONE IS A SELL-OUT PHONY NO TALENT IT IS LENO!
Re: LizardKinG – He didn't want to leave NBC said it was time for him to go! I love Jay Leno and I hope he has another hit show!
i am really disappointed that in order to make room for this "new" show, which i find the same as his late night one, nbc has moved law and order to fridays and svu to an earlier time slot. they also let medium go to cbs! which is a great show with unbelievable writing. all i can say is i used to be tuned in to nbc during that time slot, now i no longer am.
Yeah I'd prefer the dramas. Jay Leno wasn't funny to begin with, he definitely doesn't deserve a prime time spot 5 times a week.
Lets face… a year from now, NBC will announce that CONAN has been cancelled and Jay will return to the TONIGHT SHOW
Re: MP – jay didnt want to leave the tonight show, i think perez had an article awhile back about it
