Santa Angelina Gives Back

Angelina Jolie traveled to Syria as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency with Brad Pitt to raise awareness of the Iraqi refugees residing there.
They visited two refugee families in one of the poorest suburbs of capital city Damascus as well as meeting with President Bashar al-Assad and his wife Asma. Angie says:
"Most Iraqi refugees cannot return to Iraq in view of the severe trauma they experienced there, the uncertainty linked to the coming Iraqi elections, the security issues and the lack of basic services. They will, therefore, be in need of continued support from the international community."
Syria is making great strides in making sure health care and education is available to the refugees.

I have read that in the past, these trips take a lot out of her. She gets upset to the point that she won't eat and she can't sleep. She has not been really that strong in rrecovering from the twins. I am very touched that Brad went with her. He is sharing this experience with her and understanding how it can touch her the way it has. She really goes to some very dangerous places. I salute her.
Oh and look, an "impromptu" photo shoot in a run down shack… must have been taken by the ki… nope, nevermind - they are without their kids again. Oh that's right, they have their own photographer with them… again… maybe instead of trying to take photo ops, they should be raising all those other kids they tried to "help" by sticking them in a fancy house with nannies.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees appointed Angelina to be it's representative to these places where there are refugees undergoing hardship. They did it BECAUSE she is famous, and she was willing to risk her life to bear witness and focus attention on their situation. The photographer is supposed to be taking pictures. Assholes. That”s the point. There's a whole lot she does where they aren't taking pictures, too. I'm glad there are people around like Brad, Angie, Cloooney, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn, Charlize Theron, Drew Barrymore, and dozens of others who really sincerely are working to make this a better world. What have you negative asswipes done lately? I just did some volunteer work for Breast Cancer Awareness. Everybody should be doing something instead of sitting at a computer throwing criticism around.

Wait the UNHRC is funded by the UN which is funded by a multitude of countries not just the US and as of May 2009 most of the member countries are behind on their payments most noticeably of which is the US who still owes $857M to the UN. Maybe it's because of everyones economic issues and inability to fund the UN that the UN has cut the budget of the UNHCR and it falls to people like Brad and Angelina and the other slew of celebrities that have recently taken up various causes connected with UNHCR, to do all these "photo ops" to build interest and hopefully gain financial support for the people that need it. What you're not considering is that if you were to give even $50 to the UNHCR it helps not just one cause but all of the causes that UNHCR supports. Some of which are in the US as well for those of you who think no one ever does anything for the people here.

How is this helping anything apart from her image? She hops on a private jet, photographer and makeup artist in tow, is driven in an air-conditioned SUV to a pre-chosen and scouted site, has her picture taken with a few locals, gives a little lecture to the press, and then the story becomes all about her and what a saint she is. And a core group of worshipers fall for it every time. They don't even know they're watching a movie scripted and produced by the stars.
