The Governator Thinks Polanski Should Not Be Pardoned

As we mentioned earlier, director Roman Polanski was finally arrested and detained in Switzerland this past weekend due to his 1978 conviction for having sex with a 13-year-old girl in California.
The French-born director pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with then 13-year-old Samantha Geimer, but later fled from the U.S. and a warrant for his arrest was immediately issued.
And the decision to take to trial this "great" director has many people at odds - with some thinking the case should be dismissed and others wanting him to pay.
We say, he should pay! And, thankfully, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger agrees.
The governor admitted that he admires Polanski's work, he is an Oscar-winning director after all, but added that he wouldn't treat this "situation any differently than everyone else."
Schwarzenegger adds:
"It doesn't matter if you are a big-time movie actor or a big-time movie director or producer. I think that he is a very respected person, and I am a big admirer of his work.
But nevertheless, I think he should be treated like everyone else. One should look into all of the allegations, not only his allegations but the allegations about his case. Was there something done wrong? You know, was injustice done in the case?"
As for Polanski's attorneys, they claim they'll fight the extradition to California.

Yeah and the fact that he fled doe not help, it indicates that he knows what he did is wrong and he should go to jail for a long time for running !! this is so outrageous !!

These celebs supporting Polanski are just shocked that any celeb should be held responsible for ANYTHING they do. How many times have celebs walked off a photo shoot when it was through and stolen clothes and jewlery? How many underaged celebs are ALWAYS let into night clubs and served even though the bouncers card anybody else who is under aged? How many times have celebsabused those under them, their assistants, people on films, how many times have celebs not showed up for work costing tens of thousands of dollars in lost time just because they were being pissy?

PS - I love how when the initial "shock" died down in this matter and people actually began investigating the facts, the "Free Polanski" movement seems to have quieted down and we're seeing fewer and fewer people defending this guy. There is hope for logic and reason!!!!!
So, let me get this straight:
The Governator thinks Polanski should be in prison….yet he depleted the budget for California Corrections Facilities and cut their work-force in half basically releasing 18% of prisoners because they just don't have the room or the WORK FORCE to handle them??! Yet, he should still go to prison, in which case he will probably be released way sooner than expected.
Maybe you should concentrate on giving my 4 friends their jobs back and their homes after 6-14 years of service as Corrections Officers rather than spouting some bandwagon bullshit.
If he cared about justice, then maybe he should put the money back into the Corrections Facilities!!

He has admitted to liking "young women." Because he fled, his victim was further damaged, having to relive a media circus and the details of her assault for her entire adult life. He is a PIG and the United States should show they don't give preferential treatment to artists.

I just feel bad for the woman. She said everytime this is brought up, it's emotionally devastating for her and her family. I couldn't imagine going through this for 20+ years!! Hopefully, this will be dealt with NOW so this woman can live the rest of her life in peace.

lakeacid, you are misinformed. Polanski signed a release stating he knew the model's age (13), which he had to do in order to photograph her. This evidence still exists. Moreover, he had to inform her parents of what was going on and was responsible for driving the child home, which is why he called her parents and lied to them, saying that the shoot would be going late and then proceeding to rape their child.
Moreover, Polanksi never "did his time." He was being held for psychological evaluation, and WHEN he was sentenced, the time he spent would be subtracted from that sentence, which would and should be a great deal longer. At no point was he sentenced, so he never served any time of that sentence. Moreover, 45 days is clearly not enough sentence for the crime he committed (please read previous comments).
Finally, even if the girl was 18 (which he knew she was not, and admitted it), he still raped her- because 1) he drugged her and 2) she was begging for him to stop and pleading to go home, and pulling her underwear back on as he pulled it off. Disregarding her age, both of those facts individually make this crime "rape" under the law (and any sense of right and wrong).
I am disgusted with his defenders.
i think it was clint eastwood that said something like: those who commit heinous crimes against children are the best argument for maintaing the death penalty. what roman did was not murder but was a heinous crime against a child and should not be swept under the rug.

He was sent to the 44 days of mental evaluation, which he took as a total joke. There are pictures of him drinking champagne and LAUGHING during that ridiculous joke of psuedo incarceration. The attorneys agreed they'd try to get this time as "time served," but it is ALWAYS up to the judge to decide actual punishment, and when it came down to deciding, Polaski panicked and fled. He never faced the music, he never let the courts and judicial system determine justice for the crime. He decided he was above the law, that his money and power and privilege could support a good life outside the US, so that he didn't have to have the consequences of his actions. Yes, he's a genius artist, and, yes, he as an absolutely tragic history in that he lost his wife and unborn child to Manson and his mother to a concentration camp. He still DRUGGED, RAPED, and SODOMIZED a CHILD screaming, pleading NO. Our society dictates criminals proven guilty (which he was) have consequences. Time for Roman to face the music and not give him kudos for running so long ago. Besides, the MAJORITY of criminals have some tragic background, and we don't let THEM off for that!
